I HATE how Capcom tends to ignore there past franchises (Megaman, Power Stone, Ghosts and Goblins, etc.) just to favor STREET FIGHTER (SF4, Super SF4, Ultra SF4)! Enough of it. It feels like the same game over and over and over again! They're doing the same thing they did with SF2! I'm not a big fan of SF, and it pains me to see that franchise getting the most attention. But anyway, I like MVC3 but yeah it lacked content.

I definitely agree, reviewers are often way too generous with things like over-reliance on DLC, broken gameplay elements and bugs. And I think that earlier games in the series should be compared to the entry that the review is dealing with. Like with Jagged Alliance: Back in Action for example, I like that game, I really do, it's a good game on it's own, but it's absolutely horrible for being a Jagged Alliance game, and that should take a part in the review of the game. Whenever someone tells me to play any of the newest games, I always play a couple of the earlier titles in the series for at least a few hours so that I have something to compare it to. Unfortunately, this means that most games I've played have been really disappointing.

The game was fun. I really like the intro scene in the beginning. I think people were looking for a lot. Much of which was already done in the past. Like a intersecting story line. No real endings. That why you beat a game other than bragging rights. Since there are over a 100 characters for capcom. 100s for marvel, downloadable content would have really did some justice. Their are 2 worlds that are fighting and uniting with each other.
The cool opening to the game is like someone building you your dream house but then stopping half way telling you it was going to be a bungalow. Devil May Cry's storyline is another example, it was fun but unfinished. Though unlike Marvel vs Capcom 3 the remake has pretty much made us abandon all hope on getting DMC 5.

Then buy UMvC3 which has a better roster, more balanced onlne mode, and more offline modes to do like heroes and heralds and even do Galactus mode where you can play as Galactus. Also when a game comes put your expections at zero until u start playing.

People defending this game Super Smash bros brawl had a fun little storyline with characters that have nothing to do with each other besides being Nintendo. Hell some like Snake and Sonic are not even Nintendo but they pull it off. Joe please stop giving Capcom ideas!
+muramesa21 There was mad beef between Keiji Inafune (the creator of Mega Man), and Capcom. Capcom refused to have megaman in the game. For this same reason, the box art megaman from the first game (the picture of a man in a suit) is in street fighter x tekken but that version is fat and dumb adding further insult to Inafune and megaman fans alike.
Tagmon74 Roll and Servbot are generally treated as non-combatants in their games. Cable, Iceman, and Psylocke, while known by some, are comparatively slightly more obscure than some options. Shuma-gorath was just odd because, well, he is Shuma Gorath. He is a bit above the power level of someone like Roll or Spiderman, and it is a bit odd someone on his level of power is beaten by them in a fight like this. Most of the others are just kinda obscure, as in "raise your hand if you knew who Omega Red was before Googling him" kinda obscure.
When you realize that this series was always a 6/10 but is only a 10/10 when you play versus against friends, not online, friends! Just saw this, Infinite and Ultimate 3 and it's always the same score so maybe that's truly what it is when you really break them down and I agree! Even the godlike MvC2 was still getting shit and people believed it was around this until years later of breaking down the layers of that brilliant game, it's only 2 tho lol

Marvel vs. Capcom - the history as a whole - has NEVER been about the story. It is, at it's core, a "sport" game - immediate, accessible competition between two players, period. It really DOESN'T need more, and any more tacked onto it will feel just that - and add incredible amount of delay, loading times, and basically all of the fluff that isn't "playing the game." The fact that they cut endings to being minimal-but-there is a GREAT choice, because that's that much FASTER that the player can get back to the point of what they're DOING: PLAYING THE FUCKING GAME. :) You want story and FMV shit? Go play Ultimate Alliance, or literally any Activision xx Marvel game. Just don't complain that 25% of your time there is eaten up in animated cutscenes and QTEs; because that's basically the "missing part" of this you're asking for.
I'd be more willing to accept this if, back when I first got this game, I basically gave up on the multiplayer because it wouldn't work for me. If they were going for a "come in, play your heart out, get out" or whatever you were explaining, then they failed simply by making it too difficult to even play the game the way you want. The actual game is nice, though. I never really minded the lack of story since most fighting games I've ever played didn't seem to add much focus on them to begin with. It's only by the fact that this game is missing so much that makes the lack of story tack on and become more of an issue than it could have been.
Maybe in the past it was forgivable seeing as how gaming wasn't as robust back then, so money didn't have the industry booming as much, but now this shit is unforgivable. Something like MvC3 is at best a $35 purchase. If I just want to play a game that links nothing together making me feel like the whole reason we fight means nothing, ultimately; seamless violence, I'd just play CoD. Like Joe said, we expect a fighting game to be a good fighting game at least. But we don't expect it to be JUST a fighting game. Not anymore. The value at which we as the gaming community now see things has risen, because we as gamers are putting more money into the industry for them to make better games than the last. Since I prefer something more than just a bland starting bare minimal U.I and a lack of a some kind of plot to link everything together COMBINED with even the most basic features missing like no tutorial guide/walkthrough, all "ala" resulting in [what feels like] pointless fighting for my moneys worth; I''d play the 3x more successful MK9 until MKX hits the shelf, since they know how to get it right. I've ran through plenty of fighters, and this one is at the bottom of the barrel in my eyes.
I was a newcomer, bought the game because I liked the recognizable roster and thought I'd try a different fighting game other than Smash. Sure, it'd be different, but I'd learn it, right? Well, I played a couple of weeks with friends, and since button mashing was more successful than trying to play correctly, we just stopped and I haven't opened it up ever since ...
This is a really horrible game to pick up for beginners. You should pick up games like Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter or KOF first before MvC, they're much easier for beginners

kshawley still not an excuse to gives us half ass games. mk9 got a lot of free content, and also mkx.. while sfv & gave us 16 chars with only 2 offline modes .. lets not forget Mvc3 and sfIv you had keep on buying to get more chars and modes (for full price).. instead of just releasing them as dlc or hell even for free.. Now they are going to do the same thing with mvci giving us the same char and pretty small roster.. its a shame that mvci will only have 30 chars day one.. while tekken 7 got more chars (32~35)day one. my point is.. capcom has been doing this for years and people are letting them get away with because, "youre not a real fg fan if you dont buy them"

Although I agree on what he said on the endings, and online play. I entirely disagree on the character roster. Characters like Dante, Amaterasu, and Deadpool, more than make up for MODOK and she hulk. (I also believe the megaman series was well represented by Tron and Zero.) I bought UMVC3 a while back, trained for a while with a team consisting of Frank West, Felicia and Nemesis. Every online match i managed to get into i got pwnd because of all the fucking infinite (or inescapeable) combos, there is no point playing a fighting game with infinite/inescapeable combos and where your opponent doesnt even give you a fair chance.
How was the game dumbed down in combat? What most people see as the best DMC, DMC3, had a pretty clunky system. It was fun, but clunky at times especially being stuck to just one style. DMC4 was horribly clunky because of how poorly implemented the change styles were for Dante. The new DMC is by far the most streamlined and fluid, which make it the most fun to me. Although, I'll admit some of the later enemies slow things down a bit. Like Witches, who mainly annoy the hell out of me.
That helmet dude (also in other Angry Joe reviews) is Joe's representation of "Corporate", the big guy on top of the company releasing the game who decides what ultimately gets put in the game in this case, how fast it needs to be churned out and how much money they want to put into it.
Perhaps I have trouble with fighting games, but I feel the fighting game genre as a whole is rather lacking. Even some of my favorite fighting games like the Marvel vs Capcom series or the Soul Calibur series have very little replay value to me. It feels like because they are fighting games they don't need to have content, just fighting. There isn't enough variety in these types of game, which makes me more reluctant to return.
They would've been better off not having any plot at all. Because all I really cared about was the fighting, and the awesome OST. But, things should get better. And at the end, xD, *Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3*
Chris is the original male RE protagonist and has appeared in more RE games than Ada. It makes sense for him to be in. Especially when it also has Wesker. Whom is his arch nemesis. And they're not gonna add a whole bunch of RE characters. Especially Helena and Carla whose only appearances were in RE6. You'll be lucky if Leon even makes it into these games.
Yes simpleton complain about your lack of story and game modes. While I bask in the glory of mvc3 complexities. You say it's lacking than have a hard time with team aerial combos , x factor , cancels, combo resets etc. This has everything a fighting game needs to draw in a large community. Who needs a story trying to explain how these world's cross, when you have the best gameplay mechanics ( can be difficult to learn) most people have seen in a fighting game. Plus them pretty colors.
Pokemon has replay value because you can go through with a whole different team. And even if it didnt, the main story of most pokemon games takes between 20-30 hours. Much more if you're collecting all the pokemon. Plenty of bang for your buck. Other RPGs, usually Japanese ones, offer a new game plus mode. Where you carry over your weapons or experience or can earn 10x more experience per battle to level quicker. I think RPGs have more replay value than any other genre.
Story: This is a what if game, thats it. Tutorial: Read the manual that's what its for, and mission mode helps you build characters you choose Online: Ok, that's true. MVC vs TVC: MVC2 had four attack buttons and two assist buttons just like MVC3 Characters: We need some new characters, sorry if your favorites aren't in there. Simple Mode: That's for you Joe. This game also has art, music and voicework just like MK9. Mk9 doesn't even have a manual. whats your excuse there? You're just biased.

Fair enough.. But the old ones were better than the reboot. And I played the reboot first, so I'm unbiased.

KI doesn't have the hardest to master combo system. There's a lot of mechanics, but they aren't all that difficult. Guilty Gear is way harder to play.

This game may have fallen short but DAMN if those character themes are awesome, especially Captain America's.
People defending this game Super Smash bros brawl had a fun little storyline with characters that have nothing to do with each other besides being Nintendo. Hell some like Snake and Sonic are not even Nintendo but they pull it off.

+muramesa21 There was mad beef between Keiji Inafune (the creator of Mega Man), and Capcom. Capcom refused to have megaman in the game. For this same reason, the box art megaman from the first game (the picture of a man in a suit) is in street fighter x tekken but that version is fat and dumb adding further insult to Inafune and megaman fans alike.

Tagmon74 cable, iceman, blackheart, marrow, omega red, amingo, anakaris, bb hood captain commando, roll, servbot, sonson, psylocke, rogue, silver samurai, Shuma-gorath (considering doctor strange was rejected), hayato, dan, etc.
What's wrong with them?
Tagmon74 Roll and Servbot are generally treated as non-combatants in their games. Cable, Iceman, and Psylocke, while known by some, are comparatively slightly more obscure than some options. Shuma-gorath was just odd because, well, he is Shuma Gorath. He is a bit above the power level of someone like Roll or Spiderman, and it is a bit odd someone on his level of power is beaten by them in a fight like this. Most of the others are just kinda obscure, as in "raise your hand if you knew who Omega Red was before Googling him" kinda obscure.

When you realize that this series was always a 6/10 but is only a 10/10 when you play versus against friends, not online, friends! Just saw this, Infinite and Ultimate 3 and it's always the same score so maybe that's truly what it is when you really break them down and I agree! Even the godlike MvC2 was still getting shit and people believed it was around this until years later of breaking down the layers of that brilliant game, it's only 2 tho lol

Marvel vs. Capcom - the history as a whole - has NEVER been about the story. It is, at it's core, a "sport" game - immediate, accessible competition between two players, period. It really DOESN'T need more, and any more tacked onto it will feel just that - and add incredible amount of delay, loading times, and basically all of the fluff that isn't "playing the game."
The fact that they cut endings to being minimal-but-there is a GREAT choice, because that's that much FASTER that the player can get back to the point of what they're DOING: PLAYING THE FUCKING GAME. :)
You want story and FMV shit? Go play Ultimate Alliance, or literally any Activision xx Marvel game. Just don't complain that 25% of your time there is eaten up in animated cutscenes and QTEs; because that's basically the "missing part" of this you're asking for.
I'd be more willing to accept this if, back when I first got this game, I basically gave up on the multiplayer because it wouldn't work for me. If they were going for a "come in, play your heart out, get out" or whatever you were explaining, then they failed simply by making it too difficult to even play the game the way you want.
The actual game is nice, though. I never really minded the lack of story since most fighting games I've ever played didn't seem to add much focus on them to begin with. It's only by the fact that this game is missing so much that makes the lack of story tack on and become more of an issue than it could have been.
Maybe in the past it was forgivable seeing as how gaming wasn't as robust back then, so money didn't have the industry booming as much, but now this shit is unforgivable. Something like MvC3 is at best a $35 purchase. If I just want to play a game that links nothing together making me feel like the whole reason we fight means nothing, ultimately; seamless violence, I'd just play CoD.
Like Joe said, we expect a fighting game to be a good fighting game at least. But we don't expect it to be JUST a fighting game. Not anymore. The value at which we as the gaming community now see things has risen, because we as gamers are putting more money into the industry for them to make better games than the last.
Since I prefer something more than just a bland starting bare minimal U.I and a lack of a some kind of plot to link everything together COMBINED with even the most basic features missing like no tutorial guide/walkthrough, all "ala" resulting in [what feels like] pointless fighting for my moneys worth; I''d play the 3x more successful MK9 until MKX hits the shelf, since they know how to get it right.

I was a newcomer, bought the game because I liked the recognizable roster and thought I'd try a different fighting game other than Smash. Sure, it'd be different, but I'd learn it, right? Well, I played a couple of weeks with friends, and since button mashing was more successful than trying to play correctly, we just stopped and I haven't opened it up ever since ...
This is a really horrible game to pick up for beginners. You should pick up games like Tekken, Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter or KOF first before MvC, they're much easier for beginners
The bottom line is do not buy Crapcom games.

I understand this complaint, but he's to harsh. Yes, there should be a story mode and better endings, but they sacrificed content for a larger roster, good graphics, and amazing gameplay. As a mvc fan, this is no surprise. This is also why mvci has a tiny roster. They sacrificed characters and graphics for more content.
kshawley still not an excuse to gives us half ass games. mk9 got a lot of free content, and also mkx.. while sfv & gave us 16 chars with only 2 offline modes .. lets not forget Mvc3 and sfIv you had keep on buying to get more chars and modes (for full price).. instead of just releasing them as dlc or hell even for free.. Now they are going to do the same thing with mvci giving us the same char and pretty small roster.. its a shame that mvci will only have 30 chars day one.. while tekken 7 got more chars (32~35)day one. my point is.. capcom has been doing this for years and people are letting them get away with because, "youre not a real fg fan if you dont buy them"

I entirely disagree on the character roster. Characters like Dante, Amaterasu, and Deadpool, more than make up for MODOK and she hulk. (I also believe the megaman series was well represented by Tron and Zero.)

I bought UMVC3 a while back, trained for a while with a team consisting of Frank West, Felicia and Nemesis. Every online match i managed to get into i got pwnd because of all the fucking infinite (or inescapeable) combos, there is no point playing a fighting game with infinite/inescapeable combos and where your opponent doesnt even give you a fair chance.
How was the game dumbed down in combat? What most people see as the best DMC, DMC3, had a pretty clunky system. It was fun, but clunky at times especially being stuck to just one style. DMC4 was horribly clunky because of how poorly implemented the change styles were for Dante. The new DMC is by far the most streamlined and fluid, which make it the most fun to me. Although, I'll admit some of the later enemies slow things down a bit. Like Witches, who mainly annoy the hell out of me.
That helmet dude (also in other Angry Joe reviews) is Joe's representation of "Corporate", the big guy on top of the company releasing the game who decides what ultimately gets put in the game in this case, how fast it needs to be churned out and how much money they want to put into it.

Perhaps I have trouble with fighting games, but I feel the fighting game genre as a whole is rather lacking. Even some of my favorite fighting games like the Marvel vs Capcom series or the Soul Calibur series have very little replay value to me. It feels like because they are fighting games they don't need to have content, just fighting. There isn't enough variety in these types of game, which makes me more reluctant to return.
They would've been better off not having any plot at all.
Because all I really cared about was the fighting, and the awesome OST.
But, things should get better.

Chris is the original male RE protagonist and has appeared in more RE games than Ada. It makes sense for him to be in. Especially when it also has Wesker. Whom is his arch nemesis.
And they're not gonna add a whole bunch of RE characters. Especially Helena and Carla whose only appearances were in RE6. You'll be lucky if Leon even makes it into these games.

Yes simpleton complain about your lack of story and game modes. While I bask in the glory of mvc3 complexities. You say it's lacking than have a hard time with team aerial combos , x factor , cancels, combo resets etc. This has everything a fighting game needs to draw in a large community. Who needs a story trying to explain how these world's cross, when you have the best gameplay mechanics ( can be difficult to learn) most people have seen in a fighting game. Plus them pretty colors.
Pokemon has replay value because you can go through with a whole different team. And even if it didnt, the main story of most pokemon games takes between 20-30 hours. Much more if you're collecting all the pokemon. Plenty of bang for your buck. Other RPGs, usually Japanese ones, offer a new game plus mode. Where you carry over your weapons or experience or can earn 10x more experience per battle to level quicker. I think RPGs have more replay value than any other genre.
