With Glass Onion the idea works incredibly well. When you rewatch the film much of the elements make sense, such as Miles showing such shock and clear breaks in character. Glass Onion is intentionally playing on detective tropes to invert them.
@@CyborgCharlotte It’s not that, it’s that he overcomplicated it. He assumes that Miles must be a genius and presupposes that with everything. But when he looks past the Glass Onion he is able to see right through the proposed layers.

Cliche as the twin twist may be, it was done well in Glass Onion in my opinion. It is hinted at as everyone notices that Andi is acting different than usual. And it works well to frame everything seen up to that point in a new light, as the actual crime that Blanc is investigating is revealed.
@@migmit Before the twist, you're meant to look for who would be willing to kill Miles. Most of the characters seem to have a reason they would want him dead. It's only after the twist that everything turns around as Miles never was the victim. And it turns out that everyone is instead on his side out of desperation.
I think the actual "twist" is that she Sh*theads are all idiots who got to where they are through blind luck more than being super smart or skilled. Also alluded to by Miles's making up words or using them in the wrong context. I had to pause the move to do a sanity check with my wife on "Infraction Point" because we're *told* he's very smart, but it was creating some dissonance with me 20 minutes in.
@@migmit "It's better to be thought stupid and keep your mouth shut, than to open it and confirm everyone's suspicions." Miles Bron wasn't even remotely what he represented himself as. Just like Cassandra.
IMO, the simplistic trope was absolutely intentional, and completely inline with the plot. Remember the reveal: the detective basically RAGING at how simple and STUPID everything was and that's why it took him so long to figure it out...because he doesn't "do well" with that sort of thing. Which is exactly why the doppelganger trope fits so perfectly into the plot...it's exactly like the rest of the movie: so simple and blatant, everybody misses it.
I know I'm in the minority, but I found Glass Onion to be a real step down from the first film. It's horrifically self-indulgent and I didn't find the twists or rug-pulls to be clever or well constructed at all. If anything, they made me groan. Whereas the first film inventively plays with the usual mystery tropes and story beats, Glass Onion leans on the laziest and most amateurish of writing crutches to the point that it becomes the worst examples of cliched stories ("And then" storytelling without much rhyme or reason or character driving events, alongside constantly withholding key info from the audience within almost every scene, and pretending that equates to constructing a good mystery. It doesn't, it's cynical editing and incredibly lazy writing). Just my opinion, but Glass Onion really rubbed me the wrong way, and it was made worse by the film's presentation - it really believes it's more clever and brilliant than it is.
Hold up! The “Glass Onion” twist actually worked well in the scheme of things. I don’t know what movie y’all were watching or what pissed off people y’all were talking to but you all were way off with that entry.

...Glass Onion...I'm sorry but I thought the twist worked and the "cliche" was kinda the point and completely intentional. What really pissed me off with Lightyear the most was we already had a set up story. "Buzz Lightyear Star Command" was an awesome flick!

I don't blame you for misunderstanding Dominion since it was utter dogs hit, but the locusts weren't the villains. The villains in Dominion (and EVERY Jurassic Park movie) where the humans creating them.
I don't think the Knives Out twist was terrible. Yes, the secret twin trope is a cliche, but it was utilized really well in this movie. Plus, the narrative pacing was kept in tact by having the twist revealed at the halfway mark, rather than at the end.
For Scream VI the actor for Ethan looks a lot like Richie too and that's what made me think they're doing the same thing as Scream 2. Which is funny because in Scream 5 they make fun of Stab reusing plot lines 😂 maybe that was the real hint
To be fair, a swarm of genetically engineered locusts destroying everything in sight is a pretty apt metaphor for Jurassic World:Dominion. Doesn’t make the movie any better, but it’s an apt metaphor.
Light-year is doing it great and everything makes sense. Andy was watching that movie as a kid. He didn't understand it totally and the science behind it. So when an old men looking live buzz comes out of the zorg costume he automatically thinks that's his father and not an older version of buzz. So the toys are imprinted of the thoughts Andy had and therefore zorg is the father of buzz. You even give the explanation in your video without realizing it.
I found that there were more people who liked Don’t Worry Darling’s twist than disliked it. I’ve only really seen critics and these kinds of videos saying people disliked it. I know everyone has their own opinions but everyone I’ve talked to have liked the film, we just wanted more characters to have more developments. Like Bunny, we wanted more from her story and not so much with Jack and Alice.
8:37 This is actually a brilliant twist, but it should've occurred much earlier in the film. Either way, the movie wasn't as bad as people have made it out to be.
If I were to make a list of worst twists and reveals, I'd put the reveal of The Mother from Barbarian on my list honestly. For me, it was wayyy too predictable and not nearly balls to the walls crazy as people made it out to be. I do watch quite a bit of horror so it's harder to be surprised, but it almost felt insulting with how obvious it was
Unless you read the script ahead of time online noooo I liked the movie The directing was interesting, I liked all the actors and it ended at the perfect moment
Halloween Ends is slightly decent if you actually understand what they intended to do with the movie, though the inevitable sequel will ruin it lol! They basically just gave you a generic rundown of the entire franchise including the alternative timelines like the Zombie films, 4;5;6 etc. Michael killing the copy cat is the movie saying the OG is better than the Zombie films. Saying the locusts are the primary antagonist is disingenuous.
I don't know what it says about me but Moonfall is one of those movies that I know is objectively terrible but I really liked watching it for some reason.
I have no way of knowing for sure since I neither am nor know Rian Johnson, but I would bet money he used the secret twin cliché because he thinks he's such a gifted creator that he can make it work.
The only film on this list I've seen was "Glass Onion". Yes, the twin sister reveal was a bit silly. But the biggest disappointment was that I figured out the real killer's identity halfway through the movie.
I didn't, the mystery worked for me, but I usually don't think too much when I see a movie for the first time, I just sit back and let it wash over me, though I haven't watched it multiple times.
I agree that Scream 6's killers were pretty predictable, well 2 of them were, during the first viewing of course. I honestly thought the redhead was reddead because she, well looked like dead man, still does. It's a shame, because up until then, Scream 6 was looking like the second best in the series. The reveals at the time did kinda ruin the momentum, a bit. Now with a couple repeated viewings, the killers don't bother me AS much. Though, I will say this is one of the few things Scream 5 did better than 6. Much better reveal imo. Richie was great. Oh, and Chad being alive this time....Jesus.
@@nethanlock5008 Yeah, I am still not happy about Dewey. Gale should have died in this one though. It was a great scene, besides the very end of it. I am sensing a pattern in this one. Ah well hah. I do really like the movie honestly overall. I think it is has my second favorite opening scene/cold open, of the series for me thus far. I honestly loved it. Billy's daughter was much better in this one too. Really liked her performance this time, and I didn't care for her too much in the last one.
The only reason why I can buy Chad's survival is because of a part of SCREAM lore that every fan knows: Dewey was supposed to die way before 5, but his character was deemed " too popular" to get the axe, or rather, the knife. And I'm going to call it right here, kids: if Neve can be convinced to come back for the next one, Sidney will finally be killed off. Or Gale. Or maybe both of them!

Finally someone agrees that the Glass Onion twist was trash. Honestly, the entire movie was subpar from Knives Out. That movie is incredibly overrated.
I think it was a decently-crafted bit of satire for the whole "murder mystery" genre. Once you think of it in that regard, it improves greatly, IMO. Just like with "Thor: Love and Thunder": once you understand that it is a story being told from the perspective of Korg, it becomes WAY less pathetic and cringe-inducing. Still not a great movie, but not quite as hellish.
Surely Zurg being Buzz Lightyear’s dad was a one time joke referencing Star Wars, and was established as being part of Andy’s imagination as he was just playing. I think you’re overthinking it. I don’t understand the hate either, it was an enjoyable film
People don't like Olivia Wilde and that clouded their judgment of the movie. Some people have a hard time separating the artist from the art.
@@ThePrinceofHisOwnKingdom Speak for yourself. Most of the bad reviews I read all talked about the "scandal" involving Olivia Wilde and Jonas. The alleged cheating got more attention than the movie.
@@donnamurphy8551 same with the Flash, people are so wrapped up with Ezra drama, instead of the movie.
What pissed me off about Black Adam is I paid to see it. Halloween Ends was so upsetting. This franchise deserved a much better end. Michael deserved much better.
...Glass Onion...I'm sorry but I thought the twist worked and the "cliche" was kinda the point and completely intentional.
What really pissed me off with Lightyear the most was we already had a set up story. "Buzz Lightyear Star Command" was an awesome flick!
I can’t imagine hearing Vader say “Luke, I am your cousin”
I don't know, I looked up Moonfall because it popped up in free movie options. The moon is falling seemed like the stupidest plot they could have come up with. The moon is falling because it's not actually a moon sounds significantly better.
Dang, whoever wrote this hated Scream VI, lol. I didn't like it either, but that felt personal.
A good twist is hinted subtlety to throughout the story and makes it retroactively better. Because then you want to re-watch to see the hints.
That's why the Glass Onion twist works, but you get to rewatch it in the movie itself. A little lazy, but it works.
I felt the same way about Scream VI. The killers were stupidly signposted throughout and I was so annoyed.
I guess if you've watched the whole of black mirror you're kind of saturated with these kind of premises.
@@Hipp0campus_1 Fair, though I have not watched Black Mirror. Just not my style.
Worst remake/reboot/revisioning of "The Stepford Wives" ever...
It’s Red Dwarf’s Better Than Life with tradwives.
I CALL BS on SCREAM because I hadn't figured that sh!t out.
Halloween 3 was better than Halloween Ends.
Sotw is erased from the franchise.
8:37 This is actually a brilliant twist, but it should've occurred much earlier in the film. Either way, the movie wasn't as bad as people have made it out to be.
9:18 Actually NO Im still interested Keep going.
Terrible list scream 6 was fantastic and the glass onion twists where great
If I were to make a list of worst twists and reveals, I'd put the reveal of The Mother from Barbarian on my list honestly. For me, it was wayyy too predictable and not nearly balls to the walls crazy as people made it out to be.
I do watch quite a bit of horror so it's harder to be surprised, but it almost felt insulting with how obvious it was
Let’s be honest, we all saw the twist to Don’t Worry Darling coming
Unless you read the script ahead of time online noooo
I liked the movie
The directing was interesting, I liked all the actors and it ended at the perfect moment
I have to say, I did not see it coming. That twist was MUCH dumber than anything I could have imagined.
Got to say, even knowing JP Domini would be bad, I still wanted to see it for nostalgia. But that twist makes me reconsider.
I still did watch it for nostalgia. Only once it was free to watch for me on prime. Did fall asleep the first attempt but I eventually finished it.
1:42 Didn’t they show Ghostface leaving the train after stabbing Mindy? I think Quinn stabbed her.
Revitalise Toy Story? They've never missed
The Ghostface on the subway in Scream 6 was Quinn
Dr. Lewis Dodgson was clearly the antagonist in JWD.
Ethan was also dressed like Jack Torrance in the shining
Scream 5 on Netflix used to have all of the killers subtitles say ghost face yes when not masked
Ok. Hear me out. There actually is some proof to show that the moon was placed there artificially. Yes, I know I sound insane, but look it up lol
I don't know what it says about me but Moonfall is one of those movies that I know is objectively terrible but I really liked watching it for some reason.
I'm still looking for a compelation of Jules saying "terminator, Gyniceis"
Bodies Bodies Bodies with Pete Davidson foolishly slashing himself by accident sets off everything.
I actually appreciated that twist, because it was completely feasible that his character would be that much of an idiot.
No idea way Glass Onion is on this list. The rest weren't impressive, right
Quinn stabbed Mindy in Scream VI, not Ethan.
Ah didn't Scream 1 also have 3 Ghost Faces? The 2 guys that revealed themselves then the other one that ended up killing one of them
I have no way of knowing for sure since I neither am nor know Rian Johnson, but I would bet money he used the secret twin cliché because he thinks he's such a gifted creator that he can make it work.
Killed by Miles's associates?!
Why do people hate on Glass Onion so much? It was a great movie
I mean, most of these didnt piss anyone off.
Fun list though.
He literally got stabbed like 40 times, gale didn't die, the killers were meh but overall I enjoyed it a lot. Probably my 3rd favourite scream movie
@@mattmccomas1 its funny cos I actually totally agree with you 🤣.
@@nethanlock5008 Great minds! 😄
The movies were either dumb or done better in other movies. Terminator Dark Fate, they kill John Conner & replace him with someone who is clearly not a leader
SCREAM
4 5 6
those twists suck
HALLOWEEN 2018 trilogy
SUCKS
LIGHTYEAR
the only good thing was
SOX
I’m really tired of the baiting picks you all put on these lists. Weren’t you praising the hell out of some of these movies when they came out?? Thought you were better
I enjoyed Glass Onion
Am I the only one who found Knives Out wildly predictable?
Damn…we get it, you didn’t like Moonfall…a film that amalgams a handful of conspiracy theories into one highly CGI’d spectacle…
It’s was like if The Onion penned the story and some fuckmook exec that doesn’t have a clue threw decent production at it…
Hollow moon theory? Check.
Simulation theory? Check.
Humanity is the descendants of aliens that were in an intergalactic war? Check.
AI overlords going on Terminator missions across organic reality? Check.
Yeah yeah yeah, I’m certain this isn’t a popular opinion but damn, your tone was just so…it seemed like of the entire list, Moonfall was personal…
Although Scream 6? Spot in!!! We’re also getting bored with the predictableness of recent films…
Nope disagree with scream, shocking it’s in this list. who the hell you gonna pick for the killers….
Iron Man 3 : The Mandarin!!!
Nuff Said!!!
JW:D was a HUGE disappointment
I thought that was the whole point to Glass Onion. To be obvious. It’s in the name right?
Finally someone agrees that the Glass Onion twist was trash. Honestly, the entire movie was subpar from Knives Out. That movie is incredibly overrated.
I think it was a decently-crafted bit of satire for the whole "murder mystery" genre. Once you think of it in that regard, it improves greatly, IMO. Just like with "Thor: Love and Thunder": once you understand that it is a story being told from the perspective of Korg, it becomes WAY less pathetic and cringe-inducing. Still not a great movie, but not quite as hellish.
There’s nothing fresh about scream , halloween, and especially jurrasick park 4 or 5. ? Lost track and don’t care
Meatloaf
Surely Zurg being Buzz Lightyear’s dad was a one time joke referencing Star Wars, and was established as being part of Andy’s imagination as he was just playing. I think you’re overthinking it. That said… here I am, a man in my forties debating whether Zurg is really Buzz Lightyear’s dad or not. I am Comic Book Guy 😫
