- In this video, I will show you how to replace your dash lights on your 1998-2012 Ford Ranger, Mazda B3000, or Ford Explorer. This process is straightforward, but it can be tedious at times. Following this step-by-step guide, you can swap everything out in about half an hour or less. I replaced all of my dash lights with LEDs from superbrightleds and you can get them at the link below:

KEEP ON IMPROVING!!!!
Thank you. Your tips made our repair possible. 😊
I'm glad I could help!!
This tutorial works for the following vehicles:
1995-2011 Ford Ranger
1995-2001 Ford Explorer
2001-2003 Ford Explorer Sport
2001-2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac
1997-2001 Mercury Mountaineer
1995-2010 Mazda B-Series
Ah...I forgot about the Mountaineers.
@@TheMileHighMechanicThat’s often a forgotten one anyway. 😂
didnt we all@@TheMileHighMechanic
Great job ! 👏 😊
Thank you, I appreciate it. Glad I could help!
LEDs are not good for this application I highly recommend getting the regular bulbs and just getting the rubber colored covers that go on the bulbs and it'll do all the same thing change the colors with the factory bulbs last 10 times longer than LEDs
I like to color of the LEDs and I believe you have the statistics on factory vs LED bulbs mixed... LED bulbs can live up to 30 times longer than their incandescent counterparts...this makes them perfect for in dash applications to me🤷
Do you know if this works for a 98 ranger? And if it’s the same process? Thanks
Yep same process.
I'm considering doing this to my Ranger. How have things held up long term?
Still going strong! Use them almost every day too
@@TheMileHighMechanic would the check engine and other lights need to be different colors or do they shine through colored screens?
@@TheNamesWolf They go through colored screens so now special bulbs are needed
This worked great on my 1999. But man those plastics failed EVERYWHERE. No matter how careful be prepared to have to replace the entire plastic parts of the dash.
Yikes, sorry it didn't work out as planned! Seems like you can't catch a break.
Hi,
I have a Ford Ranger 2000.
I changed the bulbs but they don't all work. The numbers around the speedometer don't light up. I looked at the back of the cluster while plugged in and it seems like not all the smaller bulbs with the beige back light up. Have you had to replace those before? Thank you for your help and video!!
I have not done a video about replacing the smaller bulbs, but it is the same process but with a different bulb.
@@TheMileHighMechanic what is the smaller bulb size?
@@dh123ize It is a 74 bulb
So it's been a year. How are the bulbs doing?
@@bgregg55 Doing great 👍 Currently in the truck and I couldn't be happier!
Do you have a link to all the dash LED bulbs ? Including the ones behind the air flow controls
@@scottrodgers782 The bulbs I used are in the description, the climate control lights are in the description of my video on that aswell
Mines a 2011 has a different dash layout, and has a center area that has all the indicators, im thinking my high beam indicators out. Looks like this is mainly for the speedometer and the other gages.
This should still work, but stuff will look a little different.
@@TheMileHighMechanic I actually finally found a diagram of the dash that had the locations of all the indicators. Ment to check my dash to see if it actually was working. But it probably isn't if I didn't see it before
@@ryleyw3684 that should be useful
Do you recall how many bulbs are in the AC control area?
There are 2, I have a video on my channel where I show the process and the type of bulb that you will need to use as well.
What color temperature bulb did you get? Cool, natural or warm?
Cool
How do you remove the cable shifter behind the dash?
There are 2 clips on either side that you push in, but mine is a manual so it doesn't have it.
The bulbs in the 2011 are much smaller. The 197 does not work.
Loved your video bro just changes mine out on my 2005 Ranger only bulbs i needa change are the ones in the 4x4 switch and the headlight switch have you changed yours out and do you have a video on it??
That is not a bulb that you can replace unfortunately...you will have to swap out the switch entirely because the bulb is internal.
@@TheMileHighMechanic gotcha thanks bro!!!

I bought the lights and they don't have any way to connect, just circuts
The lights should be direct replacements for the old bulbs...this video outlines how to remove and replace them...If the look of the bulb is throwing you off I can see why. They have contacts on the bottom that you push into the sockets.
😊😊😊😅😅😅😅3@@TheMileHighMechanic
Some of my dash lights are shot so I’m thinking of replacing them soon. Where could I get the bulbs?
@@Micahs_Flicks I believe I left a link in the description
@@TheMileHighMechanic appreciate it and the video was very helpful btw!
@@Micahs_Flicks Glad I could help!
@TheMileHighMechanic the step by step both ways with a bolt count should be standard. It works well for the adhd crowd 😊
@@RichardRuth Absolutely, it is the only way my videos make sense to me😂
What bulbs did you use for the dome light?
I would head over to superbrightleds.com and use their bulb finder...I don't know the size of the bulb off the top of my head.
How did the red lights turn to white lights
Red lights? I'm not quite sure what you mean.
What dash kit is that for your radio?
Not quite sure the model, but it is a Kenwood Head unit that I got from crutchfield
Ty
Of course!
Is this kind of bulb dimmable?
Yes
So you have green and white for the colors on the dash lights? Were the yellow ended bulbs the green?
No, the bulbs are white, but the lettering on the dash has a green film on it that makes it look green when the lights are on.
@@TheMileHighMechaniccan the film be removed?
@@anythingoutdoorsofficial I have never heard of anyone doing this before, but if I had to guess I would say no, it can't be removed...that being said if I had a spare cluster I would take some acetone/alcohol to it and see if it rubbed off, but I do not recommend this.
Are they dimmable
Yes
@@TheMileHighMechanic how dimmable are they
@@walterwhite1 All the way
@@TheMileHighMechanic do u have the link for these leds :)

I hope other ranger owners don't do this, my 07 level 2 gages are not wired like this.
Oh interesting, what is different?
This only works for 97 to 03 rangers
Did you mention the socket size needed for the bolts?
I believe they are 7mm
