    Why are you drip-feeding these video clips? Just post the whole talk like every other institution of any credible reputation does. Why play the gatekeeper role, especially given the context surrounding the two speakers? Weird.

    I love that Yanis makes the point about Obama/Trump. I have said this out loud to so many people but in the US everyone has such short memories. There are more connections between Trump and Obama as well. One of them being that Obama was a larger than life personality cultivated "from within" the party machine. Trump was a larger than life personality cultivated "from without". It took the first to pave the way for the second, in so many respects.

      Nader described Obama perfectly. A corporate centrist with no regard for the working person. Like every president from the last two years of Carter, basically right wingers protecting the wealthy and instituting austerity for the working person.

    Why have largely Hispanic counties in South Texas and the California Central Valley overwhelming have supported trump? As someone from the California Central Valley, I can tell you the horrors of our open borders policies with Mexico is felt directly and bluntly by the people of my home region. The drugs brought in by the Mexican drug cartels has devastated an entire generation both white and Hispanic, the mass immigration, the the instability, the fear of knowing violent psychopathic drug cartels that control large parts of the southern border are just a dimes throw away from us etc. also most Hispanics here in south Texas and the California Central Valley aren’t immigrants but are +3rd,4th,5th generation so the anti-immigrant stuff doesn’t bother them, why should it?

    I agree with both of these guys however I believe they’re underestimating the power of propaganda in the post-truth society. They’re extremely knowledgeable themselves and that’s biased their views on what has influenced the average Joe in America (especially MAGAs), the bias being that they think the people were making semi-educated decisions whereas I argue that they based their decisions almost purely on populism and the media talking points within the Overton Window.

      Comparing USA political things and Greek ones is literally the stupidest thing i have ever read in yt. Political scene and how a party gets to be in the pariliament is pretty different in these two countries. One is an imperialist country, the mother of capitalism and a world power (i guess still the first one until the dolar falls off) and the other is a small country with no power enough to even be independent.

    • @Alexed.w
      @Alexed.w День тому

      @@REd-ru5ce well it's a good thing literally no one is comparing the two then. I'm saying Varoufakis' understanding of how to build a political movement in any country, be it Greece or US is shit.

    • @REd-ru5ce
      @REd-ru5ce День тому

      @@Alexed.w Well, movements usualy are not built by a politician or even a political party. On the contrary, Parties should be built by movements. In this case parties can have ties to the rest of society and not being cut off, like it is happenng thought USA history.
      Also, mera25 in Greece was never a huge party. Even when it was in the parliament it only had small numbers. What they were saying from the stance was against the local oligarchs who own the media, who own the oil and ships and the distribution of energy and who own even the teams. No wonder they never appear in the biggest media channels. Also, Varoufakis alone was thown so much dirt on 2015 which was based on stupidly false propaganda. Ofc he did mistakes.
      Also one thing, you have to understand that you actually did compare two different situations. A political persons actions are in accordance to the political field hes playing on. Bernie is playing in the USA political scene and Varoufakis in a completly different. Ofc their actions cant really be compared without putting them in context.

    I'm surprised they both still respect Bernie Sanders 😂
    Bro ended up squandering his own movement, telling his supporters they should vote for the very people that robbed him (twice) instead and turned into a clown 😂
    Edit: Yanis seems to think this was merely a "mistake" by Bernie. I'd argue that it was not. The fact that he allowed himself to be robbed and sidelined twice, regardless of having a massive progressive following, and the fact that he extracted zero concessions from the Democratic Party in return for sheepdogging all that progressive support into them, suggests that Sanders was always a ruse.
    Sanders' political insignificance and flacidity today can largely be attributed to the progressive movement figuring him out and having these very same suspicions.
    He squandered a prime opportunity to coalesce a real rainbow movement behind him and eventually those who initially looked to Bernie, moved on to Trump, who actually looked to have strength and political courage.

Don't get me wrong I despise the decisions taken by the Democratic party and they were indeed done in a criminal manner just like Yanis described. But it is very naive to assume they were done out of a secret plan masterminded by Bernie to sell out all the left-leaning Dems electorate. He was pressured just like any other politician in the world that isn't backed by the millions of dollars that someone like Clinton or Biden had. He made a choice and confronted with fracturing the party or electing Trump he went with the safe option. As much as he is popular he is not backed by billionaires which would mean he would be obliterated in number of TV spots, advertising, rallies, etc. Also that country has zero left-wing political tradition and if he were to start a new party that would be easily obliterated by the 2-party system. In fact the populist wing of the Dems has already been destroyed when Clinton centrists decided the Democratic party should be more aligned to the right. His story of national recognition and a good shot at becoming president unfortunately happened in a post-Obama era at the same time that Trump did - if it were other times, maybe he would be the name from the Dems, who knows. These guys still think Marxism is real, when it was disproven shortly after it was developed by Marx and abandoned by Lenin and Stalin and pretty much every other vanguardist movement. Then Zizek waxes on about Lacan and the Frankfurt School which are quite far from orthodox Marxism and never produced a single stable state. Meanwhile, Social Democracy ran for decade after decade as the solution while these people dawdled in their faculty offices and had chummy conversations about establishing gulags. And then they sit here repeating bad internet rumors about policy in the Social Democratic West and in the U.S. as if they are serious conclusions, because who cares about little details like facts when they are armed with their tattered theory! They don't have an empirical bone in their bodies and it shows.
      Not only this, Zizek keeps yapping how he's such a Hegelian. What the hell does that have to do with dialectical materialism? Marx copied Hegel's form but substituted the content and it was absolutely critical to adopt materialism for Marxism to be true. And yet here's Zizek saying he's a communist but adopting the reformed theology of Hegel? Zizek is a mess I cannot figure out why anyone cares what he thinks. In fact nobody who matters cares.
