Function and Importance
Pressure Regulation: The hydraulic system of an LHD machine operates under high pressure to perform tasks such as lifting, dumping, and hauling. The shock relief valve helps to manage this pressure by releasing excess pressure that can occur due to sudden movements or operational changes.
Protection Against Damage: By relieving excessive pressure, the valve helps to protect hydraulic components such as pumps, cylinders, and hoses from damage. This extends the life of the equipment and prevents costly repairs or replacements.
System Stability: It ensures smooth and stable operation of the hydraulic system. This is critical in an LHD machine where reliable performance is essential for safety and efficiency in the demanding environment of underground mining.
Operation
Pressure Set Point: The shock relief valve is set to open at a specific pressure threshold. This threshold is usually determined based on the design specifications and operational requirements of the LHD machine.
Excess Pressure Release: When the hydraulic pressure exceeds this set point due to sudden shocks or excessive load, the valve opens to release the excess pressure. This could be through a bypass line or venting mechanism.
Return to Normal: Once the pressure drops back below the set threshold, the valve closes, allowing the hydraulic system to resume normal operation.
Types
Spring-Loaded Relief Valves: Commonly used in hydraulic systems, these valves use a spring to keep the valve closed until the pressure exceeds the set limit.
Pilot-Operated Relief Valves: These provide more precise control and are used in systems requiring higher pressure or more controlled relief.
