    First truck I drove was a 1956 LJ Mack with a 5x4 and 24" rubber, It was 1982 and I was still in high school working as a mechanic, it was our Wrecker. That LJ was still in service up till 1997 when the owner passed and shop closed. I wish I had the foresight to buy it, but didn't. Someone bought it and started to restore it took it all apart and then scrapped it or sold it off in pieces I'm told. Makes me sad just thinking about it.

    I love it when people do these types of restorations... I am a very big diesel head and I think what you did on this truck is just amazing.. i'd live to do one... but seeing as i'm 17 and still at home.... not gonna happen anytime soon...

    Louder, and it doesn't rain chunks of muffler down every time you rev it now.

    i like at the start how air is going straight to the turbo and not going through the snorkel lol

    We think it was either a heavy dump truck or a cement mixer. It has an auxiliary PTO shaft coming up on the right side, but everything was already missing by the time he got it.

    In the late 60's Mack loaned a V8 Cabover to Terminal Transport trying to get them to buy Mack's. They owned the General GMC dealership in Atlanta but took the unit as a goodwill gesture. 1 of their drivers was stopped doing 87mph at max GVW Northbound on I-75 in Tenn. That was the end of the loaner program from what I was told.LOL

    6 in the front, 8 in the back. Flipped the axle in the rear with 3'' blocks. Had to shorten the driveshaft. Front just cut the coils and put shorter shocks on. Rides a bit harsh for the owner lol.

    yes and no some stuff you can get new mostly small parts the sheet metal is hard to find even more so for the b81 macks. Im still looking of a fender and a fifthwheel for the truck.

    I worked at a parts store in mid ' 80 ' s and I always liked asking the customers if their vehicle their working on carbonated or fuel infected

    Back in those days there wasn't any power steering so if you weren't familiar with this type of equipment you would bust your knocles off the steering wheel while trying to turn.

    Truck cost; $750. Tow home: $150. 2 big batteries: $350. 2 cases ether: $50. Mack Adjustment tool: $1.00. 4 cases Miller Lite: $55. Domino's ass-flusher pizzas: $35. Getting it to run, and the resulting shower of rust, water, mouse corpses, engine debris and assosrted shit from the stack : PRICELESS!!!! Backyard Tech 101. Well done, boyos! Check out .BIGMACKTRUCKS dotCOM, if you haven't yet.

      Mack 711 with a dealer installed ad on turbo.

    • @mikelamothesr.8998
      @mikelamothesr.8998 8 років тому +1

      711 was a 237 hp (177Kw) with the addition of the turbo. Mack trucks were, I believe rated at the wheels and not at the back of the engine as with other model engines. I could be corrected.

    • @DWLip
      @DWLip 5 років тому

      @@mikelamothesr.8998 I've heard that as well. That would mean that a turbocharged 711 produced around 280 HP at the crank after factoring in gearing and total power loss.

  • @thezenkitteh

    Looks like you have an oil burning problem. Not sure what all has been done to the truck but I'd replace that turbo if it isn't already new. At the least replace the seals.
