What a superb example of an author who knows how to deliver to his fans - not a super fan myself but I greatly admire Sanderson’s stamina and advance planning 😮
Brandon has confirmed that Mistborn Era 4 will be the end of the cosmere. He might do other stories in the cosmere but Era 4 will be the finale. Also I think that he has to write Hoids origin story (Dragonsteel) before he write Era 4.
Awesome video. His update post usually drops around his birthday, so in another two weeks or so we'll see if his plans have changed much from last year.
Brandon has said a few times now that he had ideas/thoughts for a Cyberpunk based Mistborn Era that would be the new Era 4 and would push the Space Opera Mistborn Era to Era 5. They would be books similar in size to the Era 2 books whereas Ghostbloods will be similar to Era 1 size and Space Opera Mistborn will be Stormlight in size so that’s fun to look forward to. This also doesn’t count anything else he might come up with lol…
Being that his books are all in the cosmer if he keeps going its going to be very very daunting for new readers to get into. I'm trying to catch up myself. Ive read all era 1 mistborn and am on the 2nd era. Theres so many novellas and books I have to read so many secrets projects. Feels like its gonna take a million years.
I only just finished Mistborn Era 2 yesterday. Stormlight archive is planned for next year but I will read a few other books and series before that as I read many Sanderson books this year; all Cosmere novels, novellas and short stories excluding anything Stormlight Archive, White Sands, Secret Projects and Elantris (Read that one last year) and need a bit of variety.
I more or less did the same thing as you regarding the order, but a couple years ago. I'm pleased I left the Stormlight archive till the end. Started with Elantris. Wish there was more Steelheart world
Brandon has committed to 5 mistborn eras not 4. He has confirmed he will be doing a cyberpunk trilogy to make 16 mistborn books as of a year or two ago. Edit: also that Hoid PoV mistborn is era 5/space age. We have known for a while Hoid will be a main PoV character.
With the latest Stormlight book out I can finally check out the series. I do like Brandon’s work. MistBorn and also Tress and the Emerald Sea( phenomenal book). So this is a good thing.
Pretty sure he's said there'll be 5 Mistborn eras now with a Cyberpunk trilogy between what was originally Eras 3 and 4, so that it's 16 books total. Also the Dragonsteel series will apparently be a thing someday
I’ve never ever ever read Brandon Sanderson. I do not know where to start but all I’m hearing about is this new book wing and truth! And why! Is this a huge book in some sort of series he’s been writing for the past decade or so? Or is it deeper than that? Whereby this saga of books is part of a whole universe he’s creating? I know. Nothing about this guy or his books and am interested in two things. 1) is he super hyped for a reason and do I give him a try? 2) if I do want to start what and where do I start or even approach him 3) what book is the best one to start with? I’m so confused 😕
Does anyone know if Sanderson has said Stormlight Archive is going to become more sci-fi during Arc 2? Because I think it’s interesting that he’s waiting to complete Mistborn era 3 (which takes place during a computer age similar to the 1980s tech) before continuing the SA series.
I mean he could simply be tired of writing stormlight books and looking for a break, while writing other stuff. But a sci-fi stormlight book sounds really amazing
I believe it's set to take place 10 years after the first arc and I'm pretty sure he's confirmed that the cosmere ends in an inter-galactic space travel type era so it is maybe likely that we start to see more sci-fi type stories start to develop in arc 2. He talks about it in his speech at nexus wind and truth release party if you want to check it out on his UA-cam page
I am not a Sandersonian by any means, but considering what I've heard about Warbreaker, does this book really need a sequel? Doesn't it work as a standalone on itself and a tie-in to Stormlight and that's it? Would that be such a tragedy? I am curious about WB mainly because it stands on its own and you don't necessarily need to read 237 before getting around to it
@alexbigday1587 it works as a standalone but I don't think it dug much into the world, I could see a sequel working. But I also don't want a sequel because I don't actually think Warbreaker's very good.
Listening to Brandon Sanderson release dates are just depressing. Hearing that I'll probably in my 50's when he finally finishes the Storm light Archive and Mistborn is kind of sad.
I wonder where he goes from here. He has to do a huge crossover series at some point now. And that wasn’t a conclusion. It leaves most of the characters in a spot where there stories aren’t concluded. If he skips 1,000 yrs and we don’t revisit these characters i will be hugely disappointed.
Think you did a great job, Johan! Sometimes its hard to figure out what the Storymatic3000 is going to sneak through next 😂 btw are you reading Wind and Truth?
Too many 😂left to wirte according to outline he needs to do Dragonsteel and aether. SA era 3 not possible unless tirology or involved in mistborn era 4/SA cross over.
@LynxRecover of course people have differences of opinion, but claiming something is among the greats is not a mere opinion. What a surprise, however, that someone doesn't worship at the Sanderson altar he is immediately mocked by his worshippers
What even is this? There hasn't been enough actual hours passed for anyone to have read the book and you're already talking about what's next? Can we finish the current story first please?

The day he finishes the last word of the Cosmere that man is going to dissolve into dust

Absolutely!
State of Sanderson comes out around his birthday 12/19
Hoid is a main POV for Mistborn Era 4
That date is an abomination

I really hope he carries on with that idea for Era 4 and 5. Simply more Mistborn is better
There’s also the eventual Dragonsteel trilogy that will come out pretty far in the future

Warbreaker sequel will focus on Vivienna so I'm totally fine with it being scrapped unless Brandon changes his mind about the MC choice
Emberdark is also releasing next year as well.
7:06 He stated, that Hoid will be the main character in the final Mistborn era (4 or 5)
I think hiswork output will harm him in the long run,I already feel stressed trying to catch-up on the cosmere

He was hesitant to confirm the Cyberpunk Mistborn era during the WaT release party stream. He might still do them, but we likely won't get a 5th era.
