He's not a modern Mozart. He's *the* modern Leonardo da Vinci. With an awesome crew of other Renaissance Artists and Inventors as his backing band.
Honestly, Martin, I know you are worried about the MMX never finishing, but whenever you do a redesign to create a more reliable and cooler looking system, it always creates an incredibly valuable educational video! I've learned so much about engineering, from the importance of quality management systems, how to deal with redesigns (pain is temporary, glory is forever), and how a complex system can be split up and tackled in small parts. Even if it takes 10 years to finish the MMX, I'll love watching and contributing to the journey so much! I know you want to finish the MMX so you can create something great, but please don't forget that the incredible documentation of the journey that you've produced in the mean time is probably a creation that will outlive any MMX concert (in my heart at least).
Nero Nyte I didn’t almost, I actually did when the Prelude came on. All these elements of painstaking engineering and complexity, assembled to their culmination, faded away and produced simple beauty.
He could do it, I don't think there is any doubt about that. But it would require that many redesigns and countless going back to fixing the previous problems that appear when he is testing the next new instrument, that machine wouldn't ever get "ready".
Need an AI to go through all the videos before they're posted. Anytime it detects the words "final iteration", it re-edits and re-renders the video to include "...for now" on the screen as the words are said.

There is a moment when Martin plays the bass and stops looking at it critically like something's gonna explode, and instead takes a moment to enjoy what progress has been made. And suddenly... this genuine smile creeps on his face, and he kinda loses it for a second. That was wonderful to see. Made me beam with a smile too -- Martin, you've come so far! There's still a long way to go, but you're rolling that damn rock over that mountain some day, you mark my words!

When this video came into my feed it read "16 seconds ago..." yet there are already 35 comments, and now 600 views in less than a minute. Never been this early before, and this is impressive. In fact this video was impressive, I really enjoyed it. Great job to Martin, Richard, and Ace!
True craftsmen in every sense of the word, everything from woodworking, metal fabrication, welding, etc. Building hand crafted machines to play makes for an awesome skill set. Creators like these guys are a dying breed for the most part, where most of the world have decided if you can't buy it at a store, it can't exist, these guys prove, if you can imagine something, and are good at working with your hands, you can create practically anything.
I couldn't read all of it, so it looked schizophrenic to me because of the fold. It seemed as if the top of the label said, "Promotes health" and the bottom said, "Smoking damages your health and that of those around you."
Of course, we can’t for *spectacular editor* to: extraordinary engineer, musician, composer, machinist, programmer, carpenter, mathematician... I guarantee I don’t know or am forgetting something that makes you incredible lol... And I spotted it at the end,, you’re clearly great at drawing, as your “sketches” are very clear and clean.
So Martin has like 2 personalities in his videos: the one where he barely talks at all and everything goes perfectly and the one where he speaks and things tend to go wrong
When he's silent, he's letting his work do the talking. When he speaks, he's trying to distract us from the fact that one more thing on the machine is getting the angle grinder treatment.

If you had watched all the previous videos you would know the MMX is designed to be taken apart for transportation. It has several sections that are easy to detach from each other.
I've used lots of linear rails in industrial settings. Rest assured that those in the video can run many kilometers under the light loads they'll see without lubrication. If the noise is a problem, they're nearly silent when greased, we use THK AFB-LF lithium grease. However, the grease is trapped in the ball bearings by the optional wipers, which add considerable static friction to the assembly. Not a problem if you're running them with a motor or hydraulic cylinder, but could be a problem for actuating by hand.
It's time to finally acknowledge the great amount of work Maureen from Meticulae Designs is putting in organizing the work of the CAD team. First: Give her a mention in the description. Please. Why would it fail more if he uses 5 washers instead of one? If the crew comes loose it will not matter how many washers are in there. It will malfunction anyway?
@@lulle2007200 It is not fully simulated or carefully designed. As he finds issues in final assembly all the time. This can be reduced by doing CAD simulation but that takes someone skilled in solidworks to spend a good amount of time to fully model the physics of it. Basically something that you would only do when prototyping is way too expensive. Martin is just showing off his process in full. You don't get to see all the hundreds of prototypes that lead up to the finished products you often buy in the shops. Remember that the marble machine you see here shouldn't ever be considered a final version. That is something he can do once he has a fully working prototype.
Our children in the US don't even get to touch these instruments today. When I was in it high we had access to wood and metals lathes etc. Your work proves what we should be doing.

Well all the problems that he fixed were already acknowledged in the comment section of the first design, now that they're fixed, there's no real need to redesign it, and it has no influence on the rest of the machine either, so changes on other parts won't "break" this
From a musical standpoint it woulk have been cool to have a super-assembly, that would allow you to shift all fingers at once, in order to easily move chord shapes.

When all those quick fix washers on various parts of the machine start having problems... man that's a lotta problems
Once he finishes it he could always machine a singular metal or rubber piece for each separate section.
@@rampagent9226 I really hope he does. The "quick fix washers" bother me so much, especially since almost all of the machine is more (or less) carefully engineered
How would washers have problems? They seem like literally the least problematic possible solution to adjust heights.
Why would it fail more if he uses 5 washers instead of one? If the crew comes loose it will not matter how many washers are in there. It will malfunction anyway?
@@lulle2007200 It is not fully simulated or carefully designed. As he finds issues in final assembly all the time. This can be reduced by doing CAD simulation but that takes someone skilled in solidworks to spend a good amount of time to fully model the physics of it. Basically something that you would only do when prototyping is way too expensive. Martin is just showing off his process in full. You don't get to see all the hundreds of prototypes that lead up to the finished products you often buy in the shops. Remember that the marble machine you see here shouldn't ever be considered a final version. That is something he can do once he has a fully working prototype.
Our children in the US don't even get to touch these instruments today. When I was in it high we had access to wood and metals lathes etc. Your work proves what we should be doing.

Man when he used the digital scale I was hoping for a “make the noise” comment. I was disappointed to not have two of the best two channels on UA-cam connected in some way...
He was, correctly observed, making a sort of bracket. But he was not drinking tea at the same time, so he is legally not required to say "make the noise". But it would have been an awesome reference... :P

Well all the problems that he fixed were already acknowledged in the comment section of the first design, now that they're fixed, there's no real need to redesign it, and it has no influence on the rest of the machine either, so changes on other parts won't "break" this
