  • This is a detailed video showing exactly how to fix an ABC ‘Visit Workshop’ fault (B22/10) on a 2004 Mercedes SL55 AMG. Rather than replacing the entire hydraulic strut, this video shows you how to replace just the electronic plunger sensor and fix the ABC fault. There are detailed instructions for removing the boot lining and putting the trunk lid (boot lid) in 'service mode'.
    The end of the video shows you exactly what parts ands tools you need, where to get them, and how much everything will cost. This cost us less than $200 to fix.
    The previous video gave a little more detail on how to scan the car for this B22/10 fault using the iCarsoft v2 scanner.

    These SLs may be old but still one of the best used cars around. Lovely to drive but one must be willing to service it correctly.

      Agreed - I think one of the biggest problems is that these cars are now cheap enough to be affordable to people who cant really afford to service them. For example changing the ABC fluid regularly will do wonders for the longevity of the system. Mike

    The roof mechanism on this model is amazing. The complexity is frightening though. Thankfully German production means it’s been reliable so far. I have an 2014 350SL which is showing rear battery error. Mikes last video has encouraged me to replace it myself. Great work Mike. Now I know why dealers never do a good job refitting interior trim then just don’t spend time or effort it takes to refit all the small clips etc correctly.

      Your comment has got me thinking that at some stage, it might be interesting to do a comparison between the R107 and R230. The 107 draws a lot of attention and admiring glances and I have a suspicion would win the beauty contest in a line up with the general public. However, the SL55 feels like a modern car and not something you have to be too precious about....Mike

    Great tutorial Mike, you have another subscriber. I have an SL55 sagging on one corner but no leaks and it drives just fine. What symptom did you have other than the ABC warning message, did you have a corner dropping on the car? Are there level sensors in the other struts too please?

    • @MikesMercsandothercars
      @MikesMercsandothercars  Рік тому

      Thanks for your comment. Sagging on one corner is usually a sign of a problem with your valve block. I assume the car levels up when turned on and when you are driving, but sags after a day or two of being parked? If those are your symptoms it’s time to replace the rubber gaskets in the valve block……and probably the hydraulic fluid too. Sagging on one or two corners won’t trigger any dash warning whereas problems with the strut sensors or level sensors will. Mike

      Thanks for your comment. Are you asking this because you are getting an error on the dash...or your roof wont close? What are the exact symptoms of the issue? There is a 'roof locked limit switch' on either side of the roof (S/91/2 and S/91/3) and an additional roof limit switch (S91/1) above drivers seat for a RHD UK car.
      The following 'Vario Roof diagnostic aid 'sets out the location of the switches:

      @@tonymontana4349 Hello - You may need to reset your roll bar. Try these things:
      1. Disconnect consumer battery in the rear and leave it disconnected for 5 minutes to allow various modules to shut down. Sometimes that will reset the roll bar.
      2. If that doesn't work, try pressing and holding down the roll bar "up" button for 10 seconds until you hear an audible click. That resets the roll bar mechanism. You might have to try this a couple of times.

      On the Autel, you should be able to do a proper ABC fluid flush eg RODEO to warm up fluid and then moving each strut manually to drain fluid into a bucket.
      As mentioned, I had a problem trying do height calibration on the AUTEL. Although you SHOULD be able to do it, I kept getting an error. Using exactly the same process on STAR - no problems...which led me to believe there is an obscure software bug in AUTEL for my model of car.
