HATERS WILL SAY IT'S FAKE 👀 NO PRODUCT CURLY HAIR ROUTINE CHALLENGE

- No product curly hair routine challenge! I had a lot of people saying my hair was only curly due to the numerous curl enhanving products I was using! So let's come up with a routine that doesn't use any curl gel, curl cream, or mousse etc! This routine was intended to have as much curl definition as possible without curl enhancing products, so I will be using nothing but coconut oil, my brush and a hairdryer. There will probably be people saying my hair only curls because of the brush and the hairdryer 🙄 but the brush can't do much unless your hair is already curly, and the dryer literally just dries my hair, I didn't use any special technique, I just didn't want to have wet hair all night...

Idk why ppl say your hair wouldn't b curly without products. If ur hair wasn't curly products won't make it curl. Products are meant to enhance, hold and define the curls that are there. I just can't 😭
Exactly! Otherwise nobody would need curling irons. Or even straighteners, bc we could all just use straightening hair products to get the sane result as using a straighteners...
I can feel u girl
bruh this is just some dumb people duh 🙄😂
I don’t understand Curly Karens’ logic. If someone with straight hair used curly products and diffused their hair, it would still be straight! That stuff only works if your hair is already curly.
Tell me about it! I always wanted large curls, but until recently my hair has always been stick straight. I tried some of the curly products and routines and guess what! My hair is still straight with a slight wave. It hasn't changed a lick. You are what you are.
True. Before hormones gave me curls, I had thick, stick-straight hair. Blasting it with sprays and curling irons lasted less than an hour. Even chemical perms 🤦♀️ were shot after a few weeks at max.
Curly karens! Lmao
So what these people are saying, is that if you have pin straight hair, and you use curly products, you will get curly 3B C hair like yours? COVID took away taste, smell and intelligence! 😂
lmao
Lmao 😂
Omg lollllllllll
Ash Chinda 😂😂😂😩
I put my Camille rose coconut water leave in and curl jelly on my sister straight hair, and guess what, no curls or even a wave appeared.😂 Her hair remained straight as a ruler
i don't understand how people think that curl enhancing products are responsible for curly hair. If someone with naturally straight hair were to apply a curl cream or something to their hair, i highly doubt it would start curling.
Exactly
Yeah, people who have natural curly hair won't ever think that curly hairs curls because of whatever product... It's easier a person who has wave hairs think this way, because of the struggle they might have to make their hairs curl...
Usually it makes there hair greasy because curly hair is naturally drier
I have cut hair I tried my products on my straight hair sister and it proved that curly products don't curl hair because she still had straight hair
That would surely be some magic stuff!
As someone who recently bleached their hair and lost every damn curl... I can assure you that no products and no amount of finger coiling or techniques are gonna even put a wave into straight hair.
But if you had curls you can nourish them do protein treatments every two weeks and when you do them but a microwaved towel over for it to really get in because bleached hair looses fibers that’s what protein will give you back plus please do also moisture treatments it will help you 😌🥰
BTW if you have any questions I’m here to help
@@mariellegomez5089 so heat in not good for your hair. I would recommend searching on UA-cam for a deep moisturizing mask since you said your hair is brittle and actually everything that I wrote in the top comment is also good for you cause if it’s brittle and stringy it will need more fibers so looking for protein treatments will help you too just look that you don’t use too much treatments maybe once or twice a month if you have other questions you can write me on Instagram it’s public
@niribee
@@mariellegomez5089 i dont think you should use things that the sun can hit ur head harder with like let’s say coconut oil I thinkk the sun would burn the top of ur head😂
@@niribee4126 if you have bleached your hair to the point of the curls vanishing (which I've done years ago)... no treatment but chopping it off is gonna save your hair.
@@mariellegomez5089 you can watch mane's by Mell videos its very helpful and for the moisture / protein part check this video

If I didn't put any styling products on my hair it would turn out like this:☁️ super undefined😂
Sameee
Relatable
same
Same puffy af 😂😂
I remember when I was younger growing up with my white mom ( who has straight hair ) I didn't use product in my hair and people use to bully in school telling me to brush my hair calling it nappy bc my hair was pufffy and not defined
@@yuhbuddy8866 the black girls called me the nappy headed girl. One asked me if I was sure I wasn’t black 😂
8:16 * thinks about throwing away all her styling products *
#Same 😂😂
Same here, I’m thinking about trying it on my next washday but my curls are tighter so I’m not sure if it will look as nice 🤧😂
That “podcast” on Instagram also attacked me and screamed really awful stuff to me when I came in with a respectable comment on this odd curly gatekeeping. Truly I think this whole drama is just a small group of people projecting out of jealousy and self hatred. The rest of us, the real curl community, knows that curls are on a spectrum and we uplift ALL curl types
I agree, I saw them too. Disgusting person with some serious problems.
If your hair is straight doesn't matter how much curl products you use it's never gonna curl. These ppl are so boldface I swear 🙄🙄
Products don't Magically make curls wish more people could understand that
Scrunching, however can create curls on straight hair (stylist here)
@@aradiavenus what kind of straight hair is that? 1 types are veeeeeeeery hard to curl, not even small waves without heating.
@@josi_o yeah, i have friends with straight hair who will spend hours with a curling wand curling and pinning them up immediately only for them to fall out within an hour. You can make straight hair curly sure. But they will fall out real quick
For my hair, it will just be frizzy but with curls, just not perfect curls, now the products is what helps the curls look mor defined
@@aradiavenus maybe yeah it will create waves with gel but it will not stay like that for long
I doubt it will be ringlets
Everyone on here saying “my hair is a mess without product”, you probably need more moisture for a while and be a bit more gentle with it for a while since it’s prolly damaged. Hydrated curly hair will typically create nice curls regardless of the products
Actually if you're high porosity and 3c ish, you get moisturized fluff. You can probably see semblance of curls somewhere in there
@@Icyjessy1 what should we do with such kinda hair types
@@user-bk9xs3hy7y well if my hair is molded into a shape, it can become smooth. I mean like wash and goes with strong gels, twist outs wet styles. But not to leave it to itself
@@Icyjessy1 Oh! Okay, thank you
Not n3cessarily. Many people have non uniform curl patterns...like a range. But all in the same place..... product helps even out the lack of uniformity
Gurl, I know your struggle. People always get the wrong impression that my hair only curls up when I use a shit ton of product when in actual fact, it only helps combat frizz and enhance the curls
Im not shocked, I rarely use styling products because I have more curl definition without them. I stopped using products over a year ago
Same. I usually use spray leave in or nothing at all. I get 3 days outta of 3b curls.
But I still try to use gels or mousse for the hold. So I can go longer. However it makes my curls 3a wonky and/or dry the next day.
Same. Just leave in. Gel or curl cream makes it feel so dirty.
What do you use in /out the shower for your basic hair health? Love the idea of few products, just haven't figured out which is the minimum to still keep the hair integrity.
You must be 3 typed then
@@LambVan I deep condition weekly, protein treatment once a month. If I go all week without washing ny hair I’ll use a light leave in and some water to refreshen my curls.
i dont feel ashamed of my curly hair anymore because of you! i love my hair now and try to take care of it 😌
You have such a beautiful hair with or without the curl products, and you are so pretty, don't listen to the haters. I absolutely love your videos. I always look forward to them.
I've been doing this for the past year too, and I find the oils way better for my curls. The only thing to be careful is when you're about to go to sleep, remember to cover it up else you might get oil residue on your pillows lol. I mix a bunch of oils - coconut, castor, olive, lavender and peppermint. Smells awesome!
The curly karens going to say this doesnt count because you used a diffuser and twirled your brush😂😂
sHe UsEd WaTeR! 💁♀️
this was so cute awww. BABY LANA HAS MY WHOLE HEART ♥
People get confused by curly hair products. They are called this way because they are made for curly hair, since other hair care products that usually are made for straight hair don't work for curls, not to creat curls.
Wow I didn't expect the result to look so good 😍 At the end of the day your hair is curly with or without product
Your hair is so pretty!! I just have naturally have wavy hair and would die for you’re pretty curls ❤️❤️❤️❤️
When you seem to have it all you get a lot of hate! Love how you embrace and transmute that 🙌 keep killin em queen 👌💖
Girlll your hair is so healthy because of how you have been taking care of it that’s why it looks so good 🤩🤩🤩 also the denman brush for sure helped so much. Your hair is so beautiful 😍🤩🥰
Your hair without styling products is the type of hair I’m striving for let alone your hair with styling products 😍
I think it’s good to do a no product check in with your hair every now and again to see if it’s doing well, what does it need more of what does it need less of etc. you’re results turned out amazing!
omg I literally paused to read the hate comments- I don’t think they understand hair types😇
If people dont have anything nice to say.. then why dont they just keep it to themselves? like why would they intentionally hurt someone else’s feelings👀i guess we’ll never know🤷🏻♀️😂❤️
Reading them making me always laugh.. it's funny and joyful 😂
Your hair is so healthy!!! I would love to know how long it stayed soft and moisturized after only using coconut oil!
My hair hates coconut oil! 😅 As someone who is mixed and has type 3 hair, I try to acknowledge my privilege in the natural hair community BUT that doesn't mean it isn't hurtful how dismissive other naturals can be towards our hair/relationship with it. I know it's not a majority, the minority is just very loud about it & they generally are also the kind of ppl who don't see mixed people as being black so it goes hand in hand. Anyway, Thank you for this video!! Your hair looks fab && know I'm in your corner💛
My hair hates coconut oil too! I love argan oil and olive oil so much
If I do it like this again I'll try a lighter oil! My hair didn't hate it, but it was definitely weighed down and it was a struggle to get volume. I'll try argan oil ahd hopefully I'll have volume AND definition! ❤
This is my first time here. Loved thr video. Beautiful girl, beautiful curls. I think your routine is also a testament for how well you take care of your hair regularly. Healthy hair makes a difference. Im not sure this particular routine would work for my hair type, especially getting past day one, but I'm all for being a minimalist! Sometimes you just want your hair to breathe and have a break from all the products... so this working for you made me smile big! 👏🏽👏🏽
Hello fellow curlies!
Hair type 3b, going on 3.5 years without straightening. My current routine consists of tea tree shampoo and deep conditioner (sometime conditioner) once a week with only softee indian hemp to make two-strand twists.
Go Lana!!!! You shut the haters down! It’s quiet, ain’t no backtalk. Lol love you ❤
I would love to see days 2 to 4 of this routine!
I think it would be slightly freezy and tangled/hella dry
edit: I use sweet almond oil or castor oil since i am allergic to coconut oil, its lightweight and gives great hydration
Castor oil is actually SUPER thick. I only use it on my scalp on the day before washing my hair because otherwise the thickness makes my hair an oily mess
@@eliotb.1219 I use castor oil to seal in the moisture after applying shea butter on my hair, because it's heavy it keeps my hair hydrated for the 2 weeks it's in braids or twists. Try sweet almond oil, it's super light and smells amazing (plus it also softens the hair)
@@speters0623 I guess I can see that working. I usually just use it on my scalp when I know I need to shower that day or the next day, because it’s good for hair growth. Currently I use argan oil, it works really well for me, but I’m almost out so I might try the sweet almond oil and see how I feel about it
Same here
Curly Karens 😂😂 they're so annoying!! Ofc ur hair is gonna be curly, products or not! Products are enhancers, not curlers -__- grrr lol
PREACHHH
Your hair is so beautiful I LOVE IT‼️❤️
Omg! Your hair looks amazing! Blimey I'm shocked 😳🤗
Products only help define the curls😒. Your curls are beautiful. You shouldn't pay attention to those who just know how to discourage....you have your followers and we are always by your side❤️

YOUR HAIR IS PERFECTION!! 😍😍
Your hair is GOALS!!!!
i don’t understand in general how people think it’s their place to diagnose YOUR hair. 😂 like do people realize that every head of hair is ya know... different..? not all curls look and act the same.
Don’t laugh at a misconception. You probably make thousands everyday, just like all humans do.
You’re the reason why I want to go to the UK lol just to hang out with you!
LANAAAAA i love your videos!!! your hair is gorgeous and so are you😍 keep it up girl!
God loves you❤️
This is so cool! I’m definitely going to try this
Omg your hair looks so good
Imma try it now 💁🏾♀️
Omg your hair turned out soo cute!!! 😍😍😍 My hair is a frizzy mess if I don't use leave in and gel. But maybe I'll try your technique just to see what happens lol. Yes I'm looking forward to Christmas its my fav holiday
Ooooook!!! your hair looks amazing!! I remember I put a comment in another youtuber video (who has wavy hair) where I said that I don't understand how people say that products are the only reason for some people to have curls (giving the example that any hair type, including type4, use hair products for enhancing their hair), and someone was up to fight the idea...I din't fight with her, but a lot of others did and I still can't believe that happened
You are stunning and have the most beautiful hair ever!!
I sure wish i knew about curly hair techniques when i was younger because i used to let my hair air dry with nothing in it and the frizz was real.
as a curly girl who can't afford all those products I have experimented a couple of things to see what works best and I have found that homemade flaxseed gel is a miracle worker
And I have been using it in this following routine for two years now
This routine is actually simple but it might not look like it cuz it's quite detailed
Everything has a reason
(the extra steps I on the weekend or when i'm pampering myself will be in "...")
" do an oil mask and detangle with it"
"put a mask of my choice (avocado mask, banana mask...)"
"put caster oil at the roots"
Shampoo my hair
Put mask on/leave it for 3 minutes or more and do smth else(this will help the hair to soften to help with the detangeling)
Then come back to it and slowly detangle it
"put deap conditioner"
Put the flaxseed gel while in the bath (bc it's messy and this will help)
I usually make big sections and soak each one with the gel then brush thru it and move to another section
Then since I like to dry my hair upside down for volume I brush all of it upside down (in the shower too) (brush section by section upside down to avoid extra tangles)
I squeeze the extra water and gel out and put it in a bun on the top of my head
When drying it everything is upside down
I first put a towel on the floor when my hair will drip
then brush thru it all upside down ofc
Scrunch it up
"you can finger coil it at this point or also add cream or some oil"
From this on you don't touch your hair
Then start by drying the roots by hovering the diffuser on my head (don't forget the front of your hair)
After the roots you move to the rest
It's important to do this or you'll get frizz
NO touching!!!
NO scrunching with the diffuser!
Just hold it over the hair
When it's 80%or so dry that's when you do that thing with the diffuser where you scrunch with it the hair
And flip it at thus point to dry the rest of the wet spots
*how to make the flaxseed gel*
I use the measurements of 8 cups of water to 1 cup of flaxseed
Or 8 half cups of water for half cup of flaxseed
Then heat the mixture on the stove for 15 or more till it thickens
The filter it straight after
Never filter it when it's no longer warm you'll get so much trouble doing it
You can Google it for other measurements
Or find what works best for you by adding water to make it more liquidy /add more flaxseed to thicken it /the more you leave it on the stove the thicker it gets
You store it in the refrigerator or it'll go bad
Or if you want it to hold you longer than that put in the freezer
The gel has sooooooooo many benefits for the hair (look it up)
So much that you don't need any other products cuz it has the moisture, the hold and the heat protection
My hair is similar to yours but a little looser and for years I didn't use any styling products and my hair was still curly. Styling products just enhance the hair's natural texture.
What up, fellow 3b woman here! Just wanted to add that products don't only define and strengthen natural curls. Whats important is how long the hair can KEEP that definition and strength for. Products do this for longer periods than what your hair without products could by protecting you from everyday weather conditions, your hydration levels your diet, what you're doing that day etc. Etc.
My Christmas list includes satin scarf for my hair, headbands and a Denman brush! 😍
Please update us with how your hair looks in a few days! Interested to see how long the curls last without product!
I can't! I filmed a vid the very next day and did some drastic things to my hair haha x
"I have a bit of a rebellious streak" I can tell! I love your accent btw...
Lana your hair is so beautiful! I am also amazed by how well your hair looks with just coconut oil! I feel like if I do this on my 3b curls they will look dry haha. But I also don't deep condition as much :( The weather in LA has been so dry, my curls have not lasted more than four days...How many times do you deep condition or if you have any recommendation to protect the curls from dry cold weather that would help too! I love your content, continue spreading positivity on your channel and be safe ❤
Stunning! You don't need any products! 😍😍
I hate this because I’m jealous girlll!!😍😂 I could neverrrrr. Great video sis😋💕
Haha mom never used products on my hair when I was a baby, not sure how it’s so curly now 😜
This routine turned out with bomb results 😍
I gave up creams etc. a while ago. I just find my very fine hair feels soft and looks so shiny w/o all the extras. It also dries waaaay faster. The only exception is some occasional biotin leave in when necessary.
Perfect hair! But one major reason we use styling products is to create a hold and make our hair last longer. Day one is popping but what about the rest of the days?
Your hair is amazing Lana. ❤️😍 How long did this product free styling last you before you had to refresh or wash again? And how did you preserve the style at night
this is crazy, i’ve got the same coconut oil and denman brush, but abandoned for a couple years. might have to try this out thooo
Stunning! Where can I find the hair pick you used? I didn’t see it in the description of your Amazon store.
I just watched your other no product challenge literally yesterday! It made me take my braids out last night and now I'm wearing my natural. I love the big fluffy look and I hate using products... deep conditioning is it for me lol I like things low maintenance. So weird that you uploaded this today! I love it.
I think it’ll turn out very similar to your hair with product, just less defined💙
Edit: I use granite fructis sleek and shine line and kinky curly custard. But I might have to try the coconut oil😱
🤯🤯🤯🤯 my hair would NEVER look this good without product and I'm so upset about it 💔
Omg amazing result 😍 i want to try this
Omg I love this video idea!
I haven’t been styling my hair lately (because I’m lazy and in quarantine and a week away from finals lol) and with my 2c/3a hair.. oof. It’s over moisturized and flat after wash day then dry and frizzy literally the next day and anyways boi am I personally thankful for products😂 it’s awesome that you don’t need much for your hair though! It must be really healthy =) also love you and your videos you’re a big inspiration to me💗💗
Hi Lana, I find when I only use a leave in conditioner that I get very defined ringlet curls. The only problem I have not using any styling products is that I get more frizz on day 2 and 3. I have mostly 3A/3B curls.
Hii, your hair looks great even tho your hair only had coconut oil in it😊, A question. How many days did it stay good? Cause I have similar hair like yours and my hair isn't curling up that much anymore. It might be cause it is getting so much longer but maybe I would need to style it like this sometimes to give it a break from all the curl products. Do you think this would help in my situation ?
Best I’ve ever seen ur curls 👍🏾👩🏾🦱
I just love your hair it is so beautiful 😍
Love your curls😍
You hair looks amazing
Sounds very interesting to try❤
Oh my goodness! I did a similar video on my channel and i was shocked at how much definition i still had without product!!
aaa it was so sad to see u separate the tight big rolls 🥺 i love how ur hair turned out ♥
I think it will look lovely it always does
I’m basing my prediction on my own hair. I have 2a hair and during quarantine I decided to not bother with products. I let my hair air dry without touching it (I just read for a few hours and held my head still) and it looked exactly like it does when it’s full of creams and gels, just without the shiny cast (I even have a few ringlets around my face). When I fluff it afterwards it’s a bit frizzier, and after sleeping on it it’s a lot frizzier. But all in all, I would assume that your hair will look almost the same, just a touch less shiny.
Your hair looks amazing with no product!!!! #hairgoals. Curious to know how long your curls held up with no product. Lots of love from South Africa✌️💕
YO you gotta tell us how long your hair lasted, and you look amazing!
I filmed another video the next day and changed my hair up, so I didn't get to see how it lasted!
I’m definitely interested in this as well. Like using a pea size of oil and some water to refresh the next day kind of thing. I need to know. Video idea for sure! Please 😁
I don’t think my high porosity hair would last without a gel or something to seal the cuticle.
@@LanaSummer Have you considered doing this routine again with a few days follow up? I'm super curious!!
Like does it look amazing the first day, but then get frizzy/ lose definition quicker than if u had more products helping maintain the curls?
Lana do you use warm or cool water on your hair? They say warm is good for low porosity but then ppl say cool is good to combat frizz
Haters only hating because they don't have the gorgeous natural curls that you have!! You are a beautiful queen!!😁😁 You and your curls keep living your best life!!😘😘
You've got me curious about my own hair, but I braid out all the time so my curls aren't used to putting in work. My head is 3 a/b/c maybe a bit of 4a at the crown of my head I've always had a weird patch of extra curly hair there.
I can’t be the only one who sees a little bit of Kim K in her face!? Love ur hair! Xoxo
Your hair is beautiful!! Anyone else have 2c hair but that bottom bit at the back of their head that's pin straight? HELP!
I have 2c/3a hair (i think? im still in transition to my natural curly hair) and I usually use hair cream and coconut oil after I wash it, I have noticed that the oil is the one that gives me more hold/definition to my curls but I thought I was crazy sdjdkdj it's really nice to see it happens to others! also u are so pretty and i love ur videos💞
I kinda want to do this. How long did your hair last before you just HAD to have a refresh?
Impressive !!!!! Okayyyy curly hair for cheap !!! Yesss lol 💕💜💕💜💕
I have curly hair. I used to straighten it and do all kinds of stuff to it. I started Curly Girl about 18 months ago. I stopped doing a lot of that stuff to my hair. My hair is much curlier now than when I started because I stopped doing all that stuff.
I think my hair took that long to find “itself”. All the products have helped my hair become healthier. I can go 1-2 washes without adding any of the gels, mousses, etc. where at first I could not do that. However, after one or two washes my hair starts to get frizzy again. I do hope you’ll be able to keep your beautiful hair without using the products but don’t be surprised if your hair starts to get frizzy and you need to go back to using some of those products. Sorry that you’ve had so many haters. In my opinion, they’re just jealous! FYI, I use much less product than I did at first. Merry Christmas!
Even when her hair is wet it’s still curly, I don’t understand why people are so adamant on curly hair gate keeping ?! 😂
Exactly but the products are here just to rehance the curls
My guess is that your hair will be a little frizzier and matter and the curls are gonna be less clumped and little looser
I’m guessing It’s because after all this extra treatment your hair eventually will be near 100% healthy which will encourage this.
So keep taking your curly hair routines seriously girlies and maybe this can be possible
YESSSSSSS LOVE IT ❤❤
the downside of online platforms being more crowded with curly hair routines, awesome info videos and just all round people embracing curly hair, is that of course in this day and age, everything needs to be judged, talked down on, crushed and hated on.
I always do this to my hair Ijust leave in my rinse out conditioner no product just let it dry and scrunch in some oil
Hey! Loved the results! Is this something that you recommend doing all the time / in place of regular styling with curly hair products?
If you want to experiment with it you can. I know I've be using only olive oil in my hair. The curls are there, but I saw another UA-camr say that their hair started getting curlier after they spent 3 months without other hair products. I definitely know doing this can reduce product build up and can even help scalp issues. I'd say go for it😁
