    Glad this is sorted out and hope you can get some restitution. Looking forward to getting my 4.7 magnacut in the near future (keeping fingers crossed it comes before the end of the year) now that this is out of the way. Put this behind you and focus on delivering the goods henceforth.

    Excellent to hear Guy!
    Even though many are talking sh!t about you, Survive! and your processes - know that there are many of us who stand with you, especially those of us who have your knives (I have 3)! 😊

    @Surviveknives: When NSM said it was a problem in the melting process, what does that mean? Is it their fault, CPM's fault, or a combination of both?

    • @Surviveknives
      @Surviveknives  2 місяці тому +13

      At Niagara, what they do is roll already produced material down into thinner and smaller pieces. What he is expressing is a quality issue with the billets he would be receiving from Crucible to work with. I believe he is finally done denying the issue and has instead decided to just open up, probably to let everyone know it isn't his company's fault. They are the exclusive hot roller of CPM materials, so I do know they are probably in a somewhat tricky position sometimes.

    Are you still going to be fulfilling preorders that were placed in magnacut? I have one for the EDC-4 and am wondering what kind of timeframe to expect on getting that or if that is even realistic. If not would I need to change it to another steel?

    • @Surviveknives
      @Surviveknives  2 місяці тому +3

      Yes, we are actually a lot closer on most of that than you might think. The larger issue for us as a small business is these sort of decisions from larger companies mess up our momentum. Mishandling a seemingly minor issue for a large corporation can outright bankrupt a small business. I wish we had made it back to the east coast just a few months earlier, we could have avoided most or all of this I think. Oh well, we are here now and getting into better and better relationships moving forward! I'm choosing to see these as the valuable lessons they are.

    So what happens with the knives we ordered a year ago?

    • @Surviveknives
      @Surviveknives  2 місяці тому +1

      We are still making and delivering them. Some of these issues that were shoveled into our lap have made that more difficult but we are getting it squared away.

    Is there something wrong with magnacut itself? Wouldn't other steels have these issues if it was due to faulty processing?

    • @Surviveknives
      @Surviveknives  2 місяці тому +2

      There is still the issue of the contamination/voids I am seeing in parts I've been processing. I'm really hoping new sheets are going to yield less of that. ua-cam.com/video/UE5uxPpxSMo/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

    Well done sir. We've been following along for the duration. So my question to you is, those of us that have been waiting for the 4.5s and 5.1s in magnacut. Should we opt for one of the other blades, b still be sending these out in first quality at some point. Thanks in advance.

    • @Surviveknives
      @Surviveknives  2 місяці тому +3

      We are getting everything delivered, to the high standard promised. For regular production, we will also maintain some diversity across a few brands of steel, just to better insulate ourselves. I do understand that shit happens, especially in manufacturing, but some of these things we've had to deal with seem down right negligent. Especially the Magnacut decarburizing, that was 110% avoidable with just a little bit of thought.

    I love you, man. Nobody else would put everything on UA-cam, discuss the issues, go through the processes, touring of your facilities, detailing the defects and voids, and so on. You have been up front and honest with all of your vids (I've seen em all). Thank you for the disclosures, man. You'll always have a customer in me. You produce and demand the best possible product, and that's important to many of us. Keep your head up, and keep up the great work.

    • @Surviveknives
      @Surviveknives  2 місяці тому +4

      A few smaller companies and makers have reached out and expressed some issues and concerns, but I don't think any larger company would openly admit anything like this. This has hurt our small business, I can't imagine what kind of pivot a large business would have to do if they ever went public with something they've already invested hundreds of thousands or millions of dollars in.

      I toured that shop years back, unless something has changed, I'm good on that. They offer consistency, but there are some definite limitations in their capabilities. One of the two new shops we are checking out is definitely going to work just fine for our needs. Both have done at least some knives and both do a lot of crazy aerospace work, so they are used to handling jobs carefully.

    Soo … could we get an estimate on when you might finished all the 5.1s finished ??? What percentage of them have you finished ?
    I’ve sent 23 text messages , called 50 plus times , plus countless emails……. Any response would be nice ….. getting completely blown off by you guys is pretty shitty .
    We all have problems …

    • @Surviveknives
      @Surviveknives  2 місяці тому +9

      I do apologize for the poor communication, but please know that you are not being blown off, we are just overwhelmed here with work and recovering from these situations. I understand that we all have problems, but I would also encourage you to not minimize the scale and gravity of some of these issues. My goal is to make sure that everyone gets exactly what they ordered, that's what I've been working toward and focusing on. I apologize if that has been perceived as anything else. There have been many days where I've had to stare down the barrel of impossible decisions and just do the best I can with resources available to me, while planning on how to get to a better tomorrow. The decarburizing loss and delays should have bankrupted us outright, yet we are still here fighting and pressing forward. We will be shortly closing the books on several other models, which will streamline getting the last of any GSO-5.1 backlog wrapped up. We will keep the production updates coming, the progress has been absolutely phenomenal recently.

    • @Surviveknives
      @Surviveknives  2 місяці тому +10

      A few smaller shops have stopped using it, but the larger companies will go with what an excited market wants. We will keep using it on a limited basis, but we are going to be doing it our way from here on out. I have learned enough information now in dealing with these last few situations that we should be good moving forward. I'm glad that we hung in there and I did not sign an NDA. Now we can still talk about these things and help the community improve.

    So it’s safe to say my Pikal & 4.5 VSK I ordered in Magnacut won’t be in Magnacut because of the size/form factor versus the size of the Defects. Perfectly fine by me if that’s the case just as long as it’s the quality I’ve come to expect and you expect out of your knives I’m not as picky about the metals.
    Thanks to sticking to your morals and principles, keep up the great Stuff & God Bless!

    Guy, I'm glad this is getting sorted out and it was obvious from the beginning that the issues you were having with defects were with the CPM Magnacut material and not you’re processing. I have an academic and practical background in machining and metallurgy and I can easily see who is responsible for these defects. I also own one of the same mentioned Bark River Buschcraft Scouts models that DBK had break in the jimping on them. Mine is now used as a paring knife. The DBK photo also made it quite clear it’s a material QC issue very similar to what you have experienced. That DBK event combined with your multiple material issues and back log on your knifes, I made a change to my original order that I had placed Sep 2022 from A Magnacut GSO 5.1 to a a GSO-4.5 Bushcraft in Scandi: Böhler K890. K890 is impressive with a zero grind edge. That early video you did also with that scandi on purple heart was impressive ,as well as the current You Tube video on the same knife made by your new associate. My only issue now, is when can I expect my order #17751 to be fulfilled? ?? Being a prepaid customer for now past 18 months is not acceptable. Can I get an honest and serious update on my order please?

    • @Surviveknives
      @Surviveknives  2 місяці тому +2

      I owe you a better response than this, but I am currently grinding. Those are wrapping up production right now, sheath production is about to start. We already have hundreds more GSO-4.5 bushcraft, and soon GSO-4.5 standard blades, machined and ready to go to heat treat now.

      For this particular issue, I did not sign an NDA. For what I would like to talk about regarding Peters Heat Treating and the massive amount of Magnacut decarburizing that happened at their facility last year, I just need to be more careful in how I talk about it. After this whole situation, I feel up for the challenge. 😜

      Going public hasn't been an easy journey, and I knew it would cause troubles for my small business, but at the end of the day, this was important. If I get to a point where I've compromised so much to protect financial interests ahead of all else, or I get to a place that I can't believe in my own product, I don't want to be doing this anyway. I just want to make nice stuff and provide genuine value to the world around me for the short time I'm here.

    In this case it’s the consumer believing their own hype. Mistakes happen in the manufacturing of a product, especially a new one. The mill should have corrected the issue rather than deny deny deny and then litigation. It’s a sad world where the big company chooses to try and put litigate a small one while pushing a less than perfect material down their pipeline. Glad the results finally speak for themselves on this. It looked obvious from day one. Working knives there was no way some of defects could have been made in any other way but during material roll or melt. It’s impossible to get any tooling to make marks like that in most cases. Plus tooling marks or process is repeatable and not random defects

    Never doubted that you were in the right.
    Its heartbreaking to see, small businesses and makers htat care about heir costumers and what they make beign treated like this.
    Choosing to support resellers with great costumers support is a great move, as you build relations with good people that do good work.
    II always though that Magnacut knives were expensive because the material is expensive, now its kinda clear that defects play a big role in that.
    In retrospecitve it was one huge scum movie to try to buy your silence or try and threaten you. How can you trust a product from a company that lacks so much transparancy and ownership?
