This dotara instrument is used in Bhavaiya, a famous folk form of North Bengal. And the instrument of the Bauls is probably Ektara. Although my knowledge about musical instruments is very limited.

यदि इसके २ तार सा और २ तार प में tuned होते हैं, तो फिर इसमें एक ही सप्तक बजाया जा सकता है?
Eg In Indian violin, we tune मंद्र सा, मंद्र प, मध्य सा and the last 4th string in मध्य प

It is called dotara because it can play all the notes of one octave with the help of two strings. Sa, pa, with ma and only sa, pa not.
