  • Hey everybody, I got some heat sinks over here that we were taking a look at. Before I get into it let me tell you the background, we had a laptop come in and it was over heating, we would turn it on and immediately on startup it would hit 100 degrees, we did all the basics reapply the thermal paste make sure it was all ok and still overheating, we came to a conclusion that it was the heatsink, so we go ahead and order a new heatsink and the same thing happened. We did more research and this was apparent with this model and it was a very common problem so we ordered a brand new heatsink, and that one worked perfectly and the pc was not overheating anymore, so we opened up to bad heatsink and we found a weird black residue on the inside, looked like corrosion or something, after opening up other heatsinks and comparing them, we saw that it was faulty, so can a heatsink which is a piece of metal that transfers heat go bad? Yes, it can. And that’s what’s going on today at PC911.

Exactly it can go bad, especially for laptops. They do this on purpose because the manufacturers want the customers and the computer repair shops to think that the laptops cannot be used properly after a couple of years and want the customers to buy news ones instead. In every business this is a dirty trick actually, for example, siemens do the same for their trams which are sold to turkey, we realized they use especially, bolts which are not durable, for some engine parts which is also highly dangerous. By the way i also saved my 2 laptops by just installing new heatsinks.

Wow! I have changed Motherboard and Cpu of my Dell inspiron 15r n5010 and changed thermal paste, cleaned the fan a thousand time and still the laptop gets shutdown if cpu usage goes up and temp gets to constant 70-80-90c.
so the heatsink is the culprit here.

Copper tube you talk about is NOT just a piece of metal. I'm supprized that a guy who repairs PC, has no basic knowledge how such device works. I guess that you most likely never heard about something like thermodynamics.

No, but please educate us. I didn't see anything on your channel.

@@PC911Miami Google doesn't work on your PC ? Can't you just write the question "how a heat pipe works" ?
