This is the video is the reason I iwn at least $1,000 in Celox patches, granules, packing & a multitude of other clotting agents, a "medical stapler, My aunt's a nurse and I bugged her every holiday we visited untill she brought me downstairs and showd me this rubber arm thing that has different levels of bleeding (it like a adult vsersonnof doctor with just a realistic arm where I learned how to stitch amd where she gave me this what she called a medical stapler (looks like a regular old silver stapler to Me).
This is when I was planning on becoming a medic. Good skills to have and I've learned so much more from these videos. Such a great channel.

Hey SkinnyMedic, over here in Germany Celox or QuikClot is pretty expensive because it has to be imported and I can't find a German or European-made alternative. I read that most haemostatic agents are based on kaolin. Kaolin is cheaply available here, would you advise to sprinkle kaolin inside wounds? Maybe pack a wound with regular gauze while sprinkling it with kaolin? Or are there strong arguments against putting loose kaolin powder in deep wounds?

I've seen this in action it works. Now I take meds for the heart that mess me up, bruising, thin skin, tears off like a band-aid, and will not stop bleeding in less than 10min. I have used quick clot on those areas works, then wrap it and go back to work. I carry a packet in my lunch box , my question is : how long can the stuff work after opening the bag? mine is 3 mo. old now used it 4x and seems to be fine, is it going to absorb bugs or infectious crap into the wound. Yes get some blood work and get the meds leveled out, work is insurance, no work no insurance.I like your videos, AAR are my favorites.

I have a questions I was hoping someone could answer:
Let's say I'm in a scenario where I cannot get to a doctor/hospital after I stopped the bleeding using Celox. I'm either out hiking god knows where or it's a complete SHTF scenario (No, I'm not that stupid I would ever go hiking that far without a backup, just imagine).
How will I treat the wound after that? Will the granules get dissolved by the body as it heals? Do I need to clean it out before stitching everything back together? I have no medical experience in this field so I would never attempt it, but I'm interested in the aftermath.

According to the manufacturer, you can wash it out. Obviously best done in a sterile environment! It seems to be pretty "safe" and easy to use with very few warnings associated. www.celoxmedical.com for more info. Caveat: I'm not a medic and I've never used it.

    • @gunlover5564

I can tell you as a paramedic that the primary goal is to stop the bleed. The other guys said “get to a hospital” but you clearly said what if they isn’t an immediate choice. If it’s bad enough, keep it covered. Don’t ever take the pressure dressing off, especially if it’s an arterial bleed because then you will Potentiate the clotting process, and even then expose the wound to bacteria causing an infection then you will be up shit creek. All I can say is that if you’re out alone and have no medical supplies at all And you’re using this for the scenario and if it’s a heavy bleed, then put this on with direct pressure with multiple 4x4 gauze and killing gauze. If it continues to bleed, rip your shirt, find a sticky and create a tourniquet tight enough to just stop the bleed. Even if the gauze is covered in blood do NOT remove it. Just keep adding more gauze and hopefully that will stop the bleeding enough for you to find help.

may I ask what would be the best thing to use - nat gauze , some non-woven pads, bloostopper ''cederroth'' or hemostatic pads (not hemostatic gauze) - to apply direct pressure to control bleeding? Minor bleeding. I guess for a major bleeding we either pack a wound and then wrap it with the israeli bandage or apply a hemostatic gauze and wrap it with a bandage (any bandage I suspect) or as a last resort tourniquet. I mean... for a not so serious laceration, I am sure we need something non-adherent and sterile and smth that has absorbent properties. And smth that is not very thin. Are the options Ive outlined above reasonable or there are way better options? Thank You so much.

SM, one question, they say celox is dangerous in case of direct eye contact, is that true ? it is said it burns, not sure if such a thing is true, I appreciate your info about this. Thanks!!

    • @neatpete2240
      @neatpete2240 7 років тому +4

To your question: If it comes in contact with your eyes it will bind the water on it and also some of the tear liquid following on a drying eye. That's what causes the burning and also can damage the eye.
Why: Celox works on a physical basis. It is based on chitosan, a polymer obtained from crab shell. The polymer is able to bind large amounts of water and entangle among themselves. This entanglement forms a strong network leaving behind a gel clot which stops the bleeding.
Some more information about gel networks: There are physical and chemical networks. Physical networks like chitosan gain their strength from entanglement of the single polymer chains. No chemical bonds are created and therefore no heat generated. Chemical networks are created by reactions that connect the polymer chains resulting in a gel. Often these reactions are exothermic, meaning they generate heat and could potentially damage tissue.

It sticks to tissue and needs to be removed surgically, its only temporary aid.

Yes they will remove it ... some of it may absorb into the blood stream and be used by the body ... it makes it a simple sugar

Then the wound can be irrigated and closed? That's what I'm hoping for (if there's no doctor or nurse practitioner available.

I am a former combat medic and I am selling IFAK kits now and I am using this product instead of quick clot in my kits.

Why is it not ideal to use on chest or stomach?

Have you tried Stops bleeding ? You should do a review on the product it's available at Walmart

On deep deep cuts like that, assuming you are days or weeks away from help like hiking in the middle of nowhere, do you leave wound open or try and close it like a shallow cut once bleeding stops?

    What about cayenne pepper?
So is a tourniquet preferable to the powder? If someone can't get to a hospital for a long time wouldn't it be better to use the coagulant so maybe the limb still gets some blood/oxygen?

waypasthadenough he said in another video that people can go hours with a tourniquet on. So there's a bit more to think about. If you're like two hours away, I would imagine a tourniquet would be better if possible. This stuff is basically just for when you can't apply a tourniquet.

waypasthadenough Tourniquet is better if you can fit it to the area. Quick clot will do the trick, but it also damages good tissue.

Hemostatics dont really cause direct damage to tissue.
Its removal most often does, and lack of blood in extremities.
It all depends on situation whats smartest move to make.

cayenne pepper is good for minor bleeding ... you can put a TQ on and the come back with a coagulant and pressure bandage if the transport is longer than a few hours

Would this be safe to use on hemophiliacs? If so, is it proven to be effective with hemophiliacs?

Great info just wondering. I bought the 5 packets kits of celox with 2 grams in each package. How many packets should I put into a wound? BTW I also have two clotting bandages , two CAT tourniquets, and Israeli bandage in my CERT kit along with other gauzes and dressings.

Thank you for the video. How well does this work when you have a severed and retracted major artery? Say a femoral that has pulled up an inch or two from the wound that is too high up for a tourniquet.

If it's a severe enough injury to need celox would providing pressure in a more direct area? Say a laceration, applying pressure on the internal parts and holding whatever artery down?
    Genuine question, nice video :)
