People questioning the Snow in Indonesia.... There is a reason why this scene has snow and no others do. Gareth Evans said the reason this fight is in the snow is because blood looks beautiful in snow. That's literally the only reasons. It's an artistic flourish.

Based on what I know of these movies, you really feel for Prakoso in this scene. You can tell he's sad and wistful--even though Ruhian insists he's not an actor--but he's also determined not to just lie down and die. I tend to agree that the Assassin respected his drive to meet his death on his feet and gave him a quick death out of respect.

This fight exhibited a lot of principals from Musashi's Book of Five Rings. The way Prakoso created distance to not allow himself to be overwhelmed. Keeping the goons confused by throwing things and creating obstacles. Also the nod to Ip Man was pretty cool as well. The fact that he developped super armor after being stabbed was insane. I think he probably could give Assassin problems if he was full health. I really wish we could have gotten a full health Prakoso vs Assassin, that would have probably been fight scene of the decade.

There is a difference between giving up and accepting the inevitability of defeat.

Yes, he was very good in keeping the distance...
Once someone actually managed to pass his defence, he went completely crazy and became an open target for everybody. He didn't flow like water or his timing didn't burn like fire.
Book of Five Rings is also way too religious, esoteric and philosophical to fit in the frenzy of this scene, which is literally loaded with unnecessary things.

  • @TibiConstantine

He was ambushed for a reason guys. Probably could have taken out baseball guy, hammer girl and the assassin fighting them all at once. I like it how the Assassin toys with Rama but fears Prakoso. So much attention to details in this movie. If this film isn't a masterpiece I don't know what is. It has a good undercover cop story, jaw-breaking and brutal martial arts fights, deals with betrayals in mobster families, has a cool car chase, prison fights and so on...Probabil the best fight sequence I have ever seen in an action movie: the kitchen fight.

    • @Gigas0101
      @Gigas0101 11 місяців тому +8

He was ambushed for a good reason, to show how the boss's son was incompetent, unfit to take over. My big takeaway from this was that Bangun probably had a deal in place with Prakoso, and probably would've let him walk away. Uco wastes a ton of men to take out someone with an intimidating reputation but who probably wouldn't have been a threat. It highlights how Bangun's son is nowhere near ready to inherit his operations, while also setting up his top Henchman to get the audience hyped up for the Assassin vs Rama showdown at the finale.

It's a stretch but... anyways Rama was the protagonist, they couldn't just kill him off before Prakoso's fight. It's interesting that we always belittle Hollywood and it's "shaky cam" addiction, then praise Bollywood and Asia for eschewing it, but look here.
The camera is VERY rarely stock still.
But it occurred to me, watching other fights in the movie:
The CAMERA was being manipulated to represent the EMOTION of the moment, exactly like music.
It's not just big sloppy shakes meant to hide C- talent. It's tiny, jittery shakes when the subject is scared or nervous. It's shakes that go one way, then the other, when the subject looses, then regains, the upper hand in a fight. It's a view that spins upside down with someone thrown through a window, righting itself as they do, to carry us into and through the impossible to describe confusion of BEING thrown through a window.
God. These movies. Cinematography as effective element of a scene as a soundtrack, or the characters themselves.
Also, if the movie has a single flaw, it's doing characters dirty for no reason. The first 5 minutes should NEVER have happened the way it did, and likewise here, it feels as if the writers have just decided they don't have any use for a character anymore, and they suddenly go from being incredibly tough survivors to utter jobbers.
It under cuts the capacity for emotional attachment, knowing any character can suddenly get got for absolutely no reason beyond "So the movie can happen."

Thats why Bejo killed Andy because hes getting over the line here.

Let's be honest if he didn't just fight 1,000 mofos this assassin guy wouldn't find it as easy
I want to see an alternated fighting scene against them too.
