He has intelligent lyrics, a gorgeous voice, and melodies that go strange and wonderful places and take my heart with them. Saw him play near Wash DC recently and my brother (straight) fell in love with him! Lord, he was gorgeous all over!
When I first this song I was SO confused (I usually am with Rufus songs). I knew there was something to do with "Hansel and Gretel" and possibly "Alice in the Looking Glass" (the mirrored lines) but I had to be told the big black forest was Rufus' doubting heart. Not that I'm sure that's true. Listen, I'm 67 and have taught journalism 45 years and here I am trying like a 7th grader to parse Rufus. He has taught me a lot!
I think it's a little lame that they would cut the song off for the host to say goodbye! If anything just let him play through to the end, and if they have to abruptly cut to the next tv show before the song ends when it airs on television so be it, but at least give the man his sound!
