- Jonathan Stout really knows how to play these beautiful arch top guitars! Here's Jonathan playing our Epiphone Emperor here at #NormansRareGuitars! What do you guys think?
As a fellow jazz guy, Jonathan is one of my personal favorite players that comes in to Norm's. He is truly an inspiration and Norm always seems to have some incredible arch tops for him to play on. I can dig it!
That guitar, that guitar!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'ts pure gold.
greetings from Oaxaca, México
such an incredible smart and humble guitar player
Incredible guitar playing!!
The bow tie is a striking reminder of how the line between super hip and complete dork is a very thin one indeed.
LOVE the sound of these old acoustic archtops!
Finally good stuff,, thanks to this chanel i learned about acoustic f holes archtop guitars, I play different due the videos of you upload. Thanks Norm.
Love his style ! Sounds so good !!!
Looking forward to the All Guitar Network 👍
Mr. Stout is one of the very best, and he doesn't waste notes...brilliant guitar playing!
Fantastic playing! And love the Emperor, too.
Awesome 😎 all around!!
Good on ya, Norm! Way to explore the guitar genres!
This is the stuff I come to America to see and hear! What a celebration of Music your country has to offer, and even the antique guitar shops are a worthwhile focus for a whole holiday there! Maybe you could get rid of your congress, and install a big jazz band instead eh???? Love you guys!!!
This is a VERY good video,I have a good friend that plays and sings this kind of tunes,I love it,THANKS!!!
very cool
I LOVE CASES WITH STUFF
Beautiful instrument - really nicely played.
Love that guitar. I played an Emperor at a GC once... damn that thing was nice. Would love to have one!
David Lee Roth's Eat'em & Smile tour was my first concert. This week I've a ticket to Roger Waters at the same venue as was DLR.
Jonathan Stout is one of the best and most versatile pre-bop jazz guitarists around. He can do it all: Allan Reuss-style chord melody, Charlie Christian solos, wonderful 4-to-the-bar rhythm guitar, gypsy swing…. He’s putting out great records with Campus Five, solo, and as sideman (e.g. Keenan McKenzie, Forged in Rhythm). He is also one of the most generous in sharing his vast knowledge and insights in fora and his blog (www.campusfive.com/swingguitarblog). Go Jon go!
I like playing old blues and jazz from the 20s and 30s.
MELODIC SMOOTH MUSICAL VOICING STUFF HERE ~ GOOD STUFF JONATHAN ~ CARLOS GUITARLOS 90042 USA
Got same guitar and the zephyr regent with a cut sound board that had and still does a acrylic bobbin p 90
I stuff it with old socks and pillow foam and run it through a Gibson ga 77
With joyo crunch distortion and copy amboy dukes stuff
Sounds great
He starts out with Slayer? I love it!
This is what Frank is always trying to play.
T R Y I N G but failing :D
Actualy I like the way Frank plays guitar.
Jonathan plays in hurry and soulless.
Sure is nice to know that music is so broad and varied that a player can start out on Metallica and even end up playing swing on an acoutic archtop guitar! Never thought I would hear such a story in my lifetime?
Wasn’t this the same type of guitar that Carmen Mastren played during his time with Glenn Miller’s AAF Orchestra from 43 to 45?
Chord melody is my chief area of interest on guitar, and Jonathan is one of the finest players I've heard in this style. His biggest influence, clearly, is the same as mine -- the great Allan Reuss, who played, most notably, with Benny Goodman's orchestra.
Trombonology Erstwhile
And mine although I’m a drummer.Allan
played a Gibson L5.The Epiphone Emperor played here was the same model as the guitar Carman Mastren played with Glenn Millers AAF Band.
Glad to get that info! Carmen Mastren was a great, underrated player; one of the best of the Swing Era.
Trombonology Erstwhile
Check out the pictures of Carman with the AAF band. Its clearly the same guitar.
He dope af
Check out Carl Hogan playing that guitar in a bunch of Louis Jordan Tympani Five videos from the 1940s. Inspired none other than young Chuck Berry.
Jonathan's website is well done
The mic is a little closer to the guitar than normal but MAN that thing cuts like a knife, huh?
Any chance we can get a lesson from John on that Sunny Side of the Street tune???
Metallica got me into playing guitar and now I play mostly Blues and Jazz. But years ago I was learning One and Nothing Else Matters.
Wow
Serious Eddie Lang vibe there.
Hey, are any of you guys down in the comment section professionals when it comes to guitars? Cuz I have a Guitar from around the early to mid 90s, but it's got the neck of a Epiphone Explorer and a Floyd Rose Bend Master. I have no way to determine the manufacturer of the guitar. It's definitely on an Epiphone, whatever it is. Also, do something epic for guitar of the day. Like another PRS. those are awesome!
Check out 'Chattanooga Choo Choo' by Glen Miller on UA-cam & you will see the guitar player using an Epiphone Emperor. I finally found a nice one similar to yours & it is LOUD!
I wonder what will Norman will think about archtop Guitar playing if He hear to John Pizzarelli
1950s Insurance or Midwest Jeeeeezusss... can’t quite put my finger on it but it’s going to overthrow the hipster look.
j aime le son
Isn't this the guitar Frant stallone got from his brother for christmas?
When goofy frankie boy grows up maybe he can take some lessons and really learn to play like this guy....just.... Maybe!
I bought an Emperor back in 1989 I paid like $450 itsstill in mint condition I couldnt quite see what Norms getting for this one.
scott 1911man $10,395 is the tag. Shoulda kept yours :-)
Tioga Fretworks I still have it in storage, I looked at it last week tuned it played it & put it back. :D
scott 1911man well, as long as you're not using it, that's...good?
song?
$6315.00??
I wonder how long it will take Frank Stallone to mash the dislike button
Steve Whyte As of 7:37 pm EST there's one dislike 😂
Norman, you understand the internet well but you missed a trick here. If you'd gotten him to play more metal and made a sketch out of it the video would go viral, I'm telling you.
wikichris thanks to God almighty he focuses on quality and not beating the "viral video about playing clishè songs in guitar stores" dead horse like Music is Win, StevieT and the like
luchadorito not what I was suggesting. Go to bed.
wikichris "SLAYER on an ARCHTOP????!!??"
allright :D idk what the fuck you talking about then but sure
Where's Frank Stallone ?
In the future (if were to be one 300 years ahead) Norm will be debated as a hero for preserving all these great guitars or a villian for hoarding them all up. So don't nobody make a statue of him.
and he has a bandaide on his ring finger, and he still gets his note..
What song is he playing? From who?
ricardo hg Seriously? Sunny Side of the Street is a standard. Google it
Tioga Fretworks maybe for you, i am from another country.
SSOFTS is an Old 1930's song.
ricardo hg world wide known song , sunny side of the street
Slayer and Metallica I could not believe it was acoustic. The tones are better than those 2 groups with all their amps and with (those damn) pedals. One other funny thing until Jonathan played those riffs I seriously used to think he was a sort of a time traveler who actually lives in the 40 s and somehow appears at Norm s every now and then. Seriously. :))))
Wow he plays almost as good as Frank Stallone****Haaaaa.
Hey Norm - U losing weight or what?
norm, did you know that the french cultivate smegma(dick cheese) its a delicacy in france, they have men not shower for weeks then they harvest it all up and pack it and label it for consumption at high end rich folk parties.
Emilio what does it taste like? Somehow I think you know.
like bad cheese man, not good.
just.....why?
i dunno man, ask the french. wild mafukas
emilio olivas stop
Good vocabulary but not much to say...
Great player, great guitar... but I steer kids away from men who wear bow ties.
IF THIS GUY DOESN'T LOOK LIKE THE DORK OF THE CENTURY I'LL EAT MY STETSON !!!!!!!
BUT BOY CAN HE PLAY !!!!!!!
wow
