Hi Ian & Julie as you have adverts in your videos I just thought it would be a good idea to also add your own video advert which could include your cycling business in the summer months, all your hard work is surely going to pay off when it’s all finished, be careful you don’t want to be losing any fingers🤣
Wow Ian. You really smashed your finger there my friend. The building is really coming along nicely though. I have one of those saws that you like and next to my big band saw I really like mine too. You both take care and be safe. No more accidents ok.
Could I make a suggestion?? With wheel barrows powered or handraulic , alway face them the way you are going to go before you load them. That way you don't have to fight a full one turning around 👍
It would mean stopping each time to wiggle...I was surprised the disc held out and it is still on the grinder. No more rebar for a while.....thank goodness 🤣
Hi Ian an Julie your concrete bases were very well put together and attention to detail payed off . They look great . Glad you have had some good weather apart from the frost but as spring comes that will be less. You know you should both invest in hard hats as a bad bang on the head will slow or even stop you in your build as there are a lot of sharks now to collide with . Julie has become more professional and is doing more getting more confident good luck with the build and watch not damage any more fingers Ian as they are all needed in this great new build
I was trying to think how I could have done it during the slab pour but it got too complicated so I opted for putting them in afterwards. They have worked out really well with the siding butting up to them and using it as a shadow gap (we painted them with waterproof bitumen paint)
Hope your finger is getting better " ouch " i know how it feels to smash a finger or two at the same time maybe tape two together may help but you can't wear a glove sorry, i see your work horse ( Judy ) is doing a fine job Great job it's coming together
well done keep it up , i am still far behind in building my garage for the equipment but had similar ideas in mind , the plinth is a good idea i shall be doing one as it protects the sheets and prevents water ingress. thanks for the idea
haha, my grand daughters school is nearby and the class helper told my Son that he had heard quite a lot of English words that he recognised being exploited the other day...... I didn't realise how close the playground was, so need to shout out a lot quieter in future. 🤣
That finger looks like agony. Don't worry about the dumper next time.... you're more delicate than the metal, and the paint will strip with use no matter how gentle you are with it. Place is looking good! Looking forward to the next one
Interesting method with that short concrete stub wall. Not something that is done here in the US but that's why I watch so many channels like yours is to see what everyone else around the world is doing. Often run across some really neat ideas that I put into my tool box of methods. I kind of wish I had a bigger concrete mixer. Mine is a one bagger i got almost free.. But my back says I don't need one... One of the best things I bought was a two wheeled wheelbarrow. But when will we get enough scratches in the powered wheelbarrow to put concrete in it. :) That finger is going to be sore for a while. BTDT.
I do not think this is a normal practice here. I just couldn't think of another way. It is just a small stem wall poured after the slab. I just wanted a barrier between the inside and outside as the rain has a tendency to blow sideways here. The more we used was a cast off from a friend. And now it is at my son's house for his extension build. I do have another which is 25 years old but needs a transformer as it is a 110v (site safety in UK requires 110v machines for some reason)
Hi Robert - yes, we will have around 18 panels on the roof. It is SW facing so not perfect but will get a lot of summer autumn sun. The house itself will have another 18 panels and is directly south facing. No intention to connect to the grid.
Hi you, I love your videos and am excited to wait every new episode. And I learn something every time 😄. For the little concrete footings I wonder why you don't use brick stones, which will be much less work when I see all the preparation you have to do before pooring the concrete. I wonder if stones were not easier and faster? Please go on with your video documentation, I love your channel!
If I had used bricks then there would have been more risk of living gaps in the mortar and and there would have been mortar in the vertical joints. I had the wooden forms already and the smooth concrete, painted black gives a nice shadow gap too. Plus I am awful at laying bricks 🤪
Another great weeks work, hope your finger heals quickly Ian, if you need a bit of a rest Ian I have some builder friends who would giveJulie some work with her power barrow to keep her busy and earn a few pounds while you recover. 😅
nice video... wich deleks dumper are you using? is it worth the investment? how was shipping and everything regarded about purchasing this thing? looking to buy something similar for myself.. keep up the good work :)
In the short time we have had it, it has paid off and really easy to use. We keep it running now so makes for quicker dumping (disabled the deadman's switch on the handle 😵💫)
@@HomesteadingUncontained yeah i saw the annoying switch... if i buy it.. its the first thing that is coming off.. how much did you pay for it? i'm assuming that you ordered one from germany or italy? I'm from slovenia, looks like italy will be the choice. thank you for your answer :)
ouch Ian man your finger looks terrible 😞 hopefully you got it looked at or you're like me and just grab some duct tape & just keep rolling 🤷♀️ the house is really looking good it's coming together nicely y'all
haha, I know. I have now got some tough built saw trestles and have made up an OSB bench top. So I will be taking that to site as soon as it become secure.
@@HomesteadingUncontained that needs an x-ray, maybe a little chip off it (I broke three few years ago, didn't expect them to be fractured from the bruising I could see but there it was. I am a surgeon 😔
I'm glad you didn't lose that middle finger for when you get cutoff in traffic...Lol. The build is coming along great! See you next week.
I know, I have already lost my left hand finger....I did not want a matching right 🤪
@@HomesteadingUncontained OUCH!!
Omg. Been waiting all week for a video. Yeeeeh. Fantastic you guys.
Cheers Lorraine....another short video is out on Wednesday this week 👍🏻
Yet, another wonderful job! But plz take care, my friend!
Thanks Justin. We will try, just glad I don't have an accident log 😵💫
Thanks
Thank you again Tam ♥️

We should advertise a little, there will be some coverage when we start next month. Lots of mountains...... and some bikes 😀
Another great watch. Finger looks really painful (tiffy using tools 😄😄)
haha, didn't want to scratch the new kit....just forgot to let go of the boulder....😩
Love the templates, shows Ian's a perfectionist.
It is always easy and stops you having to measure everything each time 👍🏻
Hi guys hope you well. Ian that finger looked really painful 😢 keep the videos coming really look forward to them 👍😃
Cheers Simon, the goal is to get it closed in and secure in the next few weeks.
Great work Ian and Julie I think you both could do with hard hats protection 🤠👍❤️
The amount of time we walk into those beams..... I have even stopped shouting out in pain now.... 😵💫
Wow Ian. You really smashed your finger there my friend. The building is really coming along nicely though. I have one of those saws that you like and next to my big band saw I really like mine too. You both take care and be safe. No more accidents ok.
Oh I would love s band saw for the new workshop...... better get the anti cut gloves out though (or chainmail) 🤣
I love your excavator
Cheers Martin - it has been a great help
The build is coming along!! Can’t wait to see the siding go up.
Us too, plan is to get it walled in and secure in the next few weeks.
Could I make a suggestion?? With wheel barrows powered or handraulic , alway face them the way you are going to go before you load them. That way you don't have to fight a full one turning around 👍
It is quite agile, but i know what you mean. I was trying to get it wide for the 80cm bucket. Julie is tough though 🤣
Tip: to save cutting blades and speed up while cutting rebar, all you need to do is cut past half way and then the rebar is easy to bend and snap.
It would mean stopping each time to wiggle...I was surprised the disc held out and it is still on the grinder. No more rebar for a while.....thank goodness 🤣

Thanks Larry, fingers his OK, not much feeling in it though. "Julie" is getting the hang of it and soon I will get her on that digger too. 🤪

but had similar ideas in mind , the plinth is a good idea i shall be doing one as it protects the sheets and prevents water ingress. thanks for the idea
The plinths seemed to have worked and makes a good solid barrier to the outside.
Excellent work. I was so happy to see eye (and sometimes ear) protection. Love the progress and all the details. Cheers!
Yes we are moving towards a safer environment now 😀 Less dangerous work too.
I hope that your finger gets better soon. I have a feeling that you said a few words when that happened. Along with the hard ⛑️ you need hand guards.

Can't remember if you've ever mentioned, will you put up solar on the garage roof once you are further along?
Thanks for the update as well.

You guys do good work you know it?
Thank you - really appreciate it
Ian will that new concrete key onto the older concrete to make a good waterproof seal?
It has done so far. I have one area I am investigating but over all it has keyed in well. (and the bitumen paint helps too)
Hard hats and ear defenders needed I think
I do have the ear defenders. I will use them more often 👍🏻
You've had the Chinese mini excavator for a year now, what are your thoughts on it and how is it holding up?
haha, you read my mind. I am putting out an update video this week. Will explain everything. 👍🏻

Ian, I suspect there'll be a fracture in that finger 😔
I have lost feeling in it now but the redness has gone. Annoying when trying to type 😩

Pinching your finger is not a nice feeling, be safe on the worksite.
I did whisper some fruity words...so much so the local school heard it and mentioned to us.... 🤪
Aouch. Mayby you need to make a r. picture off your finger
It seems OK but I have no feeling in it now ☹️
😊👍 Hello
