He is such a doll. Sweet, self effacing, dedicated, honest and respectful. A true craftsman who is such a delight to watch and listen to. His star shines bright. ❤️
I hope so. But I just don't see him having a multi oscar career like Daniel Day-Lewis. I think he's going to be one and done like Matt Damon and Cuba Gooding Jr. I also think the massive overexposure prior to the oscars hurt him
so wild hearing him talk about turning down "the big studio film" and doing the iceman cometh play even though his agent didn't think he should do it - like little did he know his cast mate denzel washington would go on to call baz luhrmann and vouch for him (without even telling austin) because of the incredible work ethic he displayed for iceman cometh. he wouldn't have gotten that if he'd done the studio film. just goes to show how following your gut and doing what you think is right for you, and just you, pays off massively. super inspiring, can't wait to see what's next for him!
I don’t know if Denzel vouching for him is what got him the part, but it says a lot when a titan like Denzel will cold call a huge director like Baz Luhrmann about you. Also I think it is beautiful that Denzel did that for him
Great point though: he wouldn’t have that connection if it were not for trusting his gut. I think Denzel is so respected even among movie goers that maybe this knowledge legitimizes him to a group outside that 18-35 age range
This was bittersweet, he was so nervous, so anxious, and it just tells me how little confidence he had in himself, it broke my heart, but thankfully, seeing him now, how he is way more relaxed, more at ease, shows he gained confidence in himself, and truly thank God for that, he has such a beautiful and gentle soul, I wish him all the best, all the success, all the stability, may God bless him always in every single moment, every single step.
He seems like he was building his confidence: I feel like you got to see who he is some more but maybe that is just the benefit of a long form interview. I wonder how it would go if he sat down to do another hour sit down with Howard Fine now!
I pray that God will give him faith that endures and that he never loses who he is. He doesn’t need to get lost in the sauce, he is the sauce and brings so much flavor to every room he is in. I hope he remembers that and I hope he has more wonderful Christian examples like he had in Denzel Washington guiding him… because he’s ready to fly! So humble is our man. Love him God bless him

I'm 68 years old . . . and never have I been so taken by any actor. I never was an Elvis fan however because of this young man, this Austin Butler, I'm more excited to see this film than any ever before. When for the first time ever learning about Austin while watching an "Elvis" interview a few days ago - my initial thought was that he strikes me as a new Brad Pitt. Then another several interviews and I saw a young Jimmy Stewart in him. Then after another round of more interviews and news clips where Austin was in Elvis costume I saw a young John Travolta. Then after another long evening of immersing myself in everything Austin Butler I even saw the essence of a young Rowdy Yates aka Clint Eastwood. To me? This man is destined to be a BIG movie star. His humbleness, his graciousness, his desire to keep himself grounded and growing as a person and actor just simply knocks my socks off. This interview shows he's been that same person all along. Just WOW!!! * EDIT . . . one more actor he reminds me of - Timothy Olyphant.
I too am 68 and after being impressed with his Elvis interviews, came here to see if he was the same incredible man in the past or if it was "staged". I'm so grateful to see that he is. After reading your comment, I realized that you are correct about his similarities with other actors who I respect. I appreciate your perspective and agree with you! I'm planning on seeing the movie this weekend.

Those who say Austin’s putting on the Elvis voice you can hear it didn’t really change all that much. He’s still got his deep voice here. The higher tones of his voice here sound only slightly higher than it does now

He gives me Johnny Depp vibes. He’s shy, humble, soft spoken and thoughtful. Depp is all of those things and an amazing character actor. Austin is now one of the most phenomenal character actors as well. I adore him. I’ve seen a lot of interviews after seeing “Elvis” and he’s like this in every single one. I adore him.

After I learned he was on kids shows like Johnny was on 21Jump, playing Elvis will cement him as a “cool” actor. Actors like DiCaprio are too polished.

Yeah that was awesome: if he ever seems to get a vibe that he comes off as being unrelateable or too good for anything he is so quick to be like “I feel self conscious any time I talk about acting because I feel like anything you say about it can come off so self important and pretentious”. Baz was with him and with a patient smirk just patted him on the shoulder like “cheer up darling” 😂

“Doing things that I hope future characters would do”. Little did he know he was playing guitar as a kid for 8 hours a day to one day transform into Elvis! Fascinating how that paid off and how in general things pay off in life.
It seems as though Howard Fine barely even needs to use words but he is so articulate and able to direct Austin where the best answer within his experiences are!
As a severe introvert I actually relate to Austin ( and his discomfort as well as work ethic). It is quite beautiful how deeply he is willing to share his experiences within himself, answering as clearly and honestly as possibly. I wasn’t aware of his career before Elvis. I’m intrigued by his willingness to share and am impressed by his growth and talent.

I saw an interview Howard did about a month ago where he said something like it was being a proud dad when Austin went to the Oscars. Love that
I love that Austin considers other actors, singers, etc who aren't famous part of "his tribe". It's true that there is an understanding and kindred spirit among creative theater minds, but it's easy to also compare ourselves to one another as we learn and practice our craft. Austin's final comment shows a humble, teachable spirit which sets him apart from many.
I'm warching this interview for the second time. Austin had just 27 years old in that time and he already shows so much maturity and deep thoughts. His essences remains the same.❤️
I love this man...he is so humble...intelligent..and one of the greatest actors I have ever seen..I am 80 yrs old..l have seen a lot of Hollywood come and go. He will be around forevermore ❤

For some of us, we're getting to see an earlier Austin after the release of effort in the Elvis biopic in 2022. It's good to see and hear how he has conversations, telling anecdotes about how he has learned from good and bad experiences. Also he does show some nervousness, yet responds to others in the room.
Austin did an amazing ELVIS and ELVIS is very unique. That's not easy at all! Great actor, this young man!
I’ve watched this interview so many times now. Please, please have a follow up interview post-Elvis! I’d love to hear more! And I wish so much someone would’ve filmed one night of Iceman Cometh. I’m so intrigued that Austin memorized an entire four hour play before showing up on day one. And he had gotten such great compliments from his work on that play and Denzel felt compelled to call Baz about it!
I love everything about this. Everyone in that room must have felt so lucky to be there. He gives spontaneous but well-thought out answers. He seems truly sincere and present in the moment. I also love how he tries to look at each person who asked the question. He's not just an incrediable actor but an incredible person as well. He deserves a lot of success.
I have been following Austin. This is the best interview I have seen yet and I think I have watched them all. He is so human and humble. He tells so much of his past and where he has come today. He is so respected in how far he has come and we look forward to what he has in store for us.♥♥♥♥♥
I am blown away by Austin! Honestly never heard of him until Elvis but I was mesmerized by him and going back to see all his work. It's so incredible to watch this knowing what is coming his way. He is so witty and well spoken!! I can't wait to see all the great things he will accomplish!!
I was thinking that exact thing. To think that turning down the big production allowed the play which got him a personal referral from Denzel. DENZEL! I’m struck that his thoughtfulness in interviews post Elvis is so genuine. He’s always been like this. ❤

He mentioned sacrifices and chose to do Broadway instead of a big project but that decision led to him getting a big career breakthrough with Elvis. Everything happens for a reason!

I’ve sern many inyerview and some of them mention’s Austin’s mother’s death, and that he talks about it.. i just feel so bad for him, he was only 23.. i can hear the pain in his voice.
I remember seeing Howard Fine on Dance Moms when the girls went to LA in one of the earlier season. Little Chloe and her mom seemed to like him a lot: he taught her emotional portrayal and he struck a good balance between being very kind and warm to this 10 year old girl but not treating her like a little kid. I thought he seemed very sweet and incredibly professional!
So I saw “oh no way he works with adults, how does that go?” Like I thought maybe he specialized in teaching juvenile actors.
And he works with my man Austin Butler?!?! What a cool cat.
Also lovely chat with Aus, loved hearing about his faith and how much he loved his mom. I know she is smiling down on you darlin. This talk made me feel like we got to know him as a person so thank you very much for sharing!
So many people have so many negativs things to say about him, without even knowing who he is, hes so hardworking and seriously talented.(and super hot)
I can't figure out why anyone would be negative. However I am negative about rami Malek and Freddie mercury not because of queen but because the movie wasn't very good. The teeth distracted me even rami said same thing. And rami doesn't deserve negative vibes. So I guess people who nevef liked elvis liked my generation did, will find fault with Austin. But he's going to do Dune 2 and that's a mean character of Feyd. I can't really imagine Austin in that part.

I've seen him on iCarly because my grandsons watched it and I thought he was cute. Then I saw him as the cult enforcer, Tex, in Once Upon a time in Hollywood but I did not know that was Austin. He is so different as Tex in the movie and has scenes with both Leo and Brad. He is phenomenal in Elvis. I've seen Elvis 3 times now!

Honestly, I'll be the first of the very few to admit on a random video that captures his true essence that growing up I always disliked him. This came from the fact they casted him to be a draw to the female protagonists of each of the shows he's been on and honestly it came through sheer jealousy.. I was envious that he was blonde, cute to the females and could capture the hearts of many easily where I've struggled. But now I've come to appreciate him and im intrigued in his work, when he played Tex I was amazed at his ability to really show us an insight to the character. Now looking at this video, noticing his hand gestures I can see we are not that different anxiety wise. Moral of the story: do not judge a book by its cover.

Very interesting chap. I like that he is committed to the craft of acting and not so much the fame as you can tell from this interview. I don't think he will end up like Elvis and be manipulated by his manager, the business or his public image. When he is talking about connecting to his soul and body and the art of acting that is very deep!! Also really enjoy his sense of humour and not taking himself too seriously. Great interview!!!!

I am an 80 yr old woman 👵 who is a total Elvis fan. I visited Graceland and Tupelo, MS in the 80's. Austin Butler is the embodiment of Elvis. His portrayal is beyond belief. 😍 He is so deserving of the Best Actor Academy Award. I have watched his movie several times and I will be following his career. Austin Butler is an amazing young man 👨 with a soul that is far beyond his age in years.

Not to put anyone down here. Not my intention. Much love and respect to everyone who commented. I enjoyed reading these comments. I just saw the movie Saturday night. I am a huge Elvis fan. I am 57 and have loved Elvis my whole life. This young man is one of the greatest actors of all time. He just blows me away. Compare him to Brad Pitt? I don't get that. Imho, you cannot compare this man to anyone. He blows me away. He brought Elvis back to life for all of us. The film was good. Best picture, Best director and drum roll...best actor AUSTIN BUTLER. I was disappointed in the film because they didn't show the heart of Elvis. Elvis' heart was Jesus Christ. His gospel albums, music was the backbone of Elvis' career. Hollywood doesn't like Jesus or His followers and/or truth. Those of us who are true blue Elvis fans this movie was the Hollywood version of the story of Elvis not the whole truth. Not his heart. I was looking for that. However, the film is still quite good. If they had just put that in it, this film would be the best film ever made in the history of Hollywood. I was a little disappointed in Tom Hanks. His performance was good. Colonel Parker did not speak with a foreign accent. It was kinda creepy. I respect everyone's opinion. This is mine. We all see things differently. I want to see the film again. I want to own a copy of it. I am now a fan of Austin Butler and I'm sure I'm going to be watching everything he is in. He's just incredible. God bless.

I agree, he's very different from any other young actor right now. He's nothjng like Brad Pitt. However, Brad also never seems quite comfortable with his fame. Leo works so intensely and so much I don't think he has time to even reflect on fame. I hope Austin has a great and enduring career. I think he will. He has sweet grandparents.

He was probably in the middle of working with BAZ, because he said he worked with BAZ for 5 months before he actually got the ELVIS roll. Once Upon A Time In Hollywood premiered in July & this interview took place in March. You can see him on the red carpet for O.U.A.T.I.H. with black hair, saying how grateful he is on getting the roll of ELVIS.

I don’t get why people are so bothered by his “new” voice after playing Elvis. To me he doesn’t sound much different now than he does here, a little deeper, raspier with an occasional accent slip but I mean, you try speaking a certain way constantly for 2 years then try to talk like you used to and see what happens
Well his voice would drop as he gets older, bec he's only 26-28 in this interview. Then being elvis for at least 2-2 1/2 years. That's gonna change his voice. For instance we moved around a lot for my father's job. We moved from Virginia which is a fairly generic southern, to Houston which is soooo texan. After only 3 months in Texas I developed a definite Texas twang which is NOT southern at all. It's an accent that also differs from one region of Texas to another. So I've never lost that Texas accent even tho as married we lived in Oklahoma for 17 years before going back to Texas. Oklahoma is similar to Texas tho.
