    I cannot live without the Trident now, especially with the DOS compensating my 2 part dosing automatically. I wish they had a nutrient tester add-on for it. That would sell like crazy.

    The trident is such a great piece of equipment to have. Like you said they’re easy to set up and gives you piece of mind when it comes to keeping your reef parameters stable. Yours fit right in your cabinet easy. It’s like it was made for it. 😂

    You can cut the CLEAR WASTE LINE ONLY to better fit your application instead of having it coiled up. Of course if you cut the black sample line your test cuvette will overflow and ruin the trident.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  2 роки тому

      Good to know! With my other testers they said not to cut the line so I Jsut left them both full length

      @@ReefDudes yeah its only the drain line that can be cut for the trident, i had that idea that it would be okay cause why not? Contacted neptune about it and they said the same, has no effect.

  • @andrewcourrier983

    Does the inlet line stay primed? Or is it completely new tank water for each test? If it stays primed wouldn't the unit be testing water that entered the line just after the last test?

  • @Sammy31Dee
    @Sammy31Dee 2 роки тому

    The trident has more accuracy than the other testers....read the labels on your test kits in your alktronic /mastertronic ....once it's calibrated ...you can trust your trident to test more reliably than others and auto dos as needed....I absolutely love the product and would not want a hard coral tank without it...it is my heavy opinion the best piece of gear any reefer could buy...the whole ecosystem is so polished these days

  • @Zbryant91

    My 2 biggest suggestions if you care,
    1. calibrate it using tank water and manual test results. The calibration solutions I have gotten have been far enough away from my normal parameters that I get a lot more variation in trident readings (i.e. +/- 40-50 on cal and Mag). using tank water keeps the graphs way more consistent(+/- 10) alk seems about right no matter what. When using the trident calibration solution there was so much variance in cal/mag that it wouldn't detect trends over months. Now, I check at the end of my 2 month supply and my manual tests are nearly identical to the trident readings.
    2. the 3d printed funnels that go in the reagent caps to keep the needles straight will save you some head scratching when the reagents start getting low. If you see the calcium reading shoot up and the mag reading drop at the same time, this seems to be due to air in the line, which for me was due to the needles not staying completely vertical.

    • @Sammy31Dee
      @Sammy31Dee 2 роки тому

      When your trident does this....you MUST send it in for service or do the service DIY kit....thankfully mine has been spot on with each calibration but I know that day is coming where I gotta send it off or swap ...it's recommended to service every 18 months....I would not recommend calibrating with tank water or doing manual testing of tank water to set calibration bc your manual test kits have a much larger margin of error vs a properly functioning trident

    • @Zbryant91
      @Zbryant91 2 роки тому

      @@Sammy31Dee Mine did this when new. started doing tank calibrations after about 6 months and it tightened up the readings. I did exchange with a refurb 3 months ago and am still doing tank water calibrations.
      we can agree to disagree on margin of error on manual tests. I'd rather calibrate with a red sea test on mag/ca as my tank is running around 1420/440 respectively than use the calibration fluid that is at 1260/460 and see my graph bouncing. As Devin said, I could care less the exact value, I need to see the trend and if the graph is bouncing you can't see anything and it didn't detect a drop I had.
      If yours doesn't have this issue, great, but this has been my experience and neptune support said it was "normal" when they logged in and viewed my system. So I just did what I needed in order to get it functional for me.

    • @Sammy31Dee
      @Sammy31Dee 2 роки тому

      @@Zbryant91 they should have shown you they've tested the trident against other test kits....it is in fact ...wayy more accurate than the manual test kits....I also use red kit and Hanna as back stops but never to calibrate my trident....I would check your setup for blind spots

    • @Zbryant91
      @Zbryant91 2 роки тому +1

      @@Sammy31Dee Sure, an automated titration test should be more accurate as it's removing human error. But the listed specs on the trident vs the red sea kit, shows the accuracy of the manual tests is actually tighter by at least 50% on all 3. I'm sure there are more things that effect accuracy which is why they have it listed the way it is.
      I have a large number of neptune components in my build. I like neptune, just sharing my experience on the trident. It has reduced my manual testing and gives me controllability of my alk with a DOS and kalk reactor, which is my main use and was the only usable feature when using the included calibration solution.
      What do you mean blind spots? no setup is bulletproof but I am curious as to why you are saying this as you know nothing about my setup.

    • @ReefDudes
      @ReefDudes  2 роки тому

      I havened used all 4reef.. how long is the lag ish? is it more than 4h? if its say 1-2h then it should work. Ill get the doser hooked back up later this week and start dabbling with it.

    • @PatrickJewellTheGreat
      @PatrickJewellTheGreat 2 роки тому

      @@ReefDudes it’s supposedly takes 24 hours to show up as alkalinity, though I think that’s at maximum. I basically let the Neptune DOS to split up the volume and a little bit goes in throughout the day, so if you think about it, those mini doses don’t show until 24 hours later. So it makes me curious how the Trident would handle All For Reef.

    That little filter on the sample line seems to me will cause you inaccurate readings. The sample line is so small any restriction will adversely impact the sample volume and cause inaccurate readings. I like the idea of a filter but my research led me to that style will not work.
