  • The Linda WOD, also known as '3 Bars of Death', is one of the original CrossFit WODs. For time athletes must perform 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 reps of deadlift (1.5 body weight), bench press (body weight) and clean (0.75 body weight). Linda is a CrossFit benchmark WOD used to assess an athlete's progress over time.

    Mad respect for not giving up and moving through the whole thing after you missed your goal time. That workout is brutal for people carrying half of your muscle mass.

      Probably because the weight would be twice as heavy. A guy half his size might have better cardio but he’s going to have half the strength.

    Great job on this workout! Just a heads up, the Linda standard for the DB bench at all the semi finals was each rep HAD to start at the top. I know this is a dumb rule but it ended up being important for certain athletes and it means that you one rep short every round in your version of Linda. Not sure that it would have mattered much just thought I would mention it. Next you should try the original version of Linda where the weights are determined by your body weight:
    1.5 times body weight deadlift
    Body weight barbell bench
    3/4 body weight squat clean

      It absolutely does. Work done = force x distance. Increase the weight, you increase the force required and hence increase the work. The weight and work would increase by around 50%, which is far from negligible.

      It would most likely take him hours. Assuming he's 320, The 160 pound dumbbell presses would prob be the hardest for him. 480 deadlift would prob be easy, not sure about the 240 clean.

    Considering you’re not training for this, it was incredible. Your cardio volume for a strongman is immense. Hybrid athlete for sure. CF championship favors shorter people.

      Yeah, light weights dor Mitch but this quickly becomes about cardio. I think 165 reps. I've been known to really gas on 12 reps of squats.

      Yep, 165. For countdown sets, the total is n×(n+1)÷2 where n is what you start at. So for countdowns from 10, it's 10×11÷2=55. Three of those is 165.

    watching this video is insane! After each set you're like, "okay that's where he stops." And then he'll go and do another. Mitchell you have to have the highest cardio out of any WSM in the past decade.

    Sir you are the best thing to happen in strongman since Big Z. You are so talented and intelligent. Please, consider giving us some tips on improving our Linda. How to improve our front rack. Etc. Why not try an obstacle race next? A mudder or the like? I think you could prob design an entertaining strongman obstacle race. You should do some Wim Hof with Stoltman, cause you are from colder home than me.

    I thougt is was proper Linda as it said in title!?
    Wiki says that Mitch weighs 320lbs/ 145kgs.
    So that would be :
    Deads with 480lbs/217,5kg
    Bench with bodyweight
    Squat cleans with 255lbs / 115kgs

    i reckon the cleans would've been, at least slightly, less tiring if they had been actual cleans and not upright rows+front squats. that being said, this was still incredible to watch. also, my old rugby strength and conditioning coach is in the background of this video, that's so cool!

    Thiss is amazing. Nice one. I think you can go quicker. For the squat clean you caught it upright. You want to catch the bar as you make your way down. Like your jerks… get under the bar quicker. But amazing! It will take me days to do.

    Was anybody else yelling at the screen telling Quadzilla to DO SKWATZ! ?
    I've been out of the gym for three weeks on an injury. When I go back, I'm doing this. I'll be sure to post up my three hour time when I'm done, since I don't think I can rack that front skwat at .75bw (130lb). Gonna have to unload, high bar rack the bar, reload, do a rep and repeat. 🤣

    The actual WOD is 1.5 bw dl = 472 Dl bw bench press 315 ( giving you a break) and a 243 squat clean. Not even close to a true Linda. But what do i know. I'm just a level 1 CrossFit instructor, but a huge fan of strongman. Mitch work on your cardio as this was a scale down workout.

    The fact you can turn around after a rest and do 900/400/500 of 1’s is insane. Love Eddie and Shaw, but I promise they couldn’t do this in under 20:00

    With his Muscle mass his body will be screaming for Oxygen and lactic acid will start building up fast. This makes it twice as hard for him as he’s burning through Oxygen and Energy reserves really fast.

    Can you do a video about perform enhancers and how prevalent steroid use is among strongmen. I feel like most people are pretty unsure about it’s role and would be cool to here your rake

      I would assume all strongmen competing at the highest level in the sport are on gear. I’m sure some take more than others and use different compounds. I just don’t think anyone could be competitive at this level without performance enhancing drugs. Plus, there is no testing.

    You could have done much better with proper squat cleans (I.e. a clean in which you catch the bar below parallel) The way you did it divides the movement plus forces you to go higher each time, which in turn consumes a lot of energy and time. Wonder why nobody told you. Anyways, impressive work regardless.

    Your “squat clean” was actually “power clean + front squat”. A ton of wasted effort (and time) there. Proper technique would have shaved minutes off your result.

      CrossFit is what I do 6 days a week I love it so much I modify workouts but I do all those movements at lighter weight CrossFit is so much fun highly recommend trying it at least you can modify everything if you need the coach is your friend tell them what you can’t do and they will give you other ideas and will he,p you teach you

    Those cleans at the end are seriously brutal. Most normal people would be out of breath after doing that many front squats in a row, let alone cleans.

      I agree. I've done both as well, and while I think "Crossfit training" is harder than "MMA training"; for sure "MMA Fighting" and even "MMA Sparring" are harder than "Crossfit Competing".
      What surprised me the most was how much harder MMA is than grappling or striking alone! I thought MMA would be Striking + Grappling; but it's more like Striking x Grappling!

      ​@@sensam6155 So true. In grappling atleast it's easier to "cheat" and rest when you're comfortable, knowing there won't be someone trying to take your head off everytime. lol
      I've sparred SW with crossfit maniacs and after 5-10 minutes of rolling they'll be tired out of their minds because they're tense. Before that tho, usually is like fending off a gorilla.

    Just needed a better strategy. Could tell you were in for a world of hurt when did first round in a minute. Well done for sticking through it, still great time just could have made life easier by not going out so hot at the start. Crazy as well that youre able to muscle clean into squats, thats what ended up taking all of your energy.
