Some interesting picks. And I also see now that almost zero BookTubers agree with my picks ha ha. Thanks, as always, for including me!
I love when you highlight stand-alones! I like that it is still impactful without being a huge commitment of 1,000+ pages
Ahh thank you so much Jak! I love standalones! 100% deserve more hype haha
What a wonderful video to stumble upon. Subbed.
I love the amount of work you put into this Isa - time to update my TBR and wishlist! 😄
Love the video!! ❤ So many of my favorites there from House on Cerulean sea to Sword of Kaigen and Blood over bright heaven 😍
So much effort!! Love your videos! You’re killing it👏🏽
Thank you so much! I am very happy you enjoyed them!!
Ohh this is exciting!! 😃 your list is perfect. Your resources are reliable, and I've read most out of your list, these were some of memorable reads and stays with you for a very long time. Thank you for bringing it all together ❤ appreciate the effort.
Ahhh thank you! 🥹 I really appreciate your words! It took a while, but i am also happy about the result of the list!!
Fantastic video, You know me, I can't help but be drawn to beautiful data and this is BEAUTIFUL DATA. I find it very interesting how different stand-alone fantasy favorites tend to be from the fantasy series - but it was interesting to see that the top couple of books were still high-fantasy for the most part.
Fun video, and it sounds like you did considerable research for it! I'll be including Piranesi, one of my current favorite standalones, in the fantasy novels course I'm teaching next semester. Thank you for compiling this!
That sounds so fascinating! What are you going to highlight?
@@FunFantasyBooks Each of the books I’ve selected for the course is a different twist on a journey of self-realization. There are some wonderful psychological insights in Piranesi that I look forward to exploring with my students.
So many of these were on my top standalone list too!!! Loved this ❤
Yay!! I still have The Night Circus pending which I know is one of your favorites!
I'm so happy Sword of Kaigen won!!! Great list and video ❤
So happy to see M. L. Wang getting the recognition she deserves for her works. I highly recommend "Blood Over Bright Haven" not only to fans of Dark Academia, but also to the fans of "Full Metal Alchemist" anime.
Fullmetal Alchemist?? Well now it's my next read
Im new to your channel and I love this ranking! I just realized I have not read most of them! Thanks so much!! I will have them in my TBR for 2024 ❤❤❤😊
Yay!! So happy you loved it! Hoping for many 5-star reads for you in 2024!!
I hope you enjoy this 🤞. Let me know if you did!
Omg Isa. This was wonderful. I love so many of these books. ❤
I've not even heard about some of these! Wow! Will definitely check them out. Also am so happy No. 1 is THE one :D I read it thanks to you and it is one of my favourites still. And I can't wait to get the The Blood over Bright Haven, hopefully in December.
Hahaha number 1 is the number 1 by such a long run haha! It is an amazing read tbh, very well deserved! Ahhh I hope you love Blood over bright haven!
I loved this ! It looks like it took a lot of effort. I still need to read The Sword of Kaigen.
Thank you!! It was, but I am very happy you loved it! Yes please!! Pick up sword of Kaigen!!
Great video! I’d like to get into fantasy more so it is very useful 😅
Ahhh thank you!!! Oh for sure! Let me know if you need help guiding you towards fantasy-entrance standalones!
Wow, thank you! Any tips are welcome. I love The Nevernight Chronicles and The Mistborn Saga. I would like to read more adult fantasy rather than YA but all adult fantasy feel so intimidating 😅
The production quality of this vid is incredible!
Thank you! I am very happy you enjoyed it! 🥹 and that the hard work paid off!
Hi Isa, Just a quick update to say that I finished The Graveyard Book and I really enjoyed it. The second half was soooo good. Thanks for rec and for all of your awesome videos!
Thank you for coming back!! I am thrilled you enjoyed Graveyard Book!! What is going to be your next read?
@@FunFantasyBooks I am currently about 1/3 through Iron Flame. I also ordered The Sword of Kaigen which will be a December read. What are you reading at the moment?
Wonderful video!! I also did spot my face somewhere hehe
Hahahah! You are a real inspiration for this video!
A lot of surprising entries, and many not-surprising ones! It's been a while since I heard The Ghost Bride mentioned, but people who've read it really loved it, I need to give it a try as well! Yay for Guns of the Dawn on the list!
I really want to get into The Ghost Bride! It def sounds like my cup of tea!! Yay!! I was so happy for Guns of the Dawn! Even if it was not in position number 2 which is where it belongs in my heart haha
oh wow this video concept blew my mind!! So many of these are already my favorite (Circe, SOA, Invisible life of Addie LaRue, Babel, Kaikeyi etc), the rest goes on my list!!!
Ahh thank you so so much!! I still need to read Addie!! Great to know that you also loved it!!
one of the best fantasy books I have ever read is called Four wings of the dragon goddess by Theodora Quinn. Its got dragons and time travel all in one.
I love standalone fantasy books.
I was surprised to see The Ten Thousand Doors of January so far up the ranking! There's a lot of books on this list that I have yet to pick up 👀
I was also very surprised!! I guess I will need to read it now!!
Well, without starting it: Neil Gaiman’s any book. He is the master of storytelling. Fact. From child books to graphic novel? What he started it turned to gold. Sir Terry Pratchett’s Discworld. It can be handled as standalone too (especially the starting books of each series). It’s just a masterpiece as it is. And together comes Good Omens.
As for Sanderson’s? Of course he is mentioned. He is in the hype loop at this point and by definition they have to talk about all his books on their channel if they want good for the algorithm. That was with Harry Potter back then. Everyone talked about it. Period.
I’ve read 17!❤
Gaiman always struck me as a bit of a Clive Barker-lite. Highly Recommend Barker's: The Thief of Always, Weaveworld, Imajica (foremost), The Books of Blood
i really enjoyed the Night Circus
I still need to read it! Hopefully I will read it this month!
Another great stand alone: Sistersong by Lucy Holland ❤
Thank you so much for the recommendation! I am sure it will also help other readers!
Sci-fi/Fantasy and Magical Realism from Asian authors is my only saving grace at this point. Plot lines have become so predictable that I don't enjoy reading anymore. Tropes are one thing, a predictable plot and bad writing is another. I will forgive a lot but... the experience of reading is not the same for me. What's worse is that I can't trust reviews anymore because i don't' know who has been bought off. The book world kinda sucks right now. All of this to say.... thanks to your video and research, I have some books I can look into🥲🥲❤❤
Not me just commenting because I'm happy that you have the same opinion as me of The Priory... I was sad that the ending felt rushed after all that specially good worldbuilding. Also, I didn't know when I started it that it was a (feminist) Sant Jordi retelling, and while reading, I started to have my suspicions that later were confirmed with a quick Google search. Also, I'm writing down some recs thanks to this. What a video, girl! You definitely put hard work into it. Well done!
ps: not a fan of Addie Larue... I was just meh when I read it.
ps2: Babel
The House in the Cerulean Sea is definitely one I agree with.
Ahh such a great and cozy standalone!!
@FunFantasyBooks I believe it's getting a sequel soon though
🔥🔥🔥
Cerulean Sea is no longer a stand alone! I didn’t know there was going to be a sequel, but it was announced along with the cover.
no Nettle and Bone?
Why do some of your books have a spanish cover?
soy wax?
I dont know, a lot of recency bias here. Maybe best books recently??
Seems disrespectful to the shoulders of all the genre giants who came before.
Well, it's still the booktube/tiktok generation, they all read the same (recent) books...
Do you read in Spanish?
Sometimes!! But usually in English!
You should definitely read Zeynep Sahra's "Love pie". Zeynep Sahra is a Turkish writer, and I think you should also read another Turkish writer's book, "Liars and strangers", by Emre Gül. I would be very happy if you read it.
