It was 20 years ago today that Yanni, Live at the Acropolis was released. Who knew it would become what it has. And so for the last twenty years, I have been not only grateful for the gig and who called me to audition for it and who convinced Yanni to use me, but especially grateful for all the wonderful comments and love from fans all over the world that continue to this day . . . I hope they never stop. That was truly one of the highlights of my career and life. An eternal thanks to Yanni . . . All the Best!

Darlene Koldenhoven I heard this song when I was a kid (4), the video was on TV, my mom (big Yanni's fan) was seeing it, and I was listening. It was you who was singing on the screen and for many years I've been looking for the video where you were singing, but I only found this one, which is also great. Now i'm 26 and this amazing song keeps touching my soul.

Actually, those are pure vocalizations. They are speaking no language, saying no words, conveying no message, except that of pure joy, expressed by and in the extreme loveliness of this gorgeous composition, arrangement and execution.

This particular piece of music is called "The Flower Duet" ... and it is an operatic aria. You can look up Anna Nebtrebko and Elina Garanca ... on their rendition of this wonderful piece of music. It's one of my all time favorites too. Enjoy!

ITA. Darlene does the best version of this song (no one can do that ending like she does!), but this is my second favorite version and the one I listen to b/c I can't find the Acropolis version on YT! No offense to the new, young singers who sang in Puerto Rico and the North American tour, who, though talented, just don't have the vocal maturity, for lack of a better term, to make me want to listen over and over, the way this one does. And the harmony of their voices in this one is lovely.

I didn't know it's title. So I kept listening to every song till I got to this one!!
I saw this video years ago...this is the first time I've seen it in years...so, why does the white woman get all the face time on the camera? I've seen other vocalists do the same song, and they are about equal....Now, mind you, I'm not trying to make this a racist argument. I think both women are equally as talented, else they wouldn't be on the stage together....and this was the first video by Yanni I had ever seen. Does anyone have any insight without making this any more racist than I've already done?
I can see the camera was in the middle, since the blonde singer was shown from HER right...meaning, the camera could have turned left to see the black vocalist from HER left....
Anyway, I LOVE this song, and listen to it as often as I think of it...
Beautiful, intense, something to close the eyes to an drift off in a fantasy of music.....I just want to see the faces of those that are vocalizing more, to see the faces of those that are singing....those faces on a stage with their lips in a microphone also have body language that shows how much they enjoy what they are doing.

@8491angel : Aria IS the name of the song. It is also a musical term for a melody performed by ONE voice. Yanni had some fun, and took some liberties with this song. But that is what music is all about.

@liolp808 The lady in this video does it very well the diference with Darlene Koldenhoven is that this lady (london) sing exalting the words, i mean, sing more clearly the letter, and the notes are the same, for other side the other singer doesnt complement good the voice like she did in acropolis
Both versions are awesome. This blonde is a little bit more operatic than the other one. What I like about this one is that she puts more passion when she sings. The other blonde just stands there. However, the blonde at the Acropolis hits a very nice high E natural and this one doesn't.
The LADY at the Acropolis is DARLENE KOLDENHOVEN....she's the real deal and has a web site etc....and I agree that she does this piece better and actually she wrote the lyrics to this version of the Delibes opera. (in a language that only SHE knows) !!....and that's the truth cause she told me so! When this Yanni special hit the air the world was bugging Darlene about "What language are you singing?".....the answer: "Yanni told me to just make something up!" Royalties?
@hackstermatrix .......Yanni has named it Aria for what ever purposes however if you stopped personally attacking people for a second and went to check your facts you will find the original composition was done by Leo Delibes in 1881/2 try googeling it !! to the other comments as for compareing both singers every one has an individual voice and to have the gift of a voice like either of these ladys would be a huge privaledge i very much envy their talent
I'm sorry but I think the Acropolis version with Darlene Koldonhoven (did I spell her name right?) is way better. This girl does have the clear edge in emotions but Yanni's "Aria" is ment to be heard and not so much as watching the singers. closing your eyes (or the monitor) and listening to both versions you can tell the diffrence. Anyway, it's subjective and both ARE good no matter which way you look at it :)

Aria is not the name of the song, is a decription of a portion of a larger piece of work. Lakme is the opera that contains this song. Yanni has nothing to do with this song other than a possible arrangement. The song was composed in 1881-82 by Leo Delibes and it is opera!! My favorite truly Yanni's son is Felitsia dedicated to his mother. He has good music but this one is not his.

Aria samples Lakme by leo delibes just as golddigger (kanye west) samples i got a woman (ray charles).
or for a more similar scenario, singing in the rain by mint royale, samples singing in the rain sang by gene kelly.

I do not understand the words of this song but I have always enjoyed the music since the first time I heard it, during Yanni's concert at the Acropolis. I had the fortunate opportunity to see his concert live in Washington DC back in 2003. A great show for sure. Thanks Yanni for many hours of pleasure.

Lynn Davis is one of the most gifted singer today. This Aria is probably the greatest for women with exception vocals to perform. Joan Sutherland would be proud of Darlene's performance
