I'm reading _Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep_ and I'm truly appalled at how much they left out and changed from the book for the movie. Don't misunderstand, I will always love _Blade Runner_, but there's so much of DODES that they leave out, and other stuff that they change for no reason I can understand. For example, why in the film are they replicants - living being constructed through genetic manipulation, and in the book they are androids - sophisticated machines? The book is asking questions about the definition of humanity, and changing the fundamental nature of the androids into replicants changes the context significantly.

Brilliant stuff... so, I'm sorry to be 'that guy' to pedantically harp on about how replicants aren't technically 'artificial intelligence'.
They are not robots, or machines of any kind. They are genetically engineered beings created in a lab to be fully-grown, fully-functioning human analogues, imprinted with human memories.
We're not computers, Sebastian. We're physical.
Human slaves to robot slaves… we humans would enslave the whole universe. AGI needs to think about that… carefully.
