There's a ramp with accompanying huge bridge off 119 in Indiana County that, to my knowledge, still goes nowhere. The sheer size of that bridge and the fact they it's never been utilized after being built probably more than 35 years ago always amazed me.
Thank You for the info! I seen this many times and guessed it was an abandoned section of a side street never removed, I never guessed it was a proposed on ramp! cool
thank you for this, and thank you for doing some research on the truth about this ramp... i do hate when people do videos of abandoned towns, etc., and they assume instead of doing just a tad research to explain what occurred.
There's a weird old abandoned ramp like this in Johnstown, PA, that I oftentimes wonder what it was for. It's on Roosevelt Blvd, just slightly North of Washington St intersection.
Many years ago Rege Cordic had is "Cordic and Company Bridge Leap." Maybe you'll remember it. What happened is that it came about due to people who had taken a wrong turn and ended up on the onramp to a bridge that no longer existed. Luckily no one was seriously hurt. But it made for good radio while driving to work.
+TheHolyMongolEmpire Yes, but idiots are idiots, and they did tear down the Syria Mosque, which if I'm not mistaken was already designated as a landmark, but they tore it down anyways to build a parking lot, like Oakland needed another parking lot. Idiocracy in action, anat.
That doesn't make a lot of sense to me. The tracks and station approaches were realigned in the 1950's and an entirely new tower (PITT) was built to control train traffic in the terminal limits. Unless PennDot (or whatever they were called in those days) had plans to take it by eminent domain, I don't think Pennsylvania Railroad would have been too keen to let go of their station. Now, the 1960's? That's a different story, and PRR was on hard times by then. All that remains of the once extensive switchwork at PITT are a couple of crossovers and switches...all controlled by a distant NS dispatcher in Atlanta.
Dude, I dig your videos. I always wondered about that ramp. Now I know. You ought to do one about Green Man's tunnel. (Piney Fork, near Snowden, South Park twp.)
Historical maybe, but it's also revenue generating because the building has condos in it now. Please don't give Pittsburgh government any credit as a do-gooder.
uh, no this is not entirely correct. the real reason is in historical pittsburgh website with pictures of the "ghost ramp" Among the interesting sites motorists encounter as they drive along Bigelow Boulevard is a partially completed ramp known as the "Ghost Ramp." Original plans for the Crosstown/Bigelow interchange included preliminary work on entrance and exit ramps that would connect Bigelow Boulevard to the I-579 expressway, which was still in the planning stages. The original design for the highway included a full interchange at Bigelow. Years later, when the Veteran's Bridge and I-579 were completed, the proposed ramp was not used. The mysterious Ghost Ramp remains as part of the retaining wall.
30 seconds of extra drive time? Try rush hour and your in bumper to bumper traffic for 15mins inching your way through downtown traffic. Should've blown that building into rubble! Would've had a more convenient terminal and a straight shot to Oakland. But we saved some overpriced condos.
I can't tell you how much I love, and miss Pittsburgh; I miss everything about it.

That missing ramp adds a LOT more than 30 seconds to the route. More like 4 to 5 minutes. But still not worth destroying the historic train station.
Yes! I always wondered that! They were going to demolish the Penn Station to build a *ramp??* Unbelievable! Thanks! :-)
I always remember growing up in the Pittsburgh area, the Bridge to Nowhere.
cool! I'm glad to see that building saved :)

rreidnauer I believe that was a railRoad access road at one time
Actually I never saw it driving through there. Thank you for pointing out its existence. Interesting tidbit about Pittsburgh roads.
Awesome video brother
kewl vid, you always post some great subjects!
I think the narration is good.

I love this kind of thing. Thanks.
Thanks for this, always wondered what that was there for!
Wow, I didnt know that, glad they didnt tear that incredible building down, idiots in the 50's.

Great info.
That's hard to believe that anyone would consider flattening the old Pittsburgh Penn Station office tower. That's a classic Beaux Art building.

Cool to learn.
Good video
great space if you car trouble halfway out of town
With todays modern engineering it may could still become a ramp without destroying anything 🤷🏿♂️
that's pretty cool
Guy in van blows horn = JAGOFF
Interesting Pittsburgh trivia....
Iv seen that ramp many times! but that stuff is normal for PA!!
makes you wonder what other lil side streets/ramps lead to nowhere, that the state wasted money on, i know theres one in NC called road to nowhere

"30 seconds of additional drive time" millions$$$$$$$$$$later,i think we should tear it down and put in another useless bike lane.
My Gymnastics Coach is petitioning for a "Cartwheels/Somersaults" Lane. Only in the Fall, though.
