SS Red is good, especially now with EX R, but SS Hilda simply outclasses him in every way and is so much easier to use (and more bulky since she doesn't sacrifice her defenses for setting up, or having to rely on status quo) He's also rather annoying in gauntlet because he needs a lot of support to clear stages as he has no utility at all, so you need a more expansive team for him
I generally like Red the character, but out of all the Reds in this game, Redzard might be my 4th favorite (MRed is the only one I don't have, so that one by default takes 5th). TRed takes first, followed by Redlax, btw. I've had Redzard at 1/5 since his first banner, but I never felt any desire to candy him up b/c he never receives any dps multipliers, and I was never interested in Syncing w/ him b/c I didn't want him to turn black and blue. Also, kinda sad that his vertical expansion didn't give him anything like Charging Sun/Furious Brain/etc., but he doesn't have a horizontal expansion yet. The choice of mega is the thing that's always bothered me the most. Never been a fan of Zard X's design/color scheme, and very much an unfan of mixing spec moves w/ a Charizardite X. If Red really wanted to use spec moves on a Mega Zard, he really should've just given it a Charizardite Y. And if he really wanted to use a Zard X, he never should've given it any spec moves or SpA buffs. If it was a Zard Y, though, I'd prob end up liking it more than Redlax.
Hats off to Zinfogel for shutting up people who bashed Spark only on his opinion on a mere game. As a huge Red fan I loved this video. But I am not considering caking SS red becuz cake is rare lol.
My current mindset of mostly ignoring limited strikers unless favorite trainers / pokemon are involved (haven't pulled for any MF strikers after Ash for example. The ones of other roles are far more valuable imo) stems with my lack of usage of OG SS Red. Since I got him last of the Kantrio and in a triple rerun after already getting the other 2 (didn't have any beforehand, 1st anni was cruel), at that point I already gotten used with using the stuff I already had and then slowly gravitated more towards using / pulling mostly faves while occasionally investing in good techs and supports for general utility. And I got him shortly before Leon began redefining limited strikers so his time on top was already ending anyways. So I just beched him outside of gauntlet and very sporadic early csmm runs. And I only EXed him to match with SS Blue and Leaf whom did get quite a bit of use back then (nowadays it's only SS Leaf who still has contemporary use). Never bothered with dupes and he's only 2/5 because of a surprise dupe in a select scout multi. Since them I handle most fire content with OG Serena and both fire Hildas, and as major favorites I'm all the better for prioritizing them. Playing for long enough makes the favorites over meta mindset all the more real. This year the only "meta" MF pairs I went for were NC Rosa and Geeta, everything else were mild / secondary favorites that got their first alts or even base units. And that's far more satisfying imo.
SS red was one of the older sync pairs introduced in the game atp it’s only natural he’d fall off sooner or later but berating someone for an opinion on how they believe a character performs is wild, the Pokemon masters community never ceases to surprise me in all the wrong ways.
Funny you uploaded this, because I have had 1/5 red for the longest time and recently I was thinking 3/5ing him, I have been using 3/5 leon but he's getting more and more boring to use as of late so I was considering 3/5ing him, I'm not sure yet though
Do you have any other fire units? SS Red's strong but not the kind of unit most would describe fun, he's about one of the most generic strikers out there
Not Zinfogel, but probably Steven + Metagross. Having a worse sync due to Mega evolution isn't great, having like...No DPS modifiers outside of Power Chain is even worse, Bullet Punch Staggering 9 sounds fun but that's locked to 5/5 so I'm not toying around with that any time soon, the complete lack of permanent crit buffing until 3/5 is sad. At least he has a pretty neat sync...
@@bippythechippy882 This is fair, but I'd say the addition of the Battle Rally actually improves Metagross' value, as a Striker that can function as a tank for points. If we're accounting for move levels, I'd actually say Gloria is worse, as she isn't really worth using at all at anything less than 4/5, whereas Metagross does have some situations he works for; his greater survivability compared to the free Molayne and gimmicky Kimono Grimsley at least gives him a tiny niche, if you don't have the Solgaleo expansion. Both of them still have the opportunity to be saved by side expansions, though, like SS Cynthia + Kommo-o. Steven's lack of passives REALLY hurts, though.
I am gonna say it. You can't say with a straight face that SSRed's current placement makes sense when he is closer to SSHilda than he is closer to Leon, specially with the latter having a much closer performance (arguibly better) than SSRed

I just get livid when people put others down because they think their opinion is "better" or "objective" without seeing eye to eye with others.

Most People that follows the list for help are generally New players that need advice, they are the ones that would need the most some explanations as to why X sync pair is in Y tier. This is why some People from the ENG (and others) communities have a problem with SSRed's placement, it is highly misleading without an actual explanation, specially when you look at first glance and sees himself higher than other sync pairs than Jacq.
That's a fair concern. I think your perspective on what a new player needs is a little skewed though. A new player isn't looking for metagame reasonings on why a pair is S or S- tier. New players are barely picking up the game's framework and learning the difference between passives - not even teambuilding per se. This game's system is very overwhelming at first glance, so adding obtuse explanations on why New Year's Wallace or Volo improve SS Red is going to confuse them more. Simple tier lists work because they are simple. It's a quick reference for what makes content easier, and that does help new players looking to reroll for a good pair. I don't think calling SS Red a good Striker is misleading - there are better Strikers but Red is still good. Experienced players can infer the specifics. In-depth explanations would be nice, but that's asking for a different resource akin to a wiki, which is an unfair demand when the metagame shifts each update. It takes a team of people to maintain such a resource.

In that vein SS Lysandre is also a shit Striker because he has little utility besides Burned Down, yet he is above all of your examples. You can take those points to Spark if you'd like so you can hear what he has to say. Your thinking is different, but you also want to impose it as "better" to put down Spark, which is exactly what I'm complaining about.
