Model Traffic Lights Circuit | 555 Timer Project #15

- A tutorial on how to make a model traffic lights circuit using 2 555 timer IC's and a few other electronics components. This circuit turns ON green LED, keeps it ON for some time, then turns ON yellow LED for a moment and finally turns ON red LED for almost the same duration as the green LED. This cycle again starts from green LED.
Explanation of how this circuit works is also included in the video.

Components Required
* 2 x 555 Timer ICs
* LEDs: 1 Red, 1 Yellow, 1 Green
* Resistors: 100K, 47K, 2 x 330R, 180R
* Capacitors: 2 x 100uF
* Breadboard
* Few Breadboard Connectors
* (5-12)V Power Supply

Help! This is a useful video and I set it up on the bread board and it worked fine, I want to use this on a model train where the input voltage is 24v. I set it up with a bridge rectifier and an LM2596 buck convertor so I can trim the output voltage but it doesn't work.
Any idea on this would be appreciated.

how would one replace the mini black things with a full sized timed relay?

Sorry, a project with hall sensor as switch on off, a trimmer for setting time and pin 3 exit connect to relay or mosfet?

Hey add 3.3k and 100ohm resistor in series with the 2nd capacitor,since when i made connection i faced problem of both red and green led are on at the same time but i tried above solution by increasing some resistance of 2nd capacitor from pin 2 on 2nd ic and it works perfectly
Hello Sir. Can you tell me how many seconds the leds are on? Example Red 8 sec / red and yellow 1 sec / 6 sec green / 1 sec yellow / and again red.

Just to warn you, be careful what capacitor voltage you use. I used a 35 volt capacitor and it destroyed the 555 timer. This guy used 16 volt capacitor. Just a heads up
If i use 25v capasitor, it's safe?

For everyone whose lights are not operating properly, the circuit diagram has a problem. The resistor should be connected with the pin 3 of second IC and then the anode of green led. That is the mistake in the circuit. In the circuit diagram, resistor is connected to the ground at the end, which is wrong. Also I used 470 ohm with red led, 220 ohm with yellow led and again 220 ohm with green led.I hope it helps, best of luck.

@@BareenaDeshmukh I first made it on bread board and now I’m shifting it on pcb. If you need any help, I can help you out. Because this little thing took me days to get solved and was a constant headache. So I don’t want anyone else to go through that😂

I built this on a PCB. When I hook up power, the green led goes on for a while..then it goes off...none of the other LEDs go on...and then the green comes on again.... What should I check? Thank-you
I think the second 555 ic is not powered/configured properly. What is the voltage you are using?

For those who are having a problem with yellow led suddenly not turning on, try to follow the "schematic diagram" itself and do it to your own breadboard. it works for me now.
