Vineyard Workers Race Overnight To Save Grapes From Approaching Fires | California Wildfires

- As the second largest wildfire in California’s history ravages the state, vineyards in Sonoma County rush to harvest grapes before the smoke can ruin their crop. Since August 15, 1.6 million acres in California have burned - an area the size of Delaware. There are also fears that the coronavirus pandemic could spread among agricultural workers as the fires burn.

Vineyard Workers Race Overnight To Save Grapes From Approaching Fires | California Wildfires
Anyone who criticizes farm laborers in any way, has no idea just how hard it is to harvest produce from the land. It is painstaking, hard physical labor that doesn't pay well. It also requires skill, endurance, and guts to pick the produce quickly and efficiently for hours at a time in the hot sun. I have nothing but admiration and respect for all the people who work on farms and grape vineyards. 💕
who cares,they need money so they are working anyone works for there food,wine is luxury product its not something that is a medicine that cures human diseases , its their job and they work for money thats it
@@NAvArS12345 someone does not know how the world works here 🙂🙂. Physical labour is hard work and less pay and not only that these people dont get treated well in society also. Positivity is always needed, you don't need to be an emopath to the feel for this ppl like the person above has but basic decency. God bless you
The Mennonites of German ancestry do the same in Mexico and live better than their Hispanic counterparts.
@@mycrafts7207 Hello, your response is wonderful. 💕 Now more than ever, we need kindness toward one another.
I worked for 5 hours on a friend's organic farm one hot summer morning a few years back. I thought it would be fun. We pulled radishes and carrots in the hot, hot field, bent over with sweat running down our faces. There is a specific way they are pulled, they needed to be quickly examined, some weren't suitable to sell. After we had several pulled, they were transported to a washing tub where we carefully rinsed the produce. Then they were bundled in bunches and this had to be done carefully so the greens weren't smashed and ruined. Afterward we brought them to a shed where they were put in plastic bags and kept cool for the market. My back, neck and hips were so sore! I'm very grateful I had that experience with my teenage daughter. I will never forget it. Our country would be a different place, and certainly more honoring and kind to all the people who work so hard to bring fresh grown food to market. While grapes grown for wine are in a different category, it is still a livelihood for all involved and certainly a pleasure to enjoy wine. The people picking the grapes work every bit as hard.
My heart goes out to everyone affected by these fires. To all the people who've lost their homes, their farms, their ranches, their vineyards, their very livelihood...my deepest prayers to you.
DSK You sounds like someone who doesn’t know what it’s like to put in a long physical day of work. If you have I hope you could admit vineyard workers deserve respect just like every other craft out there.
Working at a restaurant, typing at a desk, and even other agriculture work is nothing like being on a picking crew which requires detail, speed, and endurance to get a massive amount of work done in a very small amount of time.
Can’t imagine the pressure seeing that light coming from a distance.
God with them!😭
How fast they were working, amazing.
Let's pray so the angels can help them to do the harvest completely and safe.
The wine will be diferent quality but still good.
It's in CO. . . My phone won't even take a perfect picture of all the smoke.
I live in New Mexico. We can't even see our east mountains from the smoke that's coming from the wildfires in California.
Need more vids of farm labor workers going threw this epidemic and fires. They are true heroes feeding the nation. Low pay, hard working labor, and now fire smoke and a virus. Damn.
They're not harvesting them for food dude, they're for making wine.
not only that but Santa Cruz has extremely fertile sandy soil home to farms that feed ppl as far as the UAE. not for awhile now. G-d grant us repentence back to the cross of Your Son, Yehoshua, Jesus.

13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

5 And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.
6 And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound.
7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood;
9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
10 And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters;
11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.
12 And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.
13 And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!
Zephaniah 1:14-18
14 The great day of the Lord is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the Lord: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.
15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,
16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.
17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.
18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the Lord's wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

I dont think so
Margins are extremely thin in any type of agriculture. Good luck finding money for hazard pay. It's just the nature of the industry. Don't let the pretty buildings and equipment fool you.
As a Napa Valley resident and member of the wine industry/community I would like to say thank you for an accurate depiction of the challenges and complexities we are facing this Harvest which is wrought with disaster and pandemic. The community here is strong and bands together to support our neighbors, friends and most importantly our Latino brothers & sisters who make up the majority of our labor force. One of the hardest parts is showing the rest of the world what is actually happening beyond just a sound bite and this piece is the best reporting I’ve seen on where we are in the 2020 vintage. Thank you again.
Praying for all those suffering through these hard times! Especially those workers working against time!
They deserve a respectable wage and good healthcare. They're trying to save their harvest when a large wildfire is a MILE away and working in that heat.
