Actually some American tapes came in cardboard slipcovers, while some came in clamshell cases (mostly kids movies).
Edit: And the Century 2000 Collection wasn't just family films. There are multiple Century 2000 promos.

The US vhs version I had of this film featured the same Scooby Doo and the Alien invaders trailer and before it was a preview for the Iron Giant and then after it was that Batman Beyond teaser. All three of which had this kind of ominous feel as a kid 😅.
Also, yes I thought Mary-Kate and Ashley were there separate people as a kid too, and it's funny how I discovered them and their films simply because of previews like this 😅.

I had switched to DVD by this point, and for whatever reason those seem to get straight to the menu much more quickly, at least for these early Pokemon movies.

I hope you come across a US copy of Spider-Man (2002) someday. That was one of my favorite movies as a kid, along with the sequel

I remember that tape so well. My mom got it for cheap when I was five and very very sick sometime in 2007 and I remember sitting on the floor in her room watching it with some hot tea and a box of tissues

Those Powerpuff Girls VHS tapes were some of the best tapes I owned. They really jam-packed those tapes with content. Five Powerpuff Girls episodes and occasionally an episode of some shorter show at the end
Also, that Batman Beyond Return Of The Joker trailer scared the shit out of me when I was a kid. I used to mute my tv when it came on. It must’ve been on some other tapes too, cause I definitely didn’t have the Pokémon one tape iirc. I had it on DVD, and the DVD content was different.

Yeah, I think you guys were spoiled in America with some of the added content on the Cartoon Network tapes. And I can see how the trailer might have spooked a kid - the ominous tone with the Joker's laughter was probably kind of creepy. 🙂

That BB trailer actually has nothing over the one trailer that actually showed Joker flashing on screen for a few seconds while his menacing laugh is going and the music acts usually

Surprised they kept the Kids' WB branding on the film itself when marketing replaced all instances of it with the Family Entertainment branding mostly overseas......
Which was also done on the US release in spots while also retaining the KWB branding (also the animation used for the logo card on the films is actually an animation used in the block's bumpers at the time)

Yeah, I always found it quite strange when I was younger that the Kids WB logo was still present on the UK tapes. I used to think, "What is Kids WB? How can I get it?!" 😆

Wish we got those Powerpuff video tapes in the UK. Hope you get to Batman Beyond someday!😃

Yeah, I love Batman Beyond - if I'm not careful, I'll end up reviewing the whole show. 😄

Something else I would have like to know is what came with the USA vhs, with my uk vhs copy of the movie it has a leaflet advertising pokemon products you can buy. Did the American one have anything like that?

    • @BacktothePast
      @BacktothePast  3 місяці тому +1

Nope, no leaflets in the box in my copy! Unfortunately. 😆

@BacktothePast ahh shame, american ones usually have stuff like domino's vouchers etc and since it was wb kids maybe some tie in with that. Oh well 😅

    I have a question
Ever heard of the video player juice box by mattel
It has a line of cartridges that plays early 2000s stuff, cartoon network, and 4kids shows (hey a connection to pokemon)
Juice box flopped most likely due to competition to video now and the game boy advance video
You might be asking it could be because of the picture quality but is it any worse than that of the video now
Well somehow yes as the juice box ran for less frames per second
Juice box clearly never caught on but it did gaina cult following over the years

I've heard of VideoNow and Game Boy Advance Video, but not the Mattel one. I would like to cover obscure video formats like that one day, though, as it's pretty interesting how they had to squeeze shows/movies onto a handheld console in such primitive fashion, so I'll keep them all in mind! 🙂

I enjoyed your 1st vhs comparison of Pokemon The First Movie. Maybe in the future, can you do another comparison to A Goofy Movie from the UK, and from the USA? Thank you😊
