You all have the right concept. Family compound. Stay close and keep the kids even closer. Make sure your brother Can tell he’s learned from any mistakes and understands turning errors around. Make sure he keeps his next move his best move. Don’t share too much. But since he doesn’t have social media… yet that’s a plus. He’s awesome and on the right track! 💪🏾

We watched as manufacturing Jobs went away, money went away, other smaller jobs and buisnesses went away, then houses and property went away, and finally The People went away. This type of decline was on purpose, no accident. "They" want their nwo even if it takes decades. As a Toledo resident, 1 hour south of Detroit, we watched as our city felt the economic downturn just like everywhere else. The larger cities like Detroit and even Toledo survived the first stage of the economic attack and we are just now entering into a new Phase of it. Part 2. Stay tuned. 😢🤔😡🤬🔥🇺🇸

Yep, Americans from all walks of life share the same stories when you get right down to it. But the powers that be like to keep us divided. • @tnyeager
      @tnyeager Рік тому +15

I noticed the parallels, too. Not only the history of a draining major industry and the effects of poverty, but also how the people who succeed keep hope, are willing to work hard to improve themselves and support their family. Family is huge. Hospitality and kindness to everyone, unless they try to hurt you or yours, then they'll take care of what they need to (and they won't need to call the police!). Even the same speech patterns (e.g., "You know what I'm saying?" "You know what I mean?").
There's more that unites us than divides us. Those who try to tell you otherwise either don't know what they're talking about, or they're not to be trusted.

Since then I never take the bus without my bicycle. I work at Jefferson north assembly and take the bus everyday...it's bad...I was almost robbed last Monday 1am at scotten and west grand, dude walked up very slow towards me I knew he was about to rob me, I hopped on my bike and rode to the next stop, soon as he seen I was leaving he yelled asking for a light! Ya no thanks man....u can't ride a bike more than an hour before u get a flat because half these people ride around smoking blunts and tossing liquor bottles out the window so the sidewalks are covered in glass. Here's something typical by I seen yesterday at the gas station, woman come out with a new born baby and throws it on the lap of a 5 or 6 year old in the passenger side, no seatbelt no car seats, she gets in the driver's and side lights half a blunt, cranks the gangster rap until the entire car was buzzing and rattling and destroying the kids ears, then speeds off over the curb....place is a hell hole these people care less about this city and constantly destroy it. The phrase American dream used to mean something to the world, it's kinda become a sick joke now. Of all developed countries, the US has the lowest social mobility...... These works provide a distorted view at best. They are entertainment, not real life. They present an extremely narrow perspective of the world, heavily influenced and filtered by the person making the video and the individuals willing to be recorded.
It’s strange to me how reverent people are towards something I consider junk food. Most of this guy’s videos are just ads with some neat camera shots. The narrative often serves as a shield for Peter to carefully inject his opinions as questions, tempering any potential blowback from either the person he’s talking to or the court of public opinion.

I live near Toronto. It's really sad about what happened to Detroit because Toronto and Detroit are similar cities in many ways and the two cities kind of moved in opposite directions. They both used to be about the same size (Toronto is now much larger), both are on the Great Lakes and both are pretty connected to the auto industry (although most of the car plants in the Toronto area were always in the outer suburbs). Even the old architecture looks very similar, but most of those lovely large older homes in Toronto within the city were maintained or restored and are now worth millions. I suppose part of the difference relates to how Toronto was never a one industry town. As well as automotive and other manufacturing, we also have lots of work in financial services, government, technology and other industries. I'm hopeful Detroit can successfully reinvent itself, bring people and jobs back to the city and combat poverty. We have our own problems in Toronto (particularly a lack of affordable housing), but I realize how lucky we are.

Just like the one guy said, there were people of several nationalities living there. On occasion I'd hear, what are you doing down here by yourself and they'd laugh. I was a skinny white kid (Native American) from the other side of 8 mile. There were so many diverse ethnic food restaurants it was hard to decide what to eat. Lots of Greek food back then.
I recognize many of those areas you went to. The two times I witnessed bad crime were both on Michigan Ave. A stabbing and a shooting.

Not getting caught up in the craziness of other major cities is a key point. During the summer of riots that nearly burnt some portions of some cities across the country down, Detroit had a no nonsense policy. There were protests, but the police and the locals (even if they were amongst the protests) both were proactive in shutting down any shenanigans from suburbanites coming in to destroy a city that's not theirs. Detroit has lost 1,000,000 plus people. One of the great mega trends in America is from cold ass, declining Northern cities to the Sunbelt. The Industrial Age is over and Detroit lacks innovation / tech related capital. There are TENS OF THOUSANDS of abandoned houses in the city. I’m a native NYer and people have been saying the same about Buffalo for years. We are still waiting for it to happen. This reminds me of people who buy those stupid penny stocks or moribund companies. They are all cheap for a reason. These Detroit videos are great. But there are totally other areas of Detroit besides shiny downtown and "the hood" you should cover too.
A number of neighborhoods have remained in great condition (University District, Palmer Woods, Sherwood Forest, Aviation Sub, Jefferson Chalmers, Indian Village, West Village, East English Village, Springwells, Mexicantown, Russel Woods, Boston Edison, Lasalle Gardens, Rosedale Park, Woodbridge, Old Redford)
There are many other touristy business areas that have seen similar upgrades as downtown like Midtown, Corktown, New Center, Eastern Market, Core City and Livernois Avenue of Fashion.
And there's the Riverwalk, Dequindre Cut and recently started construction of the Joe Louis Greenway that will connect those to many of the other neighborhoods that haven't seen the same kind of investment as previously mentioned areas.

He went to the west side spots you mentioned like University District, Palmer Woods, etc. He didn't go to the East Side areas. Detroit has a lot of space to cover and the video was already 45 min. I thought this video was well done and the person he was with did a good job summarizing Detroit as it is right now and many people's attitudes. When i saw this video I was worried about how he'd have with him, but I think this was a well done video and did a pretty good job of showing the good stuff of Detroit without avoiding or trivializing the issues. It is probably why he didn't focus on the east side and there is way more "ruin porn" type videos he could have shown but chose not to.

Beautiful to see people trying to rebuild the community and opening up their hearts about it on film.

Hey Peter, please talk to and tour the city with someone older who knows the history as well, or Jamon Jordan is Detroit's first appointed historian. A huge reason why the city continued to fall was due to a lot of corrupt city/state officials, and banks. Millions of dollars, if not billions of over assessment and taxation of city homes causing residents to lose their homes and many left the city. Not to mention we have a lot of illegal dumping from outsiders contributing to the blight problem that we already have. John George of Motor City Blight Busters is a good person to speak to on that matter. It's coming back, yes, but baaaby, the story behind it is ...REALLY SOMETHIN' to say the least. I could go on but, I digress.

I had some family tell me one of the guys who was running Detroit (some mayor or something I don’t remember his position. I was really young) was misusing the money and using it to buy drugs and prostitutes. I could def. see something like that happening but I’ve always wondered how true it was and if there was more going on.

I have to be honest, 45 min is usually too long for me to watch a video BUT..... this was absolutely fantastic. The people you interviewed were awesome and I hope they continue to see the improvements happening in Detroit.

That’s not Detroit proper, that’s one of the many ghetto suburbs. The city itself has areas far denser, decrepid, and far more dangerous. Bullet proof glass is common in stores and gas stations etc. Detroit used to be a city of 1.5 million people, now it’s been reduced to around 500,000. There are neighborhoods over 100 years old that are condemned or being squatted in, that look like WWII rolled through. The only thing I’ve seen that is worse, would be Baltimore. Detroit can be an extremely dangerous place, it was the murder capital of the country in the 90s, especially if your white (I was born in Detroit). I haven’t been to downtown in a while but it’s kind of doable during the day at least it was in the early 2000s, at night definitely not.
