oh lard i had a french box easel ! - great for pastel work - gave it away after switching to oil cuz it was too heavy & clunky to tote out . A quick sketch mini box-palette is a lidded plastic box + a bottle of water, 5x7" sketchbook & 4 brushes for quick grayscale acrylic sketches.
Thanks for sharing Colley. Appreciate the tips about light travel (unlike the French easel). You must go through a lot of Phthalo Green! Unusual for such a powerful colour? Love the Archival range BTW. So quick to dry for oils.
Yes, I’ve been using Archival Oils since 1990. Unfortunately their Titanium white has been withdrawn until they fix a concern. I love Pthalo green it gives me such a wide range of Greens.
Great setup. I once hiked for 5days along the Wild Coast in South Africa with all my painting kit. Never did a painting on that trip, but it was a great experience nontheless. Would like to hear about those aspects of a scene that inspire you to stop and commit to painting it.
Hi Colley, a nice video 😊 two short questions 1) what is the name of the outdoor easel 2) how long does it usually take until your color is dry with your fast-drying paint Medium? Best regards Nils
Hi Colley Take care painting under those gum trees ( widow makers ) on a windy day those big branches can be leathal.🙂Wish I could set up that quick it might get me off the verandah.
I use Dick Blick’s Archival Oils for my paint and medium-unfortunately they’ve had an issue with the titanium white, so it’s not available at the moment.
Titanium White • French Ultramarine Blue • Phthalo Green • Yellow Ochre • Light Red Ochre • Cadmium Yellow Medium • Cadmium Orange • Cadmium Red Light (Scarlet) & Permanent Alizarin.

We’re planning a video later this year about this topic, hope you stay tuned.

1. Alla Prima Pocharde Box, Yellow Stone Lite (11X4) 2. The medium drys within 24 to 48 hours.
Hope that helps
Yes thanks a lot!

Movie magic.
Thanks! If possible it would be great to know the sizes, brands and colors you use, too.

every time I buy the lean archival medium it dries and hardens up in the bottle. making it useless. very frustrating
On the side of the bottle, it should state that you need to pour the medium into a smaller bottle, reducing the amount of oxygen exposure.
