I studied here in fall '14. I landed in Tokyo knowing only about a dozen words (and mispronouncing half of them) and left six weeks later with the ability to carry on a normal conversation. I posted a short video of my trip if you want to see more and would be happy to answer any questions!

I completely recommend it! I met lots of people there who didn't even knew how to say hello at the beginning! You won't have any problems there. Japanese people are so nice, and they will try to help you even if they can't understand you. Give it a go :)

Hi, I'm going to EF Tokyo in September and I was wondering, do the teachers speak any English? Granted I know it is an immersive course to learn Japanese but I was just wondering if the teachers or staff at the school spoke English. Also was curious as to how the course structure is!
The teachers speak English of varying degrees - some are basically fluent and some are not very fluent. For sure there will be staff at the school who speak good English if you feel you need somebody to speak with about anything. Including the school director. Matt @EF UA-cam Team

I am an adult women. How is the EF accommodation? Do we have to share kitchen and to buy the items. And what aout the restrooms 🚻 do we also have to share them?? Especially individual room.

I have been dealing with them for over 3 month. If I was you I would find another company. It has been a crap show. Just a bad experience so far and my daughter has even left yet.

I am here now and I must say it is a didactic nightmare. In the video I can see really good books to learn japanese they don’t use in 2023 EF Tokyo is a disaster

Since the shortest time period (that I'm aware of) is 6 months long, how would a high school student usually manage this, seeing that it overlaps with the normal school year?
Hello Andrew, EF offers both short and long programs. On the "EF Languages Abroad" program you can study from 2 weeks up to 52 weeks. And then after graduation you can study on the "EF Language Year Abroad" where you study either a semester or a whole year abroad (6, 9 or 11 months). Good luck!

I really want to go. I'd like to know more about the host families. Do you stay with one family alone or do other students stay with you too in the same host family?
Well, I believe in Tokyo you stay at a host family in a single room (you won't be sharing it with anybody). however if there will be other students present, I think that depends on how much the family can take in and how many students there are. I personally believe that you will be the only student in a host family in Tokyo, since you always get a single room with the host family. I'll be going in September so when I know more I'll be sure to let you know if you're interested.

voy en enero y hay tres fechas. podes quedarte 4 o 6 semanas (yo 6) y te quedas en un campus con desayuno y cena incluido (creo que igual esta la opcion para no campus). es clases de 4 horas todos los dias (los findes no) y dspues tenes toda la tarde libre. osea te manejas completamente solo basicamente
