I went to Stockwell Manor School between 1971 and 1975.......in fact,I was in the same year as the 2 boys sitting in the front desk that the camera focuses on. John Cumberbatch and Tony Cooke ( RIP 🙏). Still in touch with John and the class has set up a fb group. They were good days .....
This really took me back...excellent footage of our old school when it was called Stockwell Manor - the words are very thought provoking, very raw and very resonant indeed...
HI, my name is Robert proud.i went from courmont road school to stockwell manor. teachers had no time for kids tha needed extra help.like many other kids I was told you wont do well in life.i did ok, became a building contractor, became a firefighter but I would have liked extra help at school my email address is hrcproud@gmail.com if you or any of your mates knew me please get in touch .take care.
@@harryproud9679 I don't think I knew you Robert - I was there until 1975/6. My surname - charles. Well done for achieving in your building career & firefighting. Sounds like despite the lack of support at school, you did ok.
@@harryproud9679 - Hello there. I suspect you were at Stockwell Manor a few years before me. I was there from 71-75. I agree with what you say about the school not providing adequate help to kids who were at risk. I'm glad to hear that you did well for yourself. I wish you and your family all the best.
I was at Stockwell manor from 1961 until 1965, and was in Molyneux House - didn't like the academic side, but enjoyed the sports on offer. Eventually got expelled for truanting, and it took a while to get over the sense of failure. High spots were the school camps in Castletown (Isle of Man), and another in Holyoke (the Wirrall). Not unhappy when it was demolished, as the architecture was typically awful late 50's design. Loved the diversity though, and some of the teachers were excellent.
Footage like a time warp, taking one momentarily right back. Mixed thoughts/memories of this school both good and bad , as allot happened, and ole man (rip) was at one point chairman of governors there. Was also in attendance during the so-called rough period between 1983-1988. Wow, is all I can now say. During my time , not many of us learnt much there for a multitude of reasons, including obviously ourselves and an inadequate system. Took many more years to rectify, and can recall a handful of strange 'Sleepers' like events, in somewhat depth only, that took place here. A guy called Ben, beaten by yes, whole. School, teachers having affairs lol, bullying etc, and even a pitch battle between local Vietnamese who pulled up in convoy of cars after one of their own seemingly attacked. Let's not forget MC Hammers visit.. Tbh, Stockwell Park at least during my time was Wild West. School better off demolished and consigned to history, but this also oddly somehow holds it in even more stronger sted and sentiment, for me , 10 siblings , and fam associated with it.. Nonetheless, for the good it did do and happy memories, big up Stockwell Park..
@@Snip3rG33 couple yrs ahead of me then and sis was in year below u with the oConnors and Cooper's etc.. Did some research few years back and lucky enough to stumble across it. Footage transcends time in not only depicting school as it was then, but also surroundings, brickie and Stockwell as it was then...

My old school. Started there in 1971. Happy days. There’s truth in the narrators words.
breaks my heart to see the old school demolished
