Thank you! I was born in Lambeth & grew up in Brixton, my parents lived there from the early 1960's to when my dad who survived my mum moved in with me in 2010. I had moved from Brixton some time before. Although Brixton has changed in some places dramatically it is still recognisable by it's many landmarks. I will always have Brixton in my heart.

@@EpicAelflaed I lived in Brixton for 39 years and moved away as I got married. Not that I have to justify why I left Brixton to you. Move on!

Do you remember Times Furnishing, my parents went there in 1952 to purchase some items long before we actually moved there.

Lived in Brixton from 1965 to 1977, i remember the rollerskating ring at the start of Tulse hill opposite the George Canon pub, Gingers the chip shop, john the green grocer an irish guy, in acre lane as well as the Hope public house on the corner of St matthhews road and you still had the pre-fab little bungalows, i wont bore you any more.

Wow @2:11 look how beautiful it was, same as many places in London now, lovely old classic dignified shop fronts replaced with big plastic 'bet fred' or 'iceland' signs.

To Shane Thank you for this wonderful compilation of old photos new and old of how it used to be , Brixton is busy always day or night unlike other areas s, regret developers have ruined some partsi ncreasing rents on shops making them move out of area

Loved this walk through memory lane. I think the Black brothers walking past the Newspaper stand @2.55 were in fact, doing so from what looks to me like outside the front of OVAL Underground Sation.....Grateful for this reminder still.....Nice one... #brixtongothotsauce...Ouss

The Brixton bridge near M&S always used to change but now it stopped

Brixton has lost its heart, the developers and greedy corporations have moved in and now it's full of posers.

What period would you like it to go back to? Because unless you are EXTREMELY old, I don’t know what you’re talking about.
I am already 60 years old. was born in 1963 and so spent my youth growing up there through the 1970s and early 80s.
It was a filthy, impoverished, very dangerous, rife with crime, massive unemployment and open blatant racism (including and especially the Police).
So, either you’re VERY old and remember a time way before me or perhaps you need to take off those rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia?

@@derin111 thank you for your input. That’s interesting to read and gives me understanding of what it was like back then. They do paint a picture that is was great times back then.
You lived there and experienced it - no one can argue with that

Most of the born and bred have left most of London never to return it's seems the new London is Essex now as most Londoners have moved to Essex ,London is so gentrified and a different place today the place is unaffordable full of boring yuppies and middle class .

Really good video….free from judgements or criticisms of today. There is often a tendency for people to look back with rose-tinted glasses of nostalgia to a supposed “better time in the past” or “the good old days”. See the comments here.
I was born in 1963, so spent my youth growing up there in the 1970s and early 80s.
I, for one, do not really lament the way it was then. Dirty, impoverished, very dangerous and rife with open and unashamed racism including…or rather especially (!)…. the Police.
