@@artca9508 I agree except with workshop. 3D has a significantly higher barrier of entry as compared to Rivals 1's workshop, I have plenty of friends who made workshop characters who while they are artists aren't coders, I didn't because I don't like working with pixel art. I do however have 8+ years of experience with 3d modeling (modeling, sculpting, animation, you name it) and am competent enough at coding since my actual job as a net admin/net security analyst is tangentially related, even then the fastest I could maybe manage to make a character is about 2 months if I made it my job and worked on it 8+ hours a day 7 days a week. Modeling takes a very long time, on top of that animation is hardly the only thing you have to worry about, and even animation is more complicated in RoA2 because the game isn't locked to 60fps and making a character feel good at higher framerates gets exponentially harder past 60fps. For the simple things you have the character's speed and gravity which are as simple as changing some integers, but for the more complex you have hitboxes (which is always trial and error and needs to be tested extensively), morphs (for things like disjoints and to make things feel/look smoother with animation) and a fair/balanced movelist. This is just a teeny, tiny little fraction of the work that goes into making a character for ANY fighting game, making a custom character in Risk of Rain 2 or something like a VRC model is a cakewalk compared to making one for RoA2, Tekken, SF6, etc. With all the extra elements needed in balancing and making an FG character feel good it's a painful, slow, tedious process if you don't have a team working on it. It's not as dead as NASB2, but it definitely did fail. The amount of people playing it and the rate at which people drop it won't be enough to support the game long term, I expect it to be shut down again in the next 5 years just because it won't have enough people to monetarily sustain it unless it gets a huge resurgence. It's really sad to see, they had something good for both casual players and competitive players and for some reason they frankensteined it, replacing it's guts with greedy monetization and making it a sluggish, dumbed down ghost of it's former self. To this day my favorite platform fighters (Aside from Melee/PM/P+) are RoA1/RoA2 and Rushdown Revolt, though sadly despite how fun/unique RR is, it's as dead as you can get. If you ask me in order for any fighting game to succeed you need a good game that appeals to casual players and top level players, monetization that isn't insulting, a publisher/dev team that communicates with their community and participates on both the casual and 'professional' scenes and you need exposure to a broad audience via advertising. RR failed at everything but monetization (and communication with it's community) since the game wasn't very casual friendly, but Rivals 2 is 99% of the way there. In a Q&A the publisher for Rivals 2 addressed advertising, they know most melee players have at least heard of RoA2, their focus is going to be gaining an audience of players from outside those communities whilst still actively supporting the competitive scene. @@artca9508 well said bro well said. ♥️
I started actually playing melee 6 months ago and realized that mid level sweats and try hards make this game incredibly unfun. Ive tried playing fox, falcon, Marth and Falco and I'm okay with all of them but I still get lamed by almost every character in the game. It sucks 😔
Edit : To clarify by actually playing I mean like trying to improve and get good at melee and smash instead of being a audience member
The UI/UX leaves a lot to be desired though.
@@DreamcastSoupYT Yeah, it's not really worth it. I just play a 'balance' mod of the game I made in 2020 if I boot it up anymore with my friends. I might be interested in making a full on mod to remedy Melee's inherent issues if the game ever gets decompiled (25% done! So maybe in 2030 lmao).
I started playing Link more to deal with the camping meta of the ranked cunks. And now have just found him to be my favorite character by far in the game. Too bad he's too slow with committal ass moves lmao.
This has 70k views but somehow rivals only has 11,000 concurrent players. That’s so sad
11k concurrent is great for an indie fighter! There are some AAA multiplayer shooters that don't have that.
That number is actually really fucking high. And it's only getting bigger.
ya i would LOVE to play a game i dont go 0 - 10 in as well LMAO
Rivals 2 animations are all amazing EXCEPT zetterburn. he's so stiff, am I the only one?
probably because he's always the first one they make. same situation in the first game until they updated him
@@3three3three3three I think you're right, I had the same thought
Lawsuite is incoming for patented game mechanics.
Damn, didn't realize how much mango would swear during matches. Really off putting.
the pirate mothership will be underwater for until the giant pyramid gets built, warioland 4
jk
just watch it
you know what i mean
how is this game even legal
Because of how good it is?
If you mean because it is similar to smash, it is like saying battlefield would be illegal for copying COD or even DOOM lol
