I got lost one time in California, pulled over in Bakersfield, I was crying in my car because I was trying to get to a place where my son was having a reception. This trucker told me I was going to be alright, he had finished his stop, then said follow me. I had no fear but felt that he was a good man who did want to help me. He honked where I needed to get off the road, after he instructed me my road map. God bless this dear truck driver. I got to where I needed to go in peace and sooner than I had imagined. God bless our truckers!!!! Hugs. Navajo Grandma

As a child, my granny and grandad’s house was right beside the red rose flour mill. Many memories of that place. Grandads apricot trees shaded the road to mr roses mill. Grandaddy had a fruit stand. Lots of folks came for flour and stopped for fruit. What wonderful memories

ALL tribes in North America have frybread! Cannot ban it!! I use avocado oil but not to fry with. I thought avocado was not fry able like olive oil. Glad to know! Never tried Bluebird flour. Never saw it in Michigan nor in Florida. But now I'm in Arizona so its good to know how good it is! So I must get that one next. Thankyou for all the great information! Miigwech🤗❤
Thank you Mikki Kas, I would like to give you a tip with avocado oil, warm it up slowly then test the bread pieces. This is a high point oil so be careful. Caution from your Grandma. Love you. Navajo Grandma

Ok! Let's see what I can do with this! Thanks Grandma! Oh and you look sooooooo much younger than you probably are! It's very hard to say how young you are because you have wisdom only a sage wise older person can have.
I am blessed to have two good friends. Good friends are like family. We’ve kept each other’s spirits up during this pandemic. We are isolated from our families here unless you live in the same household. Only seeing my sons and grandchildren when they come and stand outside the house. Hopefully the restrictions are being lifted soon. Blessings to you your videos are really interesting. 🥰 xx

I appreciate that you acknowledge how iodize salt is important. My dad was the one to switch us to iodize salt after he learned that it can cause health issues later in life, not many people know that 😊
Thank you for suggesting this video to me, glad I found it. I usually only use unbleached flour but bought some Bluebird at Cameron's restaurant and shop in Arizona for more authenticity. I only use Kosher salt for health. Thank you Native Grandma!
Hey Grandma! Chi-miigwech (big thank you) for your recipe! I made this for dinner tonight and my family came for 2nd, 3rds 🤣 point is, your recipe was perfect!

I will go now and see how I can order some Blue Bird Flour, no one in south Georgia carries it. I will take you word for it being the best, Navajo Grandma. I LOVE blue birds anyway!!!
I never tried it like I was betraying my mom and her Red Rose flour from the same company, milled the same..then I gave in when I kept hearing about its elasticity. Oh well I thought, well amazing grace, it was just as all Dine’ women celebrated about, just amazing. Now I am thrilled each time I make my frybread dough. It’s on Amazon as well or order direct from Cortez, Colorado. Navajo Grandma
Hope you enjoy and use whatever ingredients that are for you. Make this recipe yours and own it. Happy to hear from you. Let us know how it all turns out. Hugs from Navajo Grandma
Hi, thank you for answering all my questions. I hope I did not offend in my curiosity. I just wondered those things. Have a beautiful night! Much love! Ruth
Hi Grandma! I just want to comment on the Hain salt. I live in Georgia now and the humidity is usually so bad you risk drowning just taking a breath. I've used Hain salt for years but when I moved here it quickly became caked and rock hard from the humidity. You need a hammer and chisel every time you want to use it. I bought some Manishewitz kosher sea salt and it flows and tastes great. It doesn't have anti-caking stuff like the Mortons but still doesn't get hard. However it's not iodized. Just wanted to share my experience.
Thank you my dear Terry. True the Hain salt doesn’t have the anti-caking stuff, I love that. I put a cracker inside my salt container when we go to North Carolina. Or put a saltine cracker inside anything that cakes & it works. The cracker absorbs the humidity. Hope it helps you. Great comment!! Navajo Grandma your

Why thank you Gordon, although avocado oil is a high burn point, please be careful to make sure you warm up the oil slowly and not out of hand. That was my mistake when i first started using this oil. Amazing. Keep on being healthy. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
You are so welcome. Thank you for being so receptive and seeing there are other healthy ways to make frybread. This is now your recipe and make it however it makes you happy. Hugs and love. Navajo Grandma
Great video and thank you for sharing your ingredients to making a healthier fry bread. I grew up with it and back in those days we never thought much about the type of ingredients that would have a negative effect on our body. I agree with you on the Bluebird flour, it's a good flower to use to make fry bread. I'm going to try your ingredient suggestion and I'm sure it'll work for healthier lifestyle and maintain the Navajo Tradition.
Westly, why thank you (a big fat axhehee) for looking at this video. Be careful using the types of oil because the avocado oil is a very high point oil. You get that warm and its super hot. I tell others although it is a wonderful product, keep it warm and then move the heat up slightly and carefully. Its not like regular oils but very healthy. Thats if you think of using that oil, its very very expensive. I used it and almost lit my frybread to ashes instantly. That is called a high point oil. I also have gone to a natural food store to ask for other oils that are at a medium point and see what they advize. I appreciate that you see my point in this and how important it is for all of us in any cooking we do. Our bodies are sacred and we are intelligent enough to eat in moderation and not just buy junk food and think its healthy. The levels of salt in McDonald's and other go to places is awful. Then people add salt and jalapeno to it and good luck with your blood pressure and heart rate, it happens so quick as we are enjoying it our way. No more. I pray we all realize these wonderful ways of eating better. Naneeskadi is a better way to go as well as you are not frying you are baking on the grill. So much to learn and healthy. Keep up the good work. Navajo Grandma
Hi Navajo Grandma, Made your Fry Bread, it was really good. I had to use all purpose flour which we call plain flour because Amazon said there was a shipping problem when I tried to order blue bird flour. The fry bread is good on its own or could accompany any number of other meals. I’m 68 years old but never too old to learn so thankyou for teaching an old dog a new trick. 😂😂 ❤️ xx
So proud of you Marian, I love your name, I once had a friend by that name who went to the spirit world, my dearest friend and teacher. One of the most blessed woman I have know while raising my children. You can use whatever you can and you did and it all came out wonderful. Sending you hugs galore. Navajo Grandma, Sorry about amazon.
Raymond, don't we all. I always say and probably said to you already. "Don't get addicted please!!" We have frybread now and then but when we eat it, by howdy "we enjoy it." Yup. Glad you love frybread. Are you making it yourself or someone else?? Hahaha. Navajo Grandma
Thank you for the video. My kids and I are from Cortez where the flour is made and seeing the bag is what made me watch your video. We live in TX now but we have been watching your videos and using your recipe to make the fry bread. Here in TX no one knows what a Navajo Taco is which is really sad.
Sally you are so right and few do know what frybread is. I ate dinner with two of my subscribers and one of them wants to create a food truck and sell Navajo frybread. I think that is a good idea here in Houston. Navajo Grandma "EVERYONE NEEDS TO BE INNOVATIVE"

I made fry bread this week, but first I bought some heavy whipping cream, shook it in a jar to make butter, and then used the buttermilk in place of the water. It was very yum! Also now I have fresh butter this week.
Oh my if I knew where you lived I would come right on over and taste your wonderful butter. Its something that is easy to do and we don't even entertain it. I should make a video on it and you should send me your recipe. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
@@alphabetsoup6681 I definitely will as we will be getting clients in that area as well as South Carolina as well and Georgia n Florida. Cant wait!! I will let you know. Navajo Grandma
Terry as we all get older we can't eat like we use to and we actually desire to feel better so that is in the ingredients for those of us who want to make better choices. But that doesn't mean if you use whatever ingredients you use is awful, its a choice we all make and no matter, "it always tastes so good!!" Hugs to you always. Navajo Grandma
I love how you make an effort to use much healthier ingredients! 😀👍💞 FYI - Ghee (clarified butter) has a high heat point also, making it very good for cooking, and it is healthy! 🧡
I shall be waiting. Blessings. If you use the Avocado oil, please be careful, it gets hot really really easy, put it on low and gently increase the heat. Thats if you end up using that type of oil. Otherwise use whatever. Remember to put a little ball of dough in the hot oil to check the temp. If it turns brown quick, its not ready and turn the heat down. If it cooks in a timely manner and turns brown, its okay. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
I Love Fry Bead ! So Happy I found your channel ! Looking forward to trying Blue Bird Flour ! I've been baking/cooking for some 40 years. I agree with all your other Favorites , they are mine too ! Thank You SO Much !!!!
Oh my, I actually tried Blue Bird flour and I actually fell in love with it. It is wonderful with the elasticity and I can't believe I never wanted to try it. I used Red Rose from the same milling company all my married life. I am now converted. You will love it too. I know. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
I watched your videos on fry bread and made it for the first time. It took some figuring out how to spread the dough by tossing it on your fist and back to the other open hand. The first bread was small in diameter and they got bigger when I got to the end. Now they kind of have a funnel cake type taste and smell but more thick than a funnel cake. It's easy to make and not too bad whipping up. Fry bread is really good hot out of the oil. Then I cooked some ground beef. Got refried beans and salsa and topped the taco with cheese. You eat two tacos, well you are full.
@@NavajoGrandma thank you very much. Yes the more I do things the better I get. I agree all things are good in moderation. Especially with food you can get sick. I used to eat whatever when i was younger. I can't do that without paying some price.

Yes, and my warning I should have put on this video is that when you use Avocado or Peanut oil, please start with low low heat and let it heat up slowly to the temperature you need if using it. They both are super High Smoke Point. Yikes. I learned the first time I used it. Navajo Grandma

Celene, yes, I love Mother Earth, I love the outdoors as I always tell you all, its when my grandparents stopped and we were in a wagon that we camped and cooked outdoors. I just love being outdoors thats it. Its my setting. Hugs always. Navajo Grandma

It shouldn't be sticky. Add a little more flour if needed. Its great. Send me a note anytime and tell me your joy. I love it. Tell me how it came out. I send you the HAPPY song by Pharrell Williams. Thanks for the video. This past year I have learned to make tortillas after 34 years 😔 my daughter makes better bread than I do. 😅. Is the frybread recipe the same for tortillas? How much Avocado/Olive oil do you use?
T Jay you are such a wonderful papa!! Yes, this recipe is the very same for the frybread and I use 1/4 cup olive oil. I don't use avocado but I guess you can. I use avocado oil to fry the bread with. Blaze Hilton, how many of you subscribers have wished the same wish that I was your grandma. Well being online sounds so superficial but in essence I am your grandmother. I adopt you right this minute. I now have so many grandchildren sometimes grandma can't remember all of their names, but here again, I am still your grandma no matter what. I am here and will teach you the best I know from my Dine' culture and thank you for subscribing to Navajo Grandma, "your gma." Yes, that is hopefully what happens. There are healthy flour such as Almond flour that works too. So good though. Navajo Grandma
This was always a special treat when we were growing up, what we called theme were sopaipillas. , Fried beans, pork steaks, etc etc etc.😋
Love you grandma! I love that you educating everyone. I have a background in Sports Nutrition and I'm Vegan. Really enjoy this and I will be making a native taco with this!! yUM!
You can use almond flour and just going online I found more wonderful healthy substitutes you can use. I love your background in Sports Nutrition and being Vegan. Proud of you. Remain healthy is the bottom line. That is why I teach all my subscriber grandchildren to use moderation in all things as most are not vegan but to care for the food they ingest. Thank you grandmother. I'm trying to watch what I eat but never gave a second thought to the salt. Take care and enjoy your day!
Yes sweetheart salt is sodium that if eaten too much can cause diabetes, heart problems, etc. But then again anything can. Use moderation in all things and pray over your food and live a long life minus health issues. Drink plenty water too.

Thanks for sharing. Yup I love that mill that has been there quite a long time. Like going home as my grandparents drove there now and then too. If you are talking about Cortez. Navajo Grandma

Miigwech🤗❤

Some say you don’t need it but it’s not true. Just use a healthier version.
Thank you for suggesting this video to me, glad I found it. I usually only use unbleached flour but bought some Bluebird at Cameron's restaurant and shop in Arizona for more authenticity. I only use Kosher salt for health. Thank you Native Grandma!

When I saw the bottle of avacado oil on your first video of fry bread my search for who to watch was over. Deeply appreciate what you do.
Why thank you Gordon, although avocado oil is a high burn point, please be careful to make sure you warm up the oil slowly and not out of hand. That was my mistake when i first started using this oil. Amazing. Keep on being healthy. Hugs. Navajo Grandma
Yesss... I will start using these healthier ingredients..Thank You so very much ❤️
You are so welcome.
Hi Navajo Grandma,
Made your Fry Bread, it was really good.

All I can say is I am very very proud of you. Time will make it all perfect. Just don't get addicted. Hugs from Navajo Grandma
