Around 92 or 93, wwf came in my town, Yoko was feuding with Taker at the time. I met Yoko outisde in the parking lot, I shook his hand and he step on my foot while doing it, he felt bad and apologies to me. we spoke for like 5 minutes. nicest guy ever, totally killed his character with me tho, i could never hate him afterwards. really cool cat. R.I.P. Yoko.
the yokozuna and taker fued was early 1994
I’ll give Yokozuna credit, for a big man he could move. Not sure his weight at the time but he was fast for his size.
He was relatively young. If he were older, his agility & mobility would've been significantly less.
When he was the great kokina he was about 330 350, what rikishi said
@@williamwest9204 yeah I saw him as "Kokina Maximus" at was in that 350 range and moved better than Big Bossman, so fluid for that size.
He’s one of those guys whose ability was only appreciated years later. I remember thinking Vader was miles better because he could do a moonsault but guys who worked with Yoko were in awe of his agility, balance and conditioning before he passed the 500lb mark plus they said how safe he was. The guy was massively respected backstage in the mid-90s WWF, Probably more than anyone except the Undertaker
It's them island boy genetics I'm certain they evolved slightly differently to make them bigger and tougher than everyone else and with an amazing level of agility
Love the channel Dutch! Yokozuna was a favorite of mine.He seemed like he was great guy from all the stories I heard.miss him.
i like how dutch said "we show respect to the workers" and was dead serious. I always appreciate his take. I'd like to hear him calling Yoko's match at heroes of wrestling ppv
Corny said, the first banzai drop He took felt like a cushion.
But The legdrop, When yoko Was alot bigger, ruined his Neck. And He cannot turn his head like usual since then.
Yoko Was sadly addicted with eating.
IIRC the one that ruined his neck was a legdrop not a Banzai. Almost certain of that actually.
@@fayezfawzi3255 could be the leg drop. Yes.
he's also crushed some jobbers that annoyed him. There were times he would just let his feet slip
Yokozuna is my favorite wrestler of all time, and imo he was the greatest super heavyweight wrestler of all time. RIP.
I remember seeing Yokozuna vs Undertaker at a house show and when Yokozuna ran full speed into the turnbuckle it looked like the whole ring moved
When you're talking about yokozuna I remember seeing a match I don't know when it was but he went to do that bonsai drop he was holding on to the ropes and he actually broke the top rope from the turnbuckle when he was coming down that's pretty scary
Summerslam 1996 pre-show and it was a planned spot. Austin got the pin after Yoko fell.
@@StoryTimewithDutchMantell I think I remember that free for all
😄
I was always amazed of his athleticism & the way he moved in the ring for someone of his size, just phenomenal!👌
When he did the bonsai drop on enhancement talent it looked very stiff. Then watch the video of him doing the bonsai drop on Owen Hart and it looked very gentle.
Dutch describing 600lb life…..”i don’t know how they would have a boyfriend”😂
I remember Jim Cornette's video about Yokozuna. It was sad. Very sad.
Cornette had alot of storys about Yoko, since he managed him and send him to the weight loss hospital / was responsible for him. He told that Yoko got heavier because people would slip food in for him
Some of those early bonzai drops were brutal but when Yoko got it right, apparently it was the equivalent of being landed on by a pillow.....Amazing athlete for his size.
If you were a star, like Bret, crush, hacksaw, Hogan he was very easy on those drops. Put a no name jobber in there and he got squashed.
@@magilla2282 I'm pretty sure it was Vince telling him to really make it look like you are killing them
Yoko started off around 390 but according to Cornette, was close to 750 at his biggest when athletic commissions were refusing to let him wrestle. I think 500 is more realistic for Andre but heard he was 550 or so when he died
Kokina Maximus.
@@mkl62 He was around 390 when he joined WWE. 350 or so as Kokina. WWE originally billed him at 505 but soon took that up to 568
Cornette said he reached 802 pounds in his last WWF match in Survivor Series.
Yes pacific islanders do have a higher tendency to gain weight, probably part of their genetics, and what allowed their ancestors to survive (from the ones that have survived) the extremely long boat trips they took from southern Asia such a long time ago.
Pry has more to do with their diet
Yokozuna in 1996 looked to be over 650 lbs already. He'd get blown up very quickly from just walking.
he was 802 pounds in his last WWF match in Survivor Series.
WWF sent Yokozuna (and Vader too) to Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC to a be in Duke's weight loss clinic. It's a great facility, but a free will clinic, meaning you're on your own on a daily basis. You go in each day, learn and do what's asked of you, and then you've got the rest of the day to yourself. You don't stay in the facility. You stay at a hotel or some other lodging of your choice - with no supervision. Duke expects the patient to not sabotage the daily work they're putting in together. Problem is that NC is BBQ central and they have a regional chicken chain called Bojangles. I can totally see a giant dude like Yoko getting a tailgating-sized box (an actual available size) of Bojangles chicken and a gallon of sweet tea and take it back to his hotel room and easily devour it by himself. I live in NC, and that chicken is so damn good. I can absolutely understand why neither Yokozuna nor Vader lost a bit of weight in the heart of the Carolinas while they were supposed to be learning how to manage their diet and nutrition.
Yeah I lived in Raleigh for 6 years, that Bojangles is some kickass chicken. I live further south now and around here the Bojangles are just "ass".
A similar fate befell a good friend of mine and Yoko's relative... ROSEY.
There is an old TV show called Duckman and they wrote a comic years ago which sadly today seems to be the state of life today. Believe me watching it back then made you want to beat the guy up lol
It's like a family pack of 12 with one left behind. Hahahaha classic stuff
Yoko was already gone by the time I got into wrestling, even then as a kid I knew who he was pretty quick, even had a figure of him. But now with all this access on UA-cam and being older it's so sad hearing about Yoko and how many people tried to help him.. then the "sneaking the chicken into the clinic" thing and getting de-registered. It's what makes me so happy for people like Mark and Big Show who have slimed down (not that they were ever as big as yoko) but yeah, it's comforting seeing how healthy they look considering they were my big wonders as far as wrestlers go
I still watch Chapelle's routine on kids TV shows
Look up the history of those islands and you'll find out why they're so heavy. It's a sad story really which introduced diets they weren't accustomed to.
Exactly
I seen a documentary about it a few years ago
Yes!
Indian fry bread is big here in Oklahoma and is a staple but it’s also been a curse and responsible for a lot of obesity and diabetes among Native Americans because they’re genetics don’t tolerate it well either. It’s also food that was introduced to them on the reservations as a substitute for Buffalo.
Damn dutch just pissed off a whole people, 😂
Hah I’m fat and find him hilarious, some people just have a bug up their butt about things anymore
OMG! "I'm Rick James--!"
If only he hit the gym more often, he would've been a valuable asset in the attitude era
When Yoko debuted, that is the weight he should've stayed at. When he started to creep up into the 550's...560's then you knew he was in trouble. And ultimately it ended his life. And he was just 34 years old
He messed up Jim Cornette with a leg drop I think
I think most people dont realize that the heart is a muscle, and the harder it works, they larger it grows, but the problem is that it isnt a fibrous muscle like normal muscle, and the larger it grows the weaker the walls become, nm that the arteries blow out like high pressure through a weak hose. You have to know, though, being that big that youre heart will not last out.
Woah? So @3:00 you're saying that he was constipated during the last two years of his life?
I always thought the bonzai drop looked pretty bad. Looked like yoko was catching 90% of his own weight
Can u imagine seeing Yokozuna sitting at the bar, smoking tons of cigs, drinking like a fish, with a messy bun on his head, hair all disheveled....I'd leave the guy alone, for sure!
Jim Cornette said Yoko topped 800 just before the company let him go.
Dutch going on a tangent about 600LB Life lol
Pineapple MILK??? 😂 I KNOW WHAT HE MENT 🤣😃🤣😃 PINE CONE MILK 🍼💯
Joe Anoa'i (Roman Reigns) was a chubby dude until he got into wrestling. He probably would have kept growing if he didnt get into wrestling.
A lot of people got leaner in wrestling. Brian Pillman and lex Luger come to mind
As “ enhancement talent” I took it, survived it, then after walking through the curtains/gorilla position, Bobby Heenan came up to me and asked if I was okay, my reply- yes sir and thank you. Loved Bobby. Weeks later I watched the match and loved the commentary he did on it. My job was to make the fans believe he was a beast, well, mission accomplished. ua-cam.com/video/GRW_BEVzaZg/v-deo.html
So youre the guy who almost got killed by the Bonzai Drop? Wow 😵💫
How’s your neck
@@AlbertoGonzalez-xn1lw that was a lot of people lol
Almost everyone who he did that to could have been goners lol. I honestly hated the legit punches to the face he does when he had you in the corner.
ua-cam.com/video/GRW_BEVzaZg/v-deo.html
Respect for Mantell for not using the term jobber
Bret always said Yoko and Bam Bam were too big guys that didn't hurt you.
Yoko was eating deep fried turkey tails and dipping them in mayonnaise. Unfortunately it's not difficult to see why his weight increased even more.
James do you know if the yoko Austin spot I believe at KotR where the rope came off and he fell and Austin pinned him really fast, was a work or not? I'm figuring it was but if it wasn't then that would be the biggest example of him nearly falling on ppl
This was addressed 8 comments up by Dutch himself. Was a planned spot at Summerslam 96 pre-show.
I remember watching it live as a child and feeling sorry for Yoko because it definitely didn't seem planned.
A couple times? He used to squash the 'carpenters' all the time
I actually remember that Ricky Gervais bit! I think he said burger and fries rather than Doritos when I heard him say it but the joke's the same regardless.
I used to think about that- u could SEE that sometimes he actually landed full- force! Many years ago when he was called Kokina- he wasn’t nearly as fat!
Yokozuna at 400 lbs was an absolute wrecking ball . But he was not 400 lbs for long .
Yoko was thicc before thicc was a thing.😍
Yokos banzai drop was no joke … look back at some of those jobbers he crushed
3:35 - 3:43 😅
4:22 - 4:29 😂
This all boils down to self discipline by controlling what you eat
Except Yokozuna allegedly actually had a goal to break the Guinness world’s record for weight and wanted to get bigger, I don’t get it but he paid the price.
Yoko was awesome during the first couple years of his WWF run, however, his later years not so much due to consistently gaining weight throughout his entire WWF run. I heard he broke 800 pounds at some point. the heavier he got, the worse he got in the ring. RIP Rodney aka Yokozuna.
When samoans die they throw them back in the ocean to create more islands.
😂
👍👍
That show has saved some lives. They get free surgery. Its up to the person to follow the plan. Some are stronger than others
Its sort of like the hub bub about college ball players not getting paid, actually you’re getting a free $150k college education out of the deal. Likewise they might not be getting paid much for the show but getting 24/7 personal training for a few months and free room & board that saves your life is priceless.
He was bigger than Andre... For sure
"I'M RICK JAMES!"
No no no I think you find I'M RICK JAMES BITCH !!!
We show respect for our workers… this after calling Samoans fat people because of pineapple milk 😂
pineapple milk, coconut milk, whatever 😄yeah I caught that same inconsistency
I know big show was 418 pounds when he looked the best. I could see Andre at the 530 they listed him at in his autopsy report
R.I.P. Rodney
With the woke crowd comidy is ok; as long as it's making fun of conservatives, Christians, or white males.
They get 1500 per episode.
I have a very LARGE friend, he eats no more than i do, its just that after he gets done with work he dosent move again till his next shift, hes not large because he eats too much, its because he is so seditary, i mean no disrespect to him of course, i love him, hes my buddy! Just speaking the truth, im no picture of health either so i dont mean to sound judgmental
I always thought Samoans were big because the weight went straight to their butts, lool!
he had his moment in the sun. the sad fact of life is obese people don't live long without a lifestyle change to lose weight.
If being overweight is bad for your health how is Abdullah the butcher still alive?
andrea came down on jake roberts on his chest
Andre didn't weight 600 at all
Mabel v yoko v big show v andre fatal 4 way
Dutch is talking about not liking censorship..but says you can’t use the word “jobbers” for jobbers rofl wtf
Men of Samoa and American Samoa are taller on average than men in the 50 states, but yes, most of the size difference isn't height. Samoans are the most muscular ethnic group on the planet, according to SOME studies, but most of that size isn't muscle either. Still Samoans tend to be less sedentary than men of the 48 states, so they aren't less healthy, in most cases, in spite of all that fat.
I'm starting to notice that Jimmy uso is putting on weight, hopefully he doesn't let it get out of control.
He was good at Kayfabe, I really thought he was A champion in sumo wrestling in Japan.
On the fat woman who would eat eleven bags of Doritos of a Family 12-pack, and leave just one ... I used to manage an Arby's and there was this hu-u-u-uge woman who would come in, order several roast beef & cheese, several orders of curly fries, four or five sweet potato pies, and then top it off with a "diet" soda ... talk about kidding oneself
I did not hear Hogan say that Andre weighed 650-700 at WM3. If he said that, it is more proof of Hogan being a liar. Andre may have weighed close to that towards the end.
I never heard of "carpenter" as a synonym for jobber.
Hogan wrote it in his autobiography
@@michaelhaggerston8421 Thanks. I did not read that.
@@michaelhaggerston8421 he also wrote that he was born on top of a mountain and a great unicorn flew by the moon as he lay lying there thinking of all his future "hulkamaniacs"
IIRC Hogan also said he was over 700lbs on that Andre the Giant documentary that aired on HBO a few years back
Apparently he poo'd on bret hart during a drop once as well.
I haven’t heard this but Andre shitt on Bad News Brown in the ring
Andre was not gonna live a long life thin or not .
600lb. Life is such a depressive show.
No job rob
The woke eat the woke, too. Sadly, they're miserable.
I enjoy this show so much. Glad to hear your not a part of the woke mob. Then I'd have to stop ⌚ watching 😆 .
The word is jobber don't be so damn pc
I will say sometime the so-called woke crowd, can be a bit much but when the host said a lot of these people be basically complaining when it doesn't affect them. That's a true statement on the other hand in the future whatever they are protesting against may eventually affect them.
Why did they try to pass off a Samoan as Japanese? Did anyone actually believe it?
Tons of people, parden the pun !
He wasn't actually passed off as Japanese; just as spending a lot of time there doing sumo. He was announced as being from Polynesia.
I did as a little kid...same thing with Mr. Fuji.
Yoko died of fatness what a way to go
Yokozuna was NOT Samoan, he was Japanese 😡
In WWF Royal Rumble for the SNES, they listed him as being from Polynesia.
Yokozuna character was Japanese but Rodney was in real life Samoan part of the Anoa’i family
It's still real to me, damnit!!
I think hate speech should be confronted but if you cannot take a joke do not watch comedy .
I really enjoy the stories but man Dutch is clueless on some topics and pretends like he knows things until you correct him. Kinda ruining the videos for me. I’ve also seen Yoko squash ppl a lot, yet Dutch had no idea.
Yokozuna was horrible and even the first time I saw him, before he even got to the ring I was laughing at the really obvious lumpy stuffing in his tights to make him look even fatter. Never saw a Yokozuna match that was even passable. He was okay as Great Kokina/Kokina Maximus, pre-WWE but that was before he became grotesquely obese and largely immobile.
Bro we are all gonna throw the salt right in your eyes if you don’t stop talking shit about one of the scariest heels ever! Mr Fuji gonna come out and hit you with the flag pole. The cornette is gonna whack you with the racket. And just when you start getting your site back, you’ll look up to hear that “BONZAAAIIII!!” And then you’ll know.
@@iLikeMyOwnPosts ok
nah, his 1st like 3 years in WWF were pretty good, then when the weight went like 450 to 550 to getting weighed on a livestock scale the match quality dropped.
What is this guy on about? The bumps Yokozuna took for a man his size were incredible. He was a very entertaining sight to see.
Nonsense. Yokozuna had several good matches during his first few years with WWF. It wasn't until later when he got much bigger that he could barely move. He was actually surprisingly quick during those first few years.
Dutch dropping love for Chappelle caught me off guard.
It's weird the Islanders being so big. You think they would be eating lots of fish. Japan is the most healthy Country in the world lots of Islands lots of fish. It must be genetic.
They don't depend on fresh local food anymore, they eat highly processed imported food.
Comedy that punches down, to me, as a man, isn't funny.
Pineapple milk.... really... dutch showing his racist side more and more now of days
Grow up
Clone machine- Dutch is no racist.
We The People!
Nobody cares about your recreational outrage.
Lol WAAAAACISM
