Really awesome video, thank you so much for doing this. I didn’t know you can sublimate on hard surfaces like that. I do sublimation on fabric, but this opens up a hole world of opportunity.
You can sublimate on all kinds of products. You just have to make sure they have the special coating to make them work. I do plagues and mugs as regular customer need.
This video is the best ive seen thank you for sharing. Im a newbie to all this and fillowed step by step and my project turned yellow?? Any suggestions? TY
Wat een goede video met duidelijke uitleg. Zou je mij kunnen zeggen wat voor lak dit precies is, en waar je dit normaal voor gebruikt, want ik kan dit niet vinden in Nederland.
@@amyalbernaz8687 Hi! I have a video I did with the laminate sheet after cutting the wood into a shape. If you're interested - ua-cam.com/video/ZgDTkw1zuLA/v-deo.html
If I don’t have this high priced printer you mentioned we could do this using design space. Can u please give me directions on how to use design space to put this on the wood pieces??
Hi! You could use Design Space to design an image, but you would still need a sublimation printer to sublimate. However, you can print the image with a regular printer onto a fabric transfer sheet, or also a waterside decal sheet, and then place the image onto the wood that way. With the transfer sheet you would need to press with an iron, with the waterside decal you just print, cut around, dampen with water, and slide the decal off the backing onto the wood. Hope that helps!
@@AppalachianHomeCo thank you Christy, if it's a normal interior paint, it's old base and it will stick on the heat press but this did not, it's something else, can you please check and revert?
Thank you! I made the hello fall in Inkscape, found the pumpkin clipart by searching pumpkin images online and then added the text. The gnome came from Etsy and the pumpkin truck I think came from Hungry Jpeg. I will see if I can link them for you.
Hi! I did not have any issues with the wood warping, I think because it was 3/4" thick. With thinner wood that may be an issue? I will test it out at some point, especially those thinner round wood pieces. You can sublimate on the ones from Amazon so I will let you know when I try it.
Hi Christy! Thank you so much for the video! What type of paint are you using. I am new to sublimation and I have been trying like crazy to get it right. I am using Rustoleum Chalked paint with a thin layer of Polycrylic. When I press them I am at 380 degrees for 60 seconds and it kind of looks like either the paint of the poly is melting and completely pulls up the paint. Any suggestions or reasons why you think it's going wrong? Thank you!
Hi! Hmmm...I use either Valspar, Kilz, or Glidden interior paints in flat finish...maybe try a non chalk paint. Also make.sure the poly is super, SUPER dry. Several hours works better.
@@AppalachianHomeCo I’m in the UK when you say an interior flat finish for the first coat is that what we call an undercoat or is it something different. Also is polycrylic a type of varnish? Cheers Paul
Great video, very to the point and informative! One question I have is how you set the pressure for a 3/4 inch thick surface versus flat surfaces? What process do you use to adjust pressure?
The reason why you fight to pull the paper off, is because your press is not set right. I shared a video on press fudge factors, that will eliminate this extra step.
Hi Thank you for sharing, I tried it today It didn’t work for me , the paint Peeled off when I lifted the paper, the paper didn’t stick but the paint peel off in some places and it wasn’t as bright as yours, can it be the type of paint I use? Chalk paint is the was I paint my wood with, I will try another type of paint and see, anyways thank you for your tutorials, Rosy
Hi! Sorry it didn't work I do think it was probably the paint. I use regular interior paint I haven't tried the chalk paint with this. I have been getting comments about using thermal laminate instead of polycrylic... that might work as well.

Hi Christy! I've just started trying sublimation on painted wood (white). I'm having issues with the wood turning slightly yellow. Did you notice that?
Hi Christy. I'm fairly new to sublimation. I tried sublimating on wood as per your video. The first time, I used a cricut easy press set to 385 for 50 seconds and the paint peeled off. The second time, I used high heat spray paint and my new Vevor Heat Press. Also did this one at 385 for 60 seconds and once again, the paint peeled off. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I'm new to this too and haven't tried my 1st project yet! I see a lot of vinyl sublimination on YT. Press vinyl to the wood, then subliminate design on with heat press! There are 3-4 diff ways and I'll take least messy bc I don't have time to use the method that takes soapy water to get paper off lol! Vinyl rolls, clear, ehite, etc are so unbelievably cheap on Amazon I found out over weekend so I'm prob going to try vinyl method 1st! Good luck! Hopefully uour a ro at this now since I'm just watching video and saw your comment with no reply! XOXO
Hi! Yes if you are starting with raw wood you will need to add the poly. There are some wood blanks you can purchase on Amazon that will sublimate without poly, but these ones I used were lumber from Lowe's.
The thing about anything poly coated, is the ink has to dye the surface. You can sublimate many products, but if the substrate isn't there, it won't work. Much like T-shirts. You can sublimate cotton, but it will wash out. Do it to a poly shirt, and it will last forever.

Hi! The yellowing may be from the press burning your wood a little. You can try turning the heat down just a bit, or pressing less time.
Love it❤️

Hi thank you! I only had to wait a couple of hours and it was completely dry.
So its the ''Polycrylic" that allows for sublimation? Can you use any type of paint like chalk paint, acrylic? Really love these!

You can use most any paint as long as it dries completely and you definitely have to use the polycrylic.
