    Knowing the height of the fountain is 100m it gives a great scale in the crater shots. I have never seen a volcano up close and likely never will. This one is bloody huge!

      @Dragrath1 14 днів тому

      Yeah it has had an active conduit with tiny spattering during the paused duration which is probably why you can call it a single eruption since it had basically established a tiny lava lake or perhaps lava pond is more appropriate?

    • @MikkellTheImmortal
      @MikkellTheImmortal 15 днів тому +1

      @AnthonyLoconte-u6w that's pretty tall. But how tall in theory could it reach given the things we know about the volcano? The best theoretical number I'm able to come up with is 700m. That's taking the past eruption data as a reference point and giving it a boost with a plausible volume of gasses that are needed for a fountain.

    Thanks for the update, Tim. May I make a suggestion, though? You really ought reduce the precision on the numbers for things like column heights. Instead of “178.4 meters”, say “approximately 175 meters” - - it’s very unlikely that they actually measured it to a tenth of a meter. It’s just an estimated height, so you don’t want to use high precision. Save precise numbers for the times you have precision in the data.

    How are pauses in eruptive activity identified differently than an end to an eruptive period? I hope my question makes sense. It seems like pauses could be quite long, so what sets those apart from what would be the overall end? Is this something we only define after the activity is over or are there identifiable measurements or observable behaviors that set them apart?

    Has it ever filled the entire caldera and spilled over?

    • @michaelpoland529
      @michaelpoland529 15 днів тому +4

      Prior to the formation of the current main caldera, in about the year 1500, there was no caldera -- the one that existed had been filled. So lava flows from the summit escaped the area at the top of the volcano and went south all the way to the sea. It would take a long time (decades?) before something similar could happen with the current caldera, given the depth and size.

  • @jamesainsworth5805

    In your opinion when will the Caldera completely fill up and start over toping the rim. Assuming no additional collapses.

    • @michaelpoland529

      It would take years, or decades if eruptions are intermittent. The volume of the downdropped block from 2018 is huge.
