Some great catches there Gerry. Rare to see a 121 going solo @ 29:40 too. Thanks for uploading! :)

Great video Gerry thanks for posting and to Denis for capturing. That 001 class footage is top notch, they really were a work horse and the IR livery really suited them. Paul.

The first view is of an 141, BR Mark 1 and two Park Royals on the Rosslare to Waterford, seen west of the Barrow Bridge. Hard to think of this line being closed, which was very stupid, considering two Waterford and one Limerick passenger trains per day and all that sugar beet traffic from Bridgeton / Wellington Bridge when in season. For generations living in Limerick, Cork etc. this line was THE way to Fishguard and London. Loved the steam heat, the Cravens were good, the Park Royals were better, and the CIE coaches were an experience and a half ! 132 stranded at Thomastown, had derailed with a seized traction motor, to be withdrawn after being wheelskated to Inchicore. 132 was one of only two 121s I missed for hauled (her plus 125). My wife and I saw her on a push pull set from Drogheda. We waited 3.5 hours at Howth Junction in the horizontal rain for her to work north, but there was no sign of her. We checked Dublin Connolly and she was not there either. We found her at Dublin Pearce not due back out for hours, so we left. Had several 001 A Class, all the 071s + 111s (which were my favourites), most 141s, 181s, and new 201s, plus one Hunslet 101, number 102 in Belfast. Happy days when "real railways" had locos, steam heat, single line tokens, mechanical semaphore signalling, and coaches you could lean your head out of ! Great video. Thanks for posting. Alas I never got a cabride in Ireland. But managed it in Blighty over 350 times, plus France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Canada and even drive a train in Hungary !

Thank you for your kind complement. I try my best. As well as being a life member of ITG, professionally I was the National Operations Standards Manager, now retired in charge of railway operations England, Wales and Scotland. I also did EU directives into UK law for railway operations. Any questions, always happy to help.

What happenes to the loco that was left in the siding was there a fault on it. Also great vid Gerry love the old classic engines.

Not sure what happened but it looks like fire damage may be a traction motor fault.

What's that machine at 17:10? One of those track level surveying devices?

    • @gerryconmy

No exactly sure could be ballast regulator or other PWD machine.

It closed many years but the track is still in situ. Would love to see it reopen.
