While Dr Rajapathirana’s ‘anecdotal’ explanations are no doubt useful, what would be much more valuable is a data-driven and statistics-based technical discussion on how to create a high growth economic path forward for Sri Lanka. As a non-economist, I’m not satisfied this discussion has fully explored the lessons Sri Lanka needs to learn from its international peers on nation building.

The poor countries are like USA UK Canada etc but they control Sri Lanka,Ethiopia,Malaysia etc. A gold or emerald minor is poor, those who guard the mine are poor but those who control the guards or the miner are rich. Rajapathirana is making it very complicated so that the listener is bamboozled!!

Many important issues were discussed with the great minds at Advocata, and valuable ideas were shared. I hope Advocata takes steps to present these ideas to decision-makers responsible for economic policies. Government officials often lack opportunities to upskill and may struggle to think outside the box.

Thank you for the open discussion. About poverty in Lanka, needs to upgrade education system with more technical with other skills. SL universities producing useless degrees not compatible with business world. Lanka needs plumbers, construction workers, machinists, computer coders etc. SL needs to teach English from grade one.
You can’t match wealth just looking at cars in the street. Lot of SL living above the means, like spending on credit.
Lanka should take advantage on India, we are sitting next huge economic power, which will benefit SL growth.
Government needs to have economic policies that benefit citizens of their own. Right here in U.S has opportunities for capital market, innovation and entrepreneurs. No one from SL come and address U.S Capital Market expect for RW or his last visit to India.
I was Argentina, last month as seen economic progress with President Javier Millie. I pray for SL next generation has great economic opportunities.

There are rich and poor people in Sri Lanka . Who are the rich ? Peolpe
Who serve interests of the state get rich through privileges . Like professors , politicians , executives etc . The state is exploiting poor people by imposing heavy taxes on basic foods , clothing , and material needed to build housing . The state borrow money from IMF , WB
etc .and distribute it among the rich people and then state make poor people pay those borrowed money with interests . So poor people getting poorer and rich getting richer . Rich people like this profeser always try to maintain this system . Now poor people are struggling to servive without any hope of relief . This is basically a criminal system a very cruel one .

1st of all, Sri lanka must stop discriminating Tamil people, then only it will improve economically. If not, SL will never ever improve

I think Advocata is becoming redundant, their need to push for free market, deregulated policies ignores the elephant in the room which is the oligarchy.
When one says that the we have been plagued by bad policies, what we are actually saying is that policies benefit the oligarchy at the expense of the citizenry,
That is why we are poor.
And this can be seen in the wealth distribution of these countries.
    Take their own examples.
Thailand's economic boom has resulted in their richest 1% in Thailand controls almost 67% of the country's wealth!
In India the top 10% of the Indian population holds 77% of the total national wealth.
And these are supposed to be examples of economic systems that we need to follow???

    No Sinhala Racism
No Economic Crisis in the islands.
But the Sinhala racists( R BLINDED due to their racism against Tamils & Muslims)run Srilanka lost Sovereignty cos of their massive loans to carry out Genocide of Tamils and to occupy Tamil Eelam with 87% Military since 2009 till today.

Very important question. Sri Lanka is an extremely wealthy country. Similar rich countries are Democratic Republic of Congo,Haiti etc
If i give an example of wealth. Gold miners or Emerald miners are poor. The guards that guard the gold miners orEmerald mines are poor but those that are wealthy are those that control the miners and the guards!! Elon musk is wealthy not the emerald mineral! Rajpathirana is making it much more complicated than what it is. Ethiopia is richer than UK USA etc!

Having children can lead to more poverty. Especially in countries like srilanka population must be controlled like the one child policy.
