Hi, nope the leeboard and sail was homemade, it's easy to make them if you see in my other videos on this playlist. Itiwit kayaks only comes with their inflatable seats and skeg fins. The paddles and pumps come separate. This was an older version on the kayak sailing project, have a look at the latest video on the playlist, the one with a big blue sail. I did talk to Itiwit to come out with a sail for their kayaks, but they were not interested as they already have the Tribord inflatable dinghy in the market.
You need to put a little slack in the bottom of your sail(draft) for more power. The way you have your sail right now its too tight and doesn't drive the kayak enough forward.
Thank you for the advice sir. This was my version 2 sail model, I've made it to version 6 now and yes I've added some draft to the sail. But, do you think I should sleeve the boom like this black sail? Or should I do the Laser-Pico style with a tack-cord to stretch the sail onto the boom? which gives a better performance? Thank you in advance!
Hey there, the white platform was a parasol base from IKEA. It sits snug in place for the Itiwit kayak, at the same time it helps to 'widen' the kayak's width. For more detailed explanation, visit our website www.snacksinthebackpack.com and look under 'Just For Fun' 💪🏼
@@sitb- thanks! I was looking through all your great blogs but somehow missed the first how-to. Finally found it at www.snacksinthebackpack.com/build-a-sailing-kit-under-20-pounds
Hi Steve, I have all the information on this page : www.snacksinthebackpack.com/inflatable-kayak-sailing-the-build/ let me know if you need any additional information from me 💪😁
looks great, just put orange sponge on that end :) ...how long is kayak? Do you put drinking water in that Ikea stand? could be useful for showering too:)
Thanks! wow that's another great hack you came up with. I've never thought about using the parasol base to store fresh water for showering or drinking! I live by the beach about 1 minute away from the water, so showering was out of my list. But hey, you could do that, absolutely! The kayak is 3.4m length x 1.0m width inflated. Folds off into a backpack weighing 15kgs with paddles and pump.
Thank you for this inspiring video! Is your mast telescopic? How did you prevent it from folding down when shrouds are attached? How long it is when you disasssemble it?
Hey thanks man! This mast was a sawn off beach fishing rod, not telescopic, but its lightweight carbon. I love the idea of having it telescopic, I'll give it a thought on that. The mast was about 5ft + 1.5ft in this particular video. You could also use a telescopic shower curtain railing if you wish to have it shorter when dismantled and lock it in place with an 'R clip' to stop it from sliding down.
@@sitb- Thx, I already bought telescopic rod, and it seems to be OK, when I tried at home. It's friction-"locked", but it should be enough, but I didn't try it on water yet. Your idea with umbrella stand is also cool. My rod is 7 m /120 cm. I bought the longest I could, so it's thick and the top is stiff, when last 3 pieces are inside each other. I have windsurfing sail, which is 4 m high. Regards Adam
Id love to see more on the construction of the leeward boards and the rudder.
leeboards & rudder in here ua-cam.com/video/UJjt9a6nm-o/v-deo.html
new rudder mount is under construction -coming soon! :)
Turn up volume
I was looking forward to the 3rd episode! Still improving, great job!
hey thanks! I'm working on a bigger sail as we speak, it's twice the size of this trial one, hope it won't tip the kayak over this weekend lol 😂
Wow, it's awesome. I really want to make one like yours.
@@robertyip15j don't forget to share it here when you do! 😁💪
Great Video! Does the sail and leeboards come right along with the Itiwit? Are they optional equipment from Decathlon?

We need more wind ! 😊
😂😂 definitely could use more wind!
What's the white platform which attaches the mast to the floor? Can you give more details on that? How does it stay in place? Thanks!
