Actually, their is a reason why this UA-camr did what he did. Alcahol is extremely flammable, therefor it burns out quickly. If you watch carefully, you'll see that big flame dies out about 5 seconds later. This home made stove prevents all the alcohol from being burned at once by using the fumes instead. It's basically a giant lighter.
I used a penny stove on my Appalachian trail hike. super lightweight, small and reliable. Best part is they’re cheap to make, so if it gets messed up, it cost 50 cents and 5 minutes to make a replacement.
Awesome! That looks like the "Trangia" an expensive but well worth the price back packing stove, made in Sweden, I bought 20years ago, which I no longer have. It ran on denatured alcohol. Thank you for posting!

Love it! ♥️ However, my ancestors have always cooked without gas and electricity lol... Wood and rocks were their methods. Still to this day; most people in Samoa are using this method.
Great and fairly simple trick. I have some German Army hexamine* stoves and a few other 'just in case' methods. The flint and steel striker should be in everyone's home; easy to use, with a little practice and these things can save lives. (*Never use hexamine indoors; the fumes are LETHAL)
How many times in your life have you found yourself in an emergency where you have in hand 1) alcohol 2) 2 empty soda cans 3) a lighter 4) a mullet 5) a pin and 6) a coin Like who the fuck is the poor person that carries all of that plus an electronic device with access to the internet and can't find something else to put on fire more efficiently, or easily?! Real life isn't a McGayver movie..! Especially real, poor life! Edit: I forgot to count the cutter. If you even have just that and a lighter you can go outside and pick up things that will be much more useful for making a fire! The fucking soda-can heater is for the poor man's fondue - at best!
Genius wow thanks for the sharing we have some perilous times coming this could help a lot of people pay attention folks! God bless you honey this is priceless information! 👍😘💙
Just a tip to add to this video. The center hole under the penny needs to be a bit bigger that the other 4. Also you don’t want to use any penny that’s newer that 1982. Because of the zinc.
This actually helped me cook some corned beef when there was a power outtage in my home. It worked for about 20 minutes and managed to heat up the corned beef and some hot water for some coffee for meee. Thanks for this video :))) it makes the flame last longer if you put a few cotton rounds
I noticed you had to pre heat the bottom. and you used 90 % ethanol. We used HEET, no preheating needed. Ethanol is more hygroscopic than other, so the water content gets more specially on an open container. Methanol is also a good fuel but need safety precautions. Later makers insert a liner at the bottom others fill the cavity with Fiberglass wool. Both makes the burning smoother.and seem to last longer.
0:08 replace the pencil with a razor blade & you'll save a lot of time cutting, just hold the razor with your thumb & spin the can a few times to score the aluminum, then press into the score mark with your thumb and it should break quite easily.
Test it before you need it. The one I made exploded in my face. I had a face shield on, so I was not injured. However, for a few seconds I was on fire.
I think I made the holes for the burner to small. Also it happened when I moved it. It may have been that the fuel inside sloshed up onto the hot burner. My advice would be to test it in a safe manner.
How about putting bigger candles in a stainless steel sink and using a glass cutting board over the candles and setting cooking pots or pans on it? Glass will get hot, even a tin, aluminum etc cooking pan over the candles in a full sink would heat multiple food items. Just saying...
Interesting. A DIY Sterno can...now you need at least two or more a chafer and you'll be cooking anything in no time. And so YES, Ms comment below, you can cook fried chicken with this idea AND NO Mr comment below there is no gas fuel in this idea since he is using Ethanol, which is essentially a chemical compound made from simply... 🌽! If you just so happened to be reading the bottle he used as his fuel it said "Alcool Etilico", which is Brazilian/Portuguese for Ethanol. Ethanol in it's pure form is a clear flammable liquid, unlike gas which contains oil compounds. So, overall this idea is clever and environmentally efficient AND YES, it can cook/heat anything in no time, however, patience is a virtue! Good video! Thanks for posting! 😀👍
