definitely nice format, i could imagine something like this every 4-5th vid even. Do prior research, work smart, not hard (or preferably both but mainly smart).
You’re personality definitely shines in this style of video. You and your passion for your trade is what made it interesting. Basically it was fun to watch.
I like this format. I’m getting ready to paint our basement and this was very helpful. I like other people testing things so I don’t have to waste money or time. So, thanks!
I have bought 2 or 3 versions of that $25 Wagner syringe style roller over the years. I keep buying them because they are so fast and make almost no mess. Also, I keep buying them because getting them cleaned and reset (particularly after storing it for a few months) can be hard. Eventually they just start having leaking issues. But...I would never paint a ceiling again without one. It makes ceiling monumentally easier.
Tragically watching from Canada, I went to check the prices on amazon and the two Wagner products were $80 and $480 - *FOUR HUNDRED AND EIGHTY!!!* respectively. Sucks because I was really looking forward to trying out the smart flow one once my house I just bought closes in August!!! Honestly, I still might buy it because I'm the type of person who will change the paint colours on my walls a lot...might still be worth the investment, hahah. *moves to save for later section on amazon...* LOL.
Hello! Thank you for your interest in Wagner tools. Here is a link to the SMART Roller at Lowe's CA: www.lowes.ca/product/inner-fed-paint-rollers/wagner-smart-roller-670120 Hope that helps! Let us know if you have any questions
Man, i've been alway from this chanel for i wile and regret it a lot! i'm binge watching this Cabin Renovation series and i'm really loving it! can't wait for more! love your content since i found it back in 2014 or 15.
I have not had the pleasure of painting a wall yet, except a small (5x6) bathroom with very little actual wall to paint. But I am thinking about your review. Thank you for your testing ☺️.
definitely nice format, i could imagine something like this every 4-5th vid even. do prior research, work smart, not hard (or preferably both but mainly smart)
I used the Wagner Smart Roller for several projects and found that even with back-rolling, I had lots of problems with the roller knap messing with the finish. It's a cool idea, but I abandoned mine a long time ago and returned to the paint tray. Haven't looked back.
I was using something similar to the Wagner over 20 years ago. You filled a hollow tube with your paint and pushed gently whenever you wanted to add paint to the roller. I painted a lot of walls with that and still have one in my garage. Latex paint only. I think it was branded the EASY ROLLER but I don't have the original packaging anymore and any branding on the unit has long ago been worn off. It also came with a special paint can lid and suction wand to pull the paint into the hollow tube handle section. The final Wagner is something I'd love to use the next time I paint. Although I'd have liked to have seen you clean that one as I fear you'd lose a lot of paint in the tubing when cleanup time came. Does it have a suction setting to empty the paint in the tubing back into the supply container ?
I used what I think was the original back in the 1980s or 90s called the PaintStick. I always found cleanup a pain in the neck, though it had an attachment that attached to your faucet that would force water thru the roller, but I was not all that impressed. These days a simple roller and tray is easiest and cleans up quickest
In all tools (especially with the first and last) my first question is "how easy is it to clean or change colors?" In the case of all options. I'd honestly rather just throw my paint tray liner and roller away when they only cost $10 from home Depot to begin with.
both took about 5 minutes to clean, not a big deal! just run water through the pump to save to old paint in the hose. or fill the $25 with water to make sure the perforated roller holes aren't clogged
Enjoyed the video. Thanks. Might consider the Wagner deluxe, but have concerns. 1. The 5 gallon bucket. Can you put just one gallon into a spare bucket and go? 5 gallons of paint is a heck of a lot unless you're painting a lot of rooms the same or painting a gymnasium. 2. Clean up. 3. Paint usage. Paint is not cheap. 4. The paint in the hose. Does the hose always need to be full? That's a lot of extra paint, even if you can drain it back into the bucket when finished.
I have about 4 of the Wagner roller your number two tool and I actually found them in the 99 cent store for 4 dollars! I love them just don't let someone stupid use it because they will not know what they are doing and bust it all to hell.
You're videos are always great and inspiring. Can you make a DIY beginners kit that can kind of do the majority of home projects. Seeing the reviews you did is a solid video too. Keep at it ^_^
Great video! I live in Palm Springs so since following the JT renovation watching your channel grow and explore is really cool. Liked seeing new tools. I have a whole interior to paint next month and i may just go with that 100 dollar wagner set up Looks worth it! Thanks!
I like what u did. I have a question, I'm a smoker and want to paint my walls n ceiling, Do u think I have to wash them down before I prime them or not?
I actually enjoyed this video style. The only thing I will say is that you were generous with the amount of stars you gave the first product. The other ones were spot on though. The house is coming along great!
Nice video, I like the format. With the 2 Wagner ones I’d be concerned at how much paint was lost when cleaning. Can you dump the paint out before cleaning or is all the paint in the tube (the last one) lost to water for cleaning? How was it being tethered to your paint tin?
Great video Mike. Just my 2 cents on the 2nd. Wagner roller (if there's someone you can reach out too) would be to add a spring or a small extension on the handle that would help flare the tube away from the wall when painting. Like a 45 angle bracket or something. I've heard that it becomes a bit of an issue, the tube rubbing against the painted wall. Other than that, that roller set up would give even a sprayer a run for it's money. Hoping all is well Bud, Dirty Jersey out!!!
That was a fun video. Thank you for the honesty with the products. I think many people will find that useful. I like the paint roller toss and catch too. Haha that was a nice touch. Keep up the great work friend!
In Canada Ive never seen 1/4 roller in paint store.By default that is always 3/8 (10mm) for drywall walls. But as suggest by a painter I talked to, Im using 1/2 (13mm) most of the time, it is twice as fast to paint a wall and finish is still very smooth if you dont paint too heavy. So no needs for a fancy tool that can break. But still cool to see thoses gadgets! I would buy a airless sprayer for doors and furnitures, seems great to do a smooth job
1/4" is standard for a skim coat or "level 5 finish". the Lower the nap it, the less "roller texture" gets transferred to the wall. No point in doing a skim coat wall and then have a paint roller give in an orange peel look! here, 3/8" is standard for light texture and 3/4" is used on heavy texture and stucco
Great video. I just wish you showed how to clean the side kick. Do you just run water through the machine while running? Just wondering for long term use.
Yes pretty much. It's kind of a pain. I was painting my house one color so it was really time efficient, but if I had to switch between colors, I'm sure it'd be a cross contamination nightmare.
"Weak AF pump" lol, I love honest reviews! Edit ~ You gave the Wagner 5 stars and then said 4 stars when you rated the last one. Which did you land on?
Very informative video MB. I liked that last paint tool that you used but how do you get all of the paint left in the tube/handle out when you are done painting? That has got to be a real PITA! 🤔🤔
Super easy, I just put the feed hose into a bucket of water and let it pump all the paint back into the 5 gallon bucket.. just make sure to shut it off before it starts filling the paint bucket with H2O 😜
The only thing I wish is that the paint a color or that the walls where zoomed in a bit. It would be better for us to see the quality of the tool if it was.
Imo, i don't think professional painters will use any of these 'automatic' paint rollers because they actually will make them work slower. If you're talking about automatic painting tools I'll only go with airless paint sprayers. Other then that a manual paint roller and a brush will always be my choice for painting walls...or anything for that matter...
I, on the other hand, build furnishing objects in metal and show all the processes behind an object. I hope in the future they can be appreciated more because I put a lot of effort into making them😁😁😁
A decent review of cheap and lower quality products... honestly a paint tray and a roller is better than any of these products. Maybe in the future examine tools from a company that makes better products like Graco or Tritan.
Pro painter here... After spending all that money on tape, plastic, masking paper and the tools it takes to paint effectively (not the crap he's using in this video, as I wouldn't touch anything from that list) you could have hired a pro painter and wrote one check. Plus, you get a warranty on the work. Yeah, you can DIY, but when you factor in the tools and materials plus your time, you're going to be right around what a legitimate pro would be charging you without the hassle of having to do it yourself. As I always say... "Let dentists be dentists, plumbers be plumbers and painters be painters."
Let me know what you think of this style video for different tools / gadgets!! This was fun to film, hopefully its fun to watch :)
definitely nice format, i could imagine something like this every 4-5th vid even. Do prior research, work smart, not hard (or preferably both but mainly smart).
It’s a really fun format and it did a great job like you said making the more boring task of painting interesting and engaging.
It is fun! Reminds me of Vasseur Beauty's budget vs bougie range. Love it
I Like it
It's really fun to see different tools, so do make more videos like this.

Thanks Layana! 😁
Love the sidekick it’s a great system
I genuinely enjoyed this style of video. I’d be interested in seeing more of these. Good work.
Sweet!! It was fun to make too, If other opportunities like this pop up, I'll go for it :)
I like this format. I’m getting ready to paint our basement and this was very helpful. I like other people testing things so I don’t have to waste money or time. So, thanks!
Like this style of video, it helps us average consumer that can’t buy all three or more items to use for home use/diy.
I have bought 2 or 3 versions of that $25 Wagner syringe style roller over the years. I keep buying them because they are so fast and make almost no mess. "I know I used two Wagner products, I don't care." The most honest comment ever! I just keep loving Modern Builds.

Personally liked it as an occasional episode every now and then. Quite entertaining to see the performance/results.
For me, the Wagner Smart Roller won. Simple mechanism and no electronics needed.
This style of video is great!! Keep em coming
LOVE this style content!
Since my name is Wagner it cracked me up when you said it was a name we could trust, looks like a handy tool. very helpful review
More videos like this! Testing out products!
Loved this type of video!
Great video!!! Would like to see color , to see contrast, great info!! 👍🏾👍🏾
I feel like this is solving a problem that doesn't exist. Dipping a roller in paint is the easiest part of painting
... and the cleaning of these... omg.
This video is going to save me so much time!

I think Wagner Makes something similar now! Basically the smart roller without the trigger!

C'mon. Do a test with a dark paint colour. White on white background always looks good.
My idea for the house is to move your fridge to the corner near the big window (right),that makes big space for your kitchen
I've been using the Wagner for years. I'm not tall but I've managed to paint the 8 foot ceiling standing on the floor no ladder.
perhaps a different colour paint other than the wall colour so we can see what's goin' on!
Nice reviews 👍🏽

Do you think if you covered the paint bucket with plastic wrap you would avoid the “skin” on it?
3rd one is the best

Were you getting paint on your internet modem?
The only thing I wish is that the paint a color or that the walls where zoomed in a bit. It would be better for us to see the quality of the tool if it was.
Nice video but would probably be better if you were painting colors, it was a little hard to see the tools work because of white on white
My paint stick exploded, and since under pressure it was spraying everywhere! 🤣
review i love all the videos would like to see you team up with Modustrial Maker on youtube
That title lol!!!!
Looks so much more harder then the Traditional way
Why use white paint on white wall for demosnstration?
Imagine if you have 14 foot walls. That last one would bring me intense joy! You have to reload constantly. Also 100$ isn’t that much really.
Exactly what I was thinking!! Smartroller for 1 room Sidekick for a whole house!!
Wagner don't get mad? Why a brand would get mad if they are receiving positive and true feedback?
Imo, i don't think professional painters will use any of these 'automatic' paint rollers because they actually will make them work slower. It would help a lot if you used a different color to show how it coats the wall. White on white doesn't seem to show that.
