I'm really looking forward to the 3rd season of Mr. Robot. Have you seen it? Would love to see your Reviews of it! If you have not seen it give it a try! It is an amazing show! As far as I know you from this channel I'm sure you will like it. It is pretty different from anything else I have seen. And it is pretty damn great!
I absolutely loved the first season but for reasons I don't fully understand I took a pass on Season 2. I need to take a stab at it and see if I get hooked again.
I did not like the 2nd season as much as the 1st but still much better than most TV shows I have seen. And I think the story will really get really going in the coming season.
As a fellow NYer (although I was only a 4 year old in '71, and I grew up in the burbs) there's no way I'll miss this, although I wasn't quite as enamored with The Wire as most seem to have been. I do think it's an expertly made show, just not so much my particular interest. But a period piece set in early 70s NY is essential viewing.
It definitely has my attention for now. My hope is that as the porn biz takes shape in subsequent episodes, that the show will let its hair down a bit and revel in the period.
It's tough to recreate 1970s New York: You have to dismantle Scorsese, you have to dismantle Schrader, you have to fight a lot of preconceived notions. I'm not sure the dialogue as written was a good fit for the actors they hired, but I like Franco in all his campy goodness.
Have always thought that The French Connection and The Taking of Pelham One Two Three were the movies that best caught the sense of 70's NYC, which was a contemporary view at the time.
Yeah, I'm not ready yet in any way to rank this show alongside David Simon's The Wire, but I'm crossing my fingers that they deliver something special. I need a kick ass Fall show to look forward to.
How does this show compare to Boogie Nights? Both are about the porn industry, but the early 70's were a much rougher time than the latter part of the decade.
You can't compare the two because both stories take place on different coasts of the country. In any era, the East Coast is a drastically different culture/society than West Coast USA.
If you mean entirely new shows and not just new seasons (BoJack? Black Mirror? there wil be tons of them) or ones you will watch anyway (Punisher) than there will be on start of October TV show about italian mafia in Rome Suburra (there is also a movie) on Netflix, which was developer by same company as Gomorra and also on Netflix dark "strangerthingslike" fantasy "Dark" from Germany.
how CC was able to switch between being sweet and cajoling to total ruthless psycho in an instant was terrifying !
Agreed. Damn good performance.
CC was ever sweet? I must have skipped that episode

I breathe air and have a heart, so it means I LOVE those flicks.

Hello again, fancy meeting you here in the arse end of New York. I'm researching early 70s fashion, especially mens' dodgy hairdos, honest officer.
Sadly I'll never be able to replicate those styles. My days of having hair are in the distant past.
A mixed blessing under the circumstances. ;O)
I'm feeling rather chuffed, because I guessed right that the razor pimp was played by an Englishman.
The Deuce was fucking great. Just finished the first season. Superb.
Season 2 is on its way!

It can't be the same as Boogie Nights, it has a different purpose in mind.
Yeah, this show is definitely operating in a very different space than Boogie Nights. This is a much grittier kind of story.
Boogie Nights is a genuine party compared to this. The Deuce is a much rougher ride.
You can't compare the two because both stories take place on different coasts of the country. In any era, the East Coast is a drastically different culture/society than West Coast USA.
Been wanting to watch this!!
I'm in. The show is a little dark and might not be everyone but I'm always open to anything David Simon is working on.

I saw Gomorra in the theater. I'll definitely have a look at the show. Dark sounds very cool as well. Thanks of the suggestions!
Just watched the trailer to Dark. Looks right up my alley. Any word on when the show will be released?
This was great
I'm definitely on board for the next few episodes.
I love the show it's very entertaining!
I'm a few episodes behind unfortunately. I need to get caught up.
The first season was okay. The second season was better towards the end. I am watching the third.
