When I was a young kid we used to go and visit my grandparents in Hamilton. They lived on Avondale Street near some railroad tracks. Every morning we would see a passenger train go by. Dark red diesel engine and matching dark red cars. On the engine and cars it said, Lehigh Valley. Also remember freight trains going down those tracks pulled by steam locomotives. I'm 76 now and still remember that.
Great stuff...in the early 50's our yard in what was then Bartonville backed on to the TH&B line. My dad's cousin Reg Button would come out for a visit & to take pictures of the passing trains.
Hi from Michigan. We talked at the train show in Novi, Michigan about two weeks ago. I purchased the DVD called: "Those Memorable Passenger Trains" "The 50's through the 90's" well done with the 4 disks and 7 Volumes. Cool 😎 • Cheers from The Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
Thanks for watching, all of the audio on this program was dubbed in manually from our sound FX library. For the most part you will hear accurate sounds from 1980s video recordings from Rob McCormack (Canrail) that were dubbed in!
Beach Rd. & Ottawa St. was a great place to see trains in 1970 , I may have single handily necessitated the need for Enclosed Auto Carrier , ya see the Vietnam War was raging on and we needed something to bomb , honestly I'm $ure I was NOT the only kid launching $idewinder'$ at FORD & GM'$ latest offering'$.....they should have built us kids BMX & SK8BOARD PARK'$ , we may not have hung around RR TRACK'$ in Hamiltoon Ont. ?
The TH&B was often referred to as "To Hell and Back". ;-)
Also known as the "Tramps, Hobos, & Bums".
@@allvaticinator I grew up in Oakville, Ontario, near the CN main line and would often see TH&B trains. I don't recall hearing that though.
@@James_Knott I was born and raised in Hamilton, and a TH&B model railroader.
1:08 Is that a Nathan M3?

Love the steam/diesel transition.
Especially the F units.

Those were the days, my friend...nice job👍
Thanks very much and we are glad you enjoyed the clip!
It's so trippy seeing the places I'd hang out at as a kid way before I was born
Nice catches.
I bet a lot of those rail lines shown here are gone.
I love these trains but damn do they give off a lot of smoke
The more smoke the better! That's the way I remember them when I was a kid. (50's)

Great shots;on SW1200RS 8145-is that a crankcase heater at 1:36?
Do you have any video from Hamilton Mountain? Rymal Station and or Caledonia Station?
Sorry but we do not have those locations, Rob McCormack in Canada would be the man to do it but he is retired now!
Are the sounds original?

Bi-Levels...?
Yes. Go Transit was testing them in the early years which led to the Bombardier bi-levels we see in use today.
U dont see much yard switchers any more.
That is 100% true and the van (cabooses) Pac-Man
