- Welcome to Varusteleka's Gear Talk! In this series, we will invite gear enthusiasts to present their setup and tell us about the thought process behind their gear.
In the first episode, we have reservist and military trainer finnnco talking about backpacks and rucksacks. Stay tuned for more!
Big respect for the person who did the subtitles.
He says: "Thanks!"
@@varusteleka Or "kiitos" in Finnish!
Come on weirdos - what the hell? Shut up and like this post.
Lots of GREAT Varusteleka adverts on UA-cam lately! 👍👍🥰👍👍
They've got cool unusual gear at decent prices! I"ve been shopping with them decade or so, have gotten fantastic gear, both surplus, brand, as well as their OWN labels! They just recently come out with an awesome little knife made from leftovers of other knives!
Class, just what I needed
Excellent video!!!! Very informative and loved that you did it in your own language with sub titles. Would love either a video or an IG post on that first alice pack and the mods done to it!! Seems like an interesting pack.
Was anyone else just staring at the classic RK62 on the wall while these cool dudes talked??? ha ha...
No nyt on hyvää settiä!
Seven seconds in and I'm already looking at a guy's package. I love the Finnish.
Hyvä video. Itselläni on jenkkien US molle 2 rinkka. Hommasin sen takia kun ei maksanut hirveästi ja talvimakuupussi sekä muut varusteet mahtuu repun sisälle. Siinä on myös ulkoinen tukiranka.
👍😎The best!!!
Nice.
Enjoyed the video very much! That is a really smart looking ALICE pack, would be great to see more of the modifications you have made. Perhaps similar information is already available through googling. I will look.
👍👍👍
The Alice frame is too short if you are anything over 180 cm (6” in imperials).
Have been thinking of getting an external frame and shortening it so that the topmost horizontal bar would be at the same height as where the shoulder straps are attached. Maybe the Särmä RP80 frame?
The US Army went to plastic frames, which are great. I've had ALICE break in soldiers in the field & in training, the metal stabbing them in the back for some nasty cuts that could have been avoided had they been given proper NEWER gear.
The 1606AC frame from DEI is fantastic to use with the ALICE rucks. They have a great pad set as well.
@finnberglander7816 Maybe, if it's not the original issue metal with weak/wornout welds that snap & hurt my soldiers.
No, it’s a polymer frame. They make the MOLLE ruck frames for the Army and the FILBE frames for the Marines.
@@finnberglander7816 Uh...plastic IS polymer. If you don't know or understand that basic thing....I have to question everything else you say.

You replied: "@finnberglander7816 Maybe, if it's not the original issue metal with weak/wornout welds that snap & hurt my soldiers."
Then I said "No, it’s a polymer frame. They make the MOLLE ruck frames for the Army and the FILBE frames for the Marines."
I'm not sure what you are not clear about here. I was letting you know that these plastic/polymer, not metal, frames exist.
Very good video! There are actually two sizes of the original ALICE pattern pack. The smaller one (labeled 'medium'--there was no 'small', as I remember) and 'large', as you showed. When I was issued a medium pack in the late 1970s, I noticed how the low shape allowed me to look all around when walking, compared to 'bergen' style high packs which restricted vision to the rear. With a loaded ALICE, the weight was below the shoulders, though, so the pulling on my shoulders became miserably uncomfortable after a while.
I wish someone would produce the Hellcat pack for a reasonable price, with options for the large or medium ALICE pack.
Hellcat is easy to do, just buy molle ii frame and straps, massive upgrade
We once weight the gears of company commander of finnish army and without weapon and ammunition it was 38 kg about 85 pounds. If man need to do something it is not posible to carry all. During WW II woods were full of abandoned gears. Finns don't carry anything without reason.
I've had both Alice packs, the medium is great but the large is terrible
Weird how certain backpack styles work at some sizes and completely useless in another.
@@murphy7801 it's like a skip! Now my medium Alice, ive had it for nearly 30 years, love it, I've done all the upgrades to
I've carried both the medium and large extensively - there really isn't that much difference. It is certainly easier to overload the large, especially if you need to carry a lot of mission specific gear, as it has the volume to just keep loading one more thing. I do prefer the medium myself, but only if it is on a frame. Ruck a medium without the frame (which is how is was most frequently issued when I was in) and it becomes one of the worst sweat hog packs out there.
@@joshwagner4368 big difference between the medium when it's not on a frame
@@RedBranchBushcraft Just beware the frame. Every single one that I had in the Army inevitably broke, ending up being kludged back together with duct tape, wire, and paracord. I know there are a lot of 'improved' frames on the market now, but in my experience the originals were abysmal and I would look at the cheap reproductions with great suspicion.
Oikein hyvä video, lisää vaan.
