  • Today I'm back with a new Sketchup speed build. I've finally found out what the terrain edit tool works like, so I thought it would be fun to make a mountain house.

I am a graduate student in the architecture field. I would highly recommend you reach out to local architecture firms and ask if you could shadow for a day or get a tour. Bring a couple of your models with (photos). And ask if they could use someone to model and render their project part time.
Could lead to even an internship at an early age.
At the very least take a tour of a college architecture program nearby you and see if it interests you!

@@cxmdencod180 you're still quite young. Starting off learning all the different modelling and drawing programs is really the only place to start at that age. Once you're older and have started a degree in Architecture, then it would be better to look for work experience or internships. Architecture firms are quite strict on what they require and in my experience, don't accept people who lack experience, skills or required education that are needed to be worth their time. Learning Sketchup, Revit, AutoCAD, 3DS Max, ArchiCAD are all good programs you can start off learning but you will still need the professional education as well because architecture isn't just about drawing buildings. There are much deeper thought processes involved in designing buildings rather than just making them look good.

@@cxmdencod180 Personnaly as a kid i draw houses on Sketchup just for fun. Then first year at Uni, i actually learned how to really draw (with layers and that kind of stuff). They really teach you this slowly and normally the first year you are more experiencing with hand sketches and paintings etc. So yep just try to draw what you like and don t bother yourself with getting too complicated and deep in a programm, you will learn this properly in the studies. (PS: Learn also draw sketches by hand, thats even the most important in the first year).

As someone who is in the construction field, I must say that your ability of being able to create a house is very good, however you have to remember that homes are not built or designed from the outside in, but rather from the inside out. A good place to start in the future would be to lay out a floor plan, know where your rooms will be: bedrooms, baths, kitchen, dining, mechanical and so on, then that will give you your idea of what the outside will look like base on the layout of those rooms.

"Work smarter not harder". Good builds man. I'm studying architecture and you have a good eye for this. And I'm glad you started on a terrain. Since a project and design is usually driven by its context. Also you must get freehand drawings going. I do a basic model and then print it and use it as a back base where I draw my models with pens and colour. Computer renders don't give the unique effects that hand drawings give. Start sketching these sketchup designs in conceptual sketches and it will look amazing^^

to be honest, I don't really believe anything called " speed build " It takes so much time, skills, and experience to have a good house design. Architect has a lot responsibility for their designs, thus, they need to make sure that every things on the design are passed by code and the owners' eyes. That means you want your windows, doors, walls, roof or stairs come with the right dimension and are put in the right place. It takes time. This is a cool video to get you interested in house designing tho.

What he meant by speed build is a time lapse of a build that he has been planning for a while to build, because in edited normal speed of this video would be many many hours long

you have the fundamental design concepts engraved into you which means u can, and should start using something more advanced like revit and dynamo. it will be a whole new world of possibilities in terms of designing and building. parametric stuff is also cool to look into. best of luck and keep it up, amazing work

that is a very good way to design !! and your age allows you to design this way,.. I am studying architecture and once you realise that most of the things we design are unrealistic to build. you will automatically start building houses rectangular, unless the client is a billionaire and budget is no issue at all.

It’s so amazing what you do! Really! I mean you 15 and you speak way better English than anyone I know in your age. It’s really awesome how you do a huge and detailed house out of nothing. I know that you study architecture today and I don’t know but maybe in 10 years you’ll be one of the most famous architects. What ever you are really doing something amazing 😉

your drawing style is painfully to watch. drawing fast is easy, drawing correctly is not. this model would be a nightmare to adjust and draft due to no groups, no component's and the random heights and thickness.

Very impressive, young man. If you keep working at it and exercising your creativity, you can go far. One minor tip: you should look into the array feature, which can save you time when making repetitive features such as stair steps or rafters. You simply copy a component or group, and after placing the copy, simply hit "x5" or "/5" to make 5 copies spaced the same, or spaced within the original spacing, respectively. Keep up the fine work!

great stuff. to give you an idea of what your plan should cost approx. I have just had house plans done, The plans were R15 000 or $1 014. To have the digital model built like this was an additional R7500 or $507. That was the cheapest quote i got for plans and model.
