Motorbiking the Khardung-La mountain pass in the Indian Himalayas was definitely the craziest and the most difficult motorbike trip of my entire life as we got into a terrible snow-storm at the top of the pass and riding every meter became an incredibly difficult thing to do.
However, experiences like this are one of the main reasons I love traveling so much and honestly I couldn't be happier about how this trip turned out. Life's short, there's no time to waste doing the easy thing, hey! Haha :)

In 1986 when I was young, I traveled Sringar-Leh by road which took two days with a night halt at Kargil. The journey was awesome - out of the world experience. I slept two days in Leh with headache before even going around Leh. But I've never been above 13500 ft which was Fotu La (Pass). I've also gone up to Rohtang Pass above Manali twice in my life. It's about 13000 ft. The way to the pass was covered with huge ice walls and also fresh snow. It was snowing while on way to Rohtang Pass. That was the first time I saw what it means to be really snowing.

Second, there are lower, middle and higher Himalayas where higher are always experiencing a below 0°C temperature no matter when you go ,the middle is much more lush and has alpine forests with temperature around 13°C to 2°C during summers and -25°C to -12°C during the winter and then there is the lower Himalayas where you see summers that are pleasantly warm like around 19°C on peak and winters around -8°C on an average, lush valleys too.

That was pretty crazy alright, great video! Four years ago I was hanging out in Manali waiting for the pass to open so I could do the bus journey to Leh. But the pass wasn't opening up. This was in April so there was still a lot of snow. Finally someone told me about the pass over the mountains from Kashmir, which was a shorter pass and would open up earlier. So I went by bus over there, but that pass still wasn't open. I had to wait in Kashmir for a week and finally the pass was open and I got over it and made it to Leh. Even after staying 10 days in Leh the pass to Manali still hadn't opened up, so I ended up taking a flight back to Delhi. It was still an awesome adventure though.

One of the best India bike trip videos i’ve seen and I’ve watched a bunch!!! Looks like it was the experience of a lifetime. I wonder if anything else you’ve done even comes close in comparison. I’ve only done Vagamon bike trip in Kerala, but that was the experience of a lifetime for me and I’ve been dying to get back to India ever since. Been there 3 times all to different locations, but now planning the all India bike trip with some Indian friends and will hit the Himalayas for sure. Thanks for sharing your experience. I've downloaded this video since 2019 even though I spent over a year in ladakh coz of my job...all those crazy adventures and solo riding.. especially when I got stuck alone on a September night in snowstorm...had to take shelter in an abandoned ruin and had to check on my bike every hour in pitch dark...even so ..this video encourage me to feel alive once again...
