THE BANANA IS TWO TONE! Will Matt's Off Road Recovery Like The New Paint?!

  • We start to reassemble Matt's Off-Road Recovery "the Banana" after painting the inside and roll cage last week. We put the new roof skin on, and have 60 seconds to adhere the foam before it expands too far. After gluing and foaming, I get to use my Pro Spot to weld the roof in place. We get the doors in the paint booth, and finally start to get color on the outside of the Banana.

This is the first video I have watched on this channel. Wonderful, fun video. Love to see the evolution of car paint. Robby was born when I was near 40. Until that time, in the "Rust Belt" (those states where winter requires salted roads for three months), every car body would rust away in five years. The major cause was pinhole paint chips caused by pea-sized stones, which are everywhere. They would chip the paint down to the metal, and rust would grow from there, such that every five year old car was called a "rust bucket". Now they put on the "clear coat" which cures to a incredibly hard plastic that utterly prevents the chips. It is still a marvel to me to see 10-year-old cars with no body rust.

Keep the quality coming... you're on your way to the first 100K ! Nice video - it really lays out all the work involved and the care taken when doing this kind of work. Matt chose wisely when coming to you for the Banana redo.

Robbie you regurgitate all that tech like your reading it from a manual, but we know it's your passion and is all jammed in your head at the ready. Nice balance of tech and action in the video, entertaining and instructional!

Thanks for taking the time to explain why and how you're doing everything. The tip about disconnecting the batteries when welding was especially helpful. Keep up the great videos.

About 2 yrs ago I saw a Matt's off Road Recovery video randomly for the first time. Flash forward to today. After subscribing to Fab rats and now Robby channels is crazy how this little UA-cam universe grew! It's amazing to be able to see so many aspects of this community, the ins and outs, the work, the personalities. One of the great things the internet can do. Cheers guys! Amazing work

Same for me Gabe. This is an awesome 3 way channel relationship! Remember the crummy job the Las Vegas undercoating shop did? They probably lost a great opportunity to grow. By comparison, Matt's, Robby's and Paul's popularity is soaring because of great work and positive vibes.

Genuinely enjoy following along. Never had much interest in body work, but you're excellent at explaining what you're doing, why you do it & what your using & technique.... I think the Matt's viewers were following along because we're curious about the banana, but now we're getting an education as to how much work really goes into a quality repair. your personality & professionalism is really shining through.. you're young, but obviously very skilled & it shows. You've got a beautiful shop with all the best equipment available... I sincerely hope that taking us along on the big banana project not only gets you more subscribers to your channel... but I hope this brings your shop alot more business... if more people saw the level of knowledge, skill & dedication to doing it right... I know if I ever needed body shop work.. I'd have mine towed there. ( I'm thousands of miles away, but the point is you inspire confidence in quality & capability & skill. I hope this series brings you more success!

I love how well you explain what you're doing. You're a master at this. It's fun to see Dinner's personality coming thru. Also really, really appreciate the clean language. You really create such positive vibes. By comparison, the other channels that feed on contention and negative interaction are the pits. Keep up the energy. I am so glad I found you as a result of the work you're doing with Matt. The true master of an art teaches others. My next vehicle is coming to you!

This is so cool to watch the teamwork. Fab Rats currently has Ed's litte LJ, Robby has Matt's Jeep, Ed riding on recoveries with Matt, all we need now is Matt working on one of Fab Rats' offraoders and the circle just might be complete.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Love your clear explanations of what you're doing. More information than what I need on the paint equipment, but better too much than too little - those who can use the information appreciate it, the rest of us just let it sail right on by. I personally find all your body-working techniques and explanations just fascinating as all get-out. Thank you so much for going to the trouble and taking the time to explain all you do. Keep up the great work!

Your videos on the Banana repair are fantastic 😎 👍 It shows how much man power goes into repairing a vehicle. I’ve worked in a shop for 8 years and can say they most people have no patience when it comes to repairing a vehicle.
